    Hey Jim, I saw a robot spray a release agent into a plastic injection mold that looked "Pam" cooking oil. Don't know what they used in the 80's but maybe baked into the part.
    Never heard of the soap idea, but that was a bunch of "Fish-eye" problems, but like you said the number of cleaners, shine products is endless & I bet most have a silicone component. I have never tried a "Fisheye" additive before as I felt this was a cover for sloppy cleaning.
    Also, TH-cam changed things requiring a viewer to click the bell twice to get a Black Bell for All. A white bell is personalized where black is "All". I had to check in and surprised to find one 5 days, 3 weeks & a couple at 4 weeks.
    Try it yourself, but I am on iPhone 6S and could be different on computer or laptop. Instead of 5.43k you should be 543k subs!
    Thanks! Squeeze the good out of the holidays and Happy new 2013! 😮sounds strange.

      Didn’t know about the bell think. I will have to check it out. Seems that almost any older dash or dash part I have tried to paint that was lacquer…had fish eye problems. Might be that they all lived through the glory days of armorall. Thanks for watching and commenting Dean and stay warm!

    Just rebuilt my '74 C10 tilt column. Lots of fun! Why not buy an ididit or something though? Bearings, parts, etc...for mine was $100 and I could have bought a new one for not much more. But, I wanted to keep it original. 40 years ago I kept getting fish eyes in a paint job. Someone told me to mix laundry detergent in warm water and wash it down. I didn't have another one after that.

      I guess I’m just trying to find somewhere to not spend more money. Stop the bleeding ya know. I’d like to have a tilt but maybe down the road. Just trying to get by for now. Thanks for watching!

      If you degrease and use a steamer on plastic it pulls a lot of the old cleaners out works good

    Ive tried to paint my column as well...twice, and I still have areas where the paint refuses to bond. Has anyone figured out what the heck causes this? Sanding and chemical prep don't do a thing.

    • @StoutCustom
      @StoutCustom  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think what ever grease they used is silicon based and it’s imbedded in the paint. Probably the only way to not have issues would be to completely disassemble, degrease, media blast, and start from bare pieces. I think the plastic might still have issues though. I wouldn’t want to go to that extreme so I think you have to paint it into submission, lol. It’s a pain for sure.

    Nice. Could you show how you shortened the column? I’m interested in doing this.

    • @StoutCustom
      @StoutCustom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the column itself is not shortened. Just the mounting of it will shorten the distance from steering wheel to dash. Maybe a poor choice of words on my part but just trying to get more room between the seat and steering wheel. The intermediate shaft will have to be shortened though. I’m still in the trial and error part of this so I’m yet to know if it will work out in the end. 😳

      @@StoutCustom look up the jeep steering shaft upgrade. You use a jeep xj collapsible steering shaft to get rid of the rag joint. When you do the jeep shaft you already have to heat it up and shorten it a bit. Might be an easy way to go. Tightens your steering up a bunch too.
