  • With Dan's head and block back from the machine shop, James sets about putting it back together. The pistons are checked for clearance, each bearing is carefully measured, and everything is reassembled. MaxPeedingRods forged connecting rods replace the originals, and a prototype set of billet oil pump gears are installed for testing.

    Great video! I have a question about fitting that oil pump to the 1.6. As far as I know the 1.6 with a big nose crank used a paper gasket for the factory oil pump but these boundary pumps are like the 1.8 pumps which have have grooves and require RTV and a rubber o-ring to seal them to the block. Did you install this pump onto the 1.6 with RTV and an o-ring? Would really like to know as I'm about to start putting my engine back together. Thanks!

    There should be some clarification about that head. In North America the mark 2 is only a 1.8L. And that headache sitting on a 1.6L

    I'm installing a new oil pump now on 1.6 '93 miata engine. I bought the Melling brand pump, which is the higher cost one than the imports. But I noticed in the bypass valve housing there's no seat, just the spring being held back with the cotter key. The seat is so thin, I can't see it affecting the oil pressure. Is the seat needed? If so I can transplant the one out of my old pump into it. Also, the plug that comes with the pump to close the hole for cars needing a dipstick there, is it installed from the inside or the outside?

    In the next one can you go over the pros and cons of the head? I'm building an engine here and need to decide between the MK1 head I know is good and a MK2 head that came with the donor engine.

    • @BOFIRacingTV
      @BOFIRacingTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We certainly will. The mk2 1.6 has bigger cams, more compression and solid lifters which are all useful.

  • @montym1699

    Okay, I've been looking literally EVERYWHERE for some validation on that one snippet, but do the NB 1.6 heads actually have better port angles? I'm incredibly curious about this because they supposedly have the same casting numbers and I even asked around and nobody can seem to verify this.

    I have a 1.6 FI that is ready for a refresh and don’t fancy buying another turbo manifold.
