Nokia is a famous company. They are famous for their durable build quality. I bought Nokia 6.1 in 2018, which I still have, even its charger is absolutely fine. really nokia 6.1a strong phone Nokia should make a comeback like in 2018. That year the company had launched phones like Nokia 6.1Nokia 7Plus, Nokia 8, Nokia 5 with excellent build quality.
Nokia’s build quality was absolutely amazing, there have been concerns since HMD have taken over but I believe they are trying to push the repairability aspect more now…which is good in itself but ultimately implies that the phone will/may eventually need repairing, but I understand that also, giving the power to the consumer to be able to self repair is a good thing. Let’s hope Nokia does eventually go back to their original build quality in the future 🤞
Thanks for a nice review! I just bought this phone to my son. He already had a Nokia android phone, and he did not want to change the pure android os to anything else. So I was glad to upgrade it to this phone. It is important that G 42 has a long battery life. And I'm also happy that I can fix the screen after he breaks it (which is likely). :-) Our family's other phones are currently OnePlus phones, but maybe I could move back to the Nokia world completely again...
Thank you for your kind words and feedback! I'm glad to hear that you found the review helpful. The Nokia G42 is indeed a great choice, especially with its long battery life and the added benefit of being able to fix the screen easily. It's wonderful that you were able to upgrade your son's phone while still keeping the pure Android OS he prefers. If you decide to move back to the Nokia world completely, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or need further assistance!
Hi @zerakyuusama3754! Thank you for your feedback and for watching my video. I apologise for not covering the Audio Boost Mode in my review. There’s always so much to cover and I overlook certain things sometimes! Will definitely be more attentive in future 👍
This can be done in multiple ways, you can use your google account on your Samsung and ensure a backup is created and then log on this account on your new phone. You can also use google drive or apps such as ‘Send Anywhere’.
Totally agree. Motorola were mentioned as offering more for the money. This is true, but they are really poor in providing OS and security updates. Nokia apparently are much better.
Hi, from the phones user guide it states “Put a nano-SIM card in slot 1 and either a second SIM or a memory card in slot 2 with the contact areas face down”…so it seems you can have only 1 sim and 1 SD card at one time. Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed 👍
That is a good point, I guess the 2 years OS updates and 3 years security updates might suffice for the masses? SoC compatibility may become an issue any further than that?

I've owned this phone now for several months and have unfortunately dropped it and it's broke. I've come to realise that the price of the parts is such that you may aswell just buy a new phone every time. The fixing thing has to be economical
Hi, ah that’s a shame! Yes ideally the parts should be cheap which would make it worthwhile repairing the phone yourself, I believe overtime the prices will come down but for now that does not seem good
Good phone but Nokia needs to make these mid range phones with dual speakers, dual sim, expandable memory and minimum of 6 gb ram as a minimum standard. Almost there.
i think its time for me to upgrade from my nokia 8.1 im using this one for 4 yrs. thinking of buying this g42. i dont care if it is a punch hole or not
LOVELY 👌👌👌😍 Since 1 year waiting for Nokia Phones in India, but only X30 launched. Nokia/HMD has arrogant & lethargic towards Indians. Once India had highest Users of Nokia. So, forced to buy Samsung S20FE, but battery life very very bad even for a 15 days old phone.
Hello sir Nokia company should do something different which other company is not able to do like 5G phone in 8,999 which no company is giving battery 5000 and charger 33 watt RAM 6/128 processor 695 and fullHD+ display main camera 64MP and selfie camera 32MP If yes then till the end of 2023 no one can stop you from coming on number 1.
Hello, that is a good proposition, but for this price I do not think it would be possible. “Budget” phones have to cut corners to save costs and each manufacturer will do so in order to maximise profits
Motorola g power 5g...6gb ram...256 gb storage Nokia g42 5g. 6gb ram....128gb storage Nokia xr21 5g... rugged phone...6gb ram....128gb storage Good phones to have..no 🧢..
Hi, yes the SoC is ‘old’ now and overtime it may degrade in performance slightly, but this depends on a matter of factors such as high temperatures, software, device condition etc. I guess with every SoC this is the case.
Yes it's sad and faraway in India no one would consider buying a SD 480+ phone in 2023. But a Finnish startup company here in Espoo named HMD Global did it again. Indian tech sites are already very disappointed if they see a SD 695 on a new phone and many there consider even a quite capable SD 7 Gen 1 underpowered now in Summer of '23. NOKIA should in my opinion consider to sell its name to some Indian or Chinese company instead in 2026 when their license to use it will expire with HMD Global (it was sold to them for 10 years in 2016).
Todays phones are just garbage. bought galaxy a34 its causing my eyes to swallen and burn.. did some research and found out its common problem and amoleds and oleds.. thanks nokia for making usable phones you just had to make it priced around 15k and give a good cam and display.
Very lazy work by HMD. This is just a rewamped G22 with all the same specs except for a minor chip upgrade with SD 480+. SD 480+ is a bad choice by HMD Global who isn't the real NOKIA at all, 480+ can't even shoot video in 4K. It should have been at least SD 778g. Screen is very poor with dull muted colours and it's only a 720p screen. Mono speaker also and it's low quality. And still a teardrop notch in 2023? And a huge chin and quite big bezels too. Who wants to use this kind of phone still in 2026? Here in Finland tech sites don't want to test G42 and I haven't seen anyone testing it so far anywhere in the world, seems that no one is interested in this G42. HMD Global bought the license to use NOKIA brand name in 2016 for android phones they started to make and here in Finland 🇫🇮 we are now wondering what will happen when that lisence will expire in 2026. NOKIA corp sold the license to use the name to HMD Global for 10 years and we'll see if they will not renew it anymore? They should sell it to India instead or China.
Hey, @petrisalonen4893. It's disappointing when a device doesn't meet expectations, especially when compared to previous models. Many manufacturers do make decisions to balance features and costs, which can result in compromises. It's worth considering that different users have varying needs, and while some aspects might not be up to par, the device could still offer value for certain use cases and they are looking to push the ‘repairability’ aspect it seems. Let's see how Nokia/HMD responds to feedback and evolves their offerings in the future. But yes for the price they could have offered better specs, but in todays sea of budget and mid range phones the lines between specs is becoming blurred and most manufacturers will stick to the ‘cheaper’ specs and then the phone gets lost in the sea of phones

@@typicaltechlad Today the G42 has fallen in price by around one-third. Good news. However I read that HMD will be discontinuing the Nokia brand.
Thanks for a review, im gonna get this phone for my birthday (upgrading from an iphone SE 2020), and it looks really nice
Hey, thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed. Sounds good! Hope you enjoy your new phone and happy birthday 🥳
Hey hey me too jus upgraded to this phone from SE 2020.
I have bought two for my company. No problems so far. Upgrade to Android 14 done. Droped several times. No problem.
Next you can show how you reset it? G22 not allow do reset.
Awesome page for reviews. Really helpful. Thankyou
Thank you for the kind words, appreciate it a lot. Glad you found it helpful ☺️
You forgot to review that Audio Boost Mode! i was waiting to see if there is any difference between the normal mode and audio boost mode.

Amazing phone. Nokia has solid software and hardware due to their high standards.. How much is it and is it also available online?
100% agree. The phone costs £199, link to it is in the description
@@typicaltechlad wow ! thank you very much for the guidance
@cosmickate4947it is but keep in mind that might be the 4gb rather than 6gb version, worth checking

Hi, thanks for the comment but I do not fully understand what you are asking?
謝謝:我是問题。为什麼有同一個形号.有二種包裝。是不是產地問題?我現在用的是X30,因是單卡,沒有相片卡、好不方便。敬上。
Hi, is it true that there are some laggy touch response issue with the display. That's according to some reviews that I have read on gsmarena.
Hi, on my unit I did not notice this, could be certain devices are affected by this?
Is it possible to transfer photos data etc from a samsung to this?
This can be done in multiple ways, you can use your google account on your Samsung and ensure a backup is created and then log on this account on your new phone. You can also use google drive or apps such as ‘Send Anywhere’.
Dont forget to include support and updates for the phones your reviewing..
Thanks, noted 👍

Can you take screenshots ?
Yes, this is done by simultaneously pressing the power button and volume down button
Can u fit two sims and a sad card at once on this phone. Also great review

What is the point of a long life repairable phone without at least 3+ update cycles????
That is a good point, I guess the 2 years OS updates and 3 years security updates might suffice for the masses? SoC compatibility may become an issue any further than that?

does this phone has NFC or no?
Europe version has NFC, other regions I am not sure
I hope they release a more premium phone with better materials and looks and same build quality.
