    In this video I share with you the DIY fitting of a piece of paint protection film on my Mk7 Golf GTI Clubsport S, something I have never attempted before. Can I get this right and move onto bigger sections potentially saving £1000s or will it make me realise the big bucks installers charge is money well spent?

    Also baby shampoo is better than washing up liquid as it is ph neutral

    Did this in the pushchair days. Tips: Fastglass as the lube and a felt squeegee. Hair drier helps and nitrile gloves can touch the sticky side without finger prints- enough to pick dust/sand out. Beware the 2nd bend- if the bumber has several swage lines, stick between the 1st and 2nd then bend up and down from there the material can’t cope with two bends from the top flat surface and leaves pigs ears.

    I did the bonnet on my Tesla myself, not with a kit - just with a roll of PPF i bought. The film itself isn't hard to work with if you have patience, but you won't get professional level edges without a lot of practice (which probably doesn't matter to most DIYers). Dust and grit are the biggest problem. A complete nightmare in fact. So if you want to do this you really want to have a large, clean, draught-free garage.

    Warm the material gently at the mid-point to adjust the profile 👍

    I had James at Ti22 in Chepstow PPF my RS3, he did a cracking job with the front bumper and a year later it looks great. Well done for having a go.

    A strip of rubber for less than £10 looks much better IMO and offers better protection - it even hides any scratches that might already be there.

    For the price of PPF, you might as well get it resprayed if it gets damaged.

      No that's not right, my Leon was done from new by a very good team, it has virtually no marks and still looks brand new after 92k. My previous Leon was the same colour and after 80 k the front bumper,.bonnet, mirrors, a pillars and roof all.looked.like they had been blasted by a shot gun. The ppf provider guaranteed the film for as long as i owned it; have had the car 9 years now, and none of it has unstuck. Only works on new cars really,.the best 500 quid I ever spent. I am in car insurance, and the insurance company wants to know because in the event damage, they will still repair the car, but won't necessarily pay for the ppf to be redone.

    Hi Andrew. I’ve fitted the full front end to my MK7 R from Aliath. The bumper was the most difficult section but with patience and lots of the slip spray it fits really well. Really quite straightforward. And I’ve done my Touareg as well. Get the rest done 👍

    I tried it on my motorbike, I managed but wasn't great. I had my new Leon Cupra protected at the front end in 2015, it cost 500 quid, however after 92k there I'd hardly a.mark on the front bumper, wing, 1/3 of bonnet and mirrors. The ppf 'saved' one of the headlights,.when a big stone tore through it,.a couple years later I had to change one of the headlights when it failed, it cost me over 600 quid plus fitting! All in all, I think I would do it again. One thing though, u can't Ppf a panel that has had pint chips touched up, as when moving the Ppf around, it drags the paint from the chip and looks a right mess! This is why I had my new Leon delivered to the ppf guys in.manchester!! And yes, I defo do it again.

    Do you ever feel a bit disappointed with the Clubsport S not having the 7.5 upgrades? They are so great

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Genuinely I don’t, I really couldn’t care less about VW’s virtual cockpit and the bi-xenon head lights are fine. The CS/CSS bumper are closer to 7.5 than 7 and CSS has the best seats. TBH if you buy it for anything other than how it drives on the road fully lit, you’ll be disappointed as it doesn’t even have some of the things a normal 7 GTI has got, let alone 7.5

      I’m afraid this isn’t correct. I work in motor claims for a large insurance company. They are legally obliged to put you back into the position you were in before the accident no more and no less.

      Providing full declaration of course of any changes from factory spec, I’m assuming ? Some insurance companies differ from one and other. I’ve never applied it to any car, but other who have, have had insurance payouts refused.
      Legal waivers in T&C’s apply to all insurance cover.

    Good video thank you. My Golf mk8 really chips on the bonnet. Not too concerned at the moment as have the smart cover which I purchased with the car so they take care of that every now and then. I'd be hopeless at attempting this myself. Would you ever consider doing this for a fee? I'd trust you.
