And that's why we watch him, pretty much does any phone he can get his hands on from flagship to budget phone. Watching Tech Spurt remind me of what watching MKBHD was 10 years ago back when he actually review budget phones like Motorola Moto G.
I'm using this phone right now and it is really good! It's definitely worth buying 💗 For using social media, watching videos and photos it's more than enough 👍
I've had this phone for a few months, the camera isn't amazing but more than good enough for everyday photos and the phone itself is fast and as good as any budget/midrange phone 👍🏻
I actually had the chance to test this phone myself a couple of months back (no not the pink one :D), and you know what? It really surprised me. I was concerned by the screen itself as being "only" 720p felt like one of the better 720p panels I've used and even appeared better than a cheap 1080p panel (if that made sense.). Even the chipset (probably because of the screen it was powering, was able to punch above its weight class). It will get a lot of detractors for some of the specs (and rightly so), but it's definitely a capable device.
You are right about the chipset. I'm using a Nokia X20 for 2 years now, with the same Snapdragon 480 5G, and it's still smooth running Android 13 (came with Android 11). That's because the 480 is the top of its line, and even surpassed the 720 on several benchmarks.
I like Nokia's take on self fix/change battery, low carbon footprint and recycled materials. This phone is definitely on the maybe list next to the x30
I really appretiate the fact you mention eveything about the device in your videos, it is very detailed explaination I have come across so far. Keep up the good work & you rock! 😍😍
The big advantage of the Nokia G42 and also of the Nokia G21,G22 and G11 is the combination of a large battery and a slow processor which allows them to be used for up to 3 days without recharging. The big disadvantage of those 4 phones is the slow processor. Running the game Blades is a good check that you have a modern mid to upper range processor. Blades does not work on my son's Nokia G10 and I doubt if it would work with this phone. An important benchmark that I think that you should adopt is to find out whether the cheap phones that you test can run blades or not.
@@conor-_C Blades is an online game based upon Skyrim. I like Skyrim and so I like to play Blades on the move. I have found that it only worked on my latest phones and so it seems to be a good test of phone graphics.

Mine is a week old. The charger came with it, but battery is poor: in average it lasts just a day even on battery saver. No games, just some youtube videos and messaging for an hour or so.
Wow what an insightful comment once again. The box is made from recycled materials and the insides doesnt contain any plastic. Box is made from Kraft materials and so they are not colored in any way. ”💀”
Now that you mention about this having ambient display feature, I had to double check the entire video on why the display has a very deep black level and appears too bright that the camera can't capture the display color properly unlike most HMD phones you've reviewed in the past. Double checking at 8:10, the display exhibit OLED characteristic where the black appears black rather than gray. I'm confused whether HMD is using an OLED panel or LCD IPS. That level of black is not attainable in IPS and I'm sure 720p OLED panel doesn' exist, let alone this decent. HMD tends to avoid panel with PWM flicker if they have to use OLED and I wonder if this is a 1080p OLED panel firmware-locked to 720p since it doesn't appear as grainy i.e. higher pixel density than regular 720p panel
720p OLED displays don't exist? What are you talking about? Have your heard of Mi A3? That came about almost 3-4 years ago. There are other models as well.
I used Nokia 5.3 since 3 years ago and still using it. Never get problem 😂 even the charger and earphones still useful not broken yet. I really interesting with Nokia G42 but my phone still good. 😂 😂
I'm currently using the Nokia 6.1 it's the 5th year now, it's giving battery problems can say that I'm disappointed for it has served for many years, I'm looking to buy the G42 before this one gives in.
I have a Nokia 3 and it's still good, but it didn't hold so well after a fall. It's flexed and I feel the battery is a bit bloated, but even with spare use it's good. I didn't even know it had LDAC, since I bought a Zenfone 9 for that regard. Can't say it's better than the ZF9, but having LDAC on a not so expensive phone is mooore than enough.
my wifes got the G22 ... very few updates .. still on V12 of Andriod.. updates are few and far between ... so rather than update their phones like they used to , they brought out a new phone ... :(
G22 is meant to be released much earlier but got pushed due to last minute Quick Fix collaboration. However I do agree that they should update G22 as soon as possible to A13 since G21 and the rest already got A13
HMD Global is now only focusing on marketing, updating phones is not any major priority anymore. They have released so many cheap C-series models lately that it will be a mess to them. Did you know that their most expensive phone ever Nokia 9 never got Android 12 (or 11 not sure which it was) as promised? It was a huge scandal. Finally HMD Global came out and told the press that they couldn't make it. Their tiny tech staff failed, they just didn't have competence enough to make it.
