    That existing hole was put in to release gases produced from the batteries inside the compartment...you will have add another one! I see that this video is 11 months old, did you experience any major issues when you used the battery compartment ventilation hole for the charging inlet port?

    Electrolysis happens when an electrical current passes through water. That in turn causes a chemical reaction. That’s the simple, bare bones version. In terms of boating, the electrolytic reaction occurs between two metals. The electrical current strips away one metal and deposits it on another. Remember, it happens between two dissimilar metals. Metals work at different voltages. If you have an aluminum boat but your prop is made of zinc, you are setting up a way for electrolysis to occur. Zinc has a higher electrolysis voltage than the aluminum boat hull. When a current flows through the water around your boat, it will strip away some electrons. It takes from the zinc and deposit them on the bare aluminum, which attracts the current. Electrolysis causes corrosion. Over time, it will damage the metal parts of your boat and cause them to break down. In particularly bad cases, this could destroy an entire prop and shaft in a matter of a couple of weeks. - boatsafe.com/electrolysis-eat-prop/

    You could have used a ''Step Drill Bit'' to quickly enlarge that existing hole!

    Will Electrolysis Affect a Non Aluminum Boat?
    If you have a fiberglass hull or even an inflatable pontoon boat, electrolysis could still be a risk. Metal components in the water will still be susceptible. If you have any metal on your boat that is immersed in water, there is always a chance. This also becomes a risk when you are in dock. An electrolytic reaction can occur between your boat and a neighboring boat.

    The best way to widen that hole if you have access to the back of it would be to drill two small holes on each side inside of the outline of the fitting in the existing hole. Then get a small square of wood and hold it on the insid. Run two wood screws in the wood. Mark the center and use a carbide tooth holesaw! Been there, done that.

    Properly ventilating gases produced by the charge and discharge of the batteries in a closed compartment is paramount! | If you plan to moor your boat at a dock for any length of time while plugged into an electrical outlet YOU WILL NEED TO INSTALL sacrificial metal (zinc blocks) on your outdrives to control electrolysis! You need to research ''electrolysis'' and how it affects boats!

      Should be noted that it’s not as much of an issue in freshwater. It can happen, yes. But it’s a huge issue with saltwater and will speed it up. But when using a boat strictly in freshwater it will take a long time for anything to occur.
      Yamaha inboard jet engines should already have anodes installed at the factory. There are no outdrives. It’s all jet drive with impellers. I know some boats have them on their drive shafts, like larger fishing boats. But that won’t work on a boat like this as anything put on the impeller shaft will cause major cavitation.

      @@wKKnDwarriors same here. Maybe when my ski gets old I’ll try to go to oceanside. I want to do Long Beach to Catalina once. But I have a steel trailer, since they fill up with water when you launch there is no way to get it all clean. So I don’t plan on even doing salt unless I can get a different trailer. And like you guys, I never leave it in the water unless it’s just a night or something. It’s always in and out.
