I find it weird people say they won’t give him up during a evil play through. You’re technically stealing a dog from its rightful owner. You could say it’s for righteous reasons, but a evil character would just think more on “how dare you try to take what is now mine!”.
I mean, if we accept that animals can talk, then the concept of "owning" animals suddenly becomes a huge grey area, potentially even an actually evil thing to do. Scratch has clearly transferred his loyalty and therefore belongs to/with the player as a member of the found family. @@Amferam

My favorite part is how Astarion acts all uncaring but we all know he let both Scratch and the Owl Bear Cub sleep in his tent. His reaction to Scratch's death really confirms how attached he was.

I never considered goving Scratch away, even on my evil playthrough. That character said "well if i keep the dog, i get to fuck with the post office, cause now they have less 'staff' and need to replace the dog Im keeping. Plus i get a free dog." You have to be a truely sadistic fuck to give Scratch away and rob the entire party of this good boy.
This is absolutely heartbreaking, thank you for doing this and making this video so that the rest of us don't have to. I hope afterwards you reloaded your previous save and gave Scratch lots of pets. Poor boy! I feel bad for all those poor dogs, and the poor guy that handles them he's so nice but he gets fired if you fail a Persuasion (or was it Intimidation?) check to make that abusive bitch leave.

imagine if the NPC's were active in camp during your playthrough, like the ones no in the party going around chatting, or playing with scratch.. More there were more red dead in bg3 I would not mind in the slightest

My Durge just goes agro, and intimidates the woman into questioning every life choice she ever made, especially the one where she lied about 'just checking him '. i was a little worried that Halsin would disapprove the aggression, but nope, 100% approved whatever it took to bring Scratch home & put that nice guy in charge.
When I saw a video of a tombstone were scratch died it broke my heart out of all the characters in bg3 he's the one that means the most I would certainly never betray him and give him back
I think I accidentally gave Scratch away when I wandered into the kennel area with Scratch. There was a green light around Scratch’s paws and he disappeared. He wasn’t in the kennel or at the camp and I couldn’t summon him via ball. Needless to say, I promptly reloaded a previous save and kept Scratch away from the kennels.

1) if you ignore the goblin/grove conflict and go straight to act 2, companions won’t leave because it doesn’t count as you massacring the tieflings 2) there’s an exploit that requires knocking out Minthara when she’s temporarily hostile and then using Polymorph + Dominate Beast + Improvised Weapon to carry her all the way to Moonrise Towers in sheep form 3) mods
In the modern version of the game you can get Minthara even if you save the grove from her. Just knock her out with nonlethal damage and she can be rescued at Moonrise prison where she is being punished for that. She doesn't hold a grudge and can join your party if you invite her.
You can also get Wyll without horns and still get Karlach, it’s a bit of a pain to do, but it’s possible. Though I think I prefer him with horns, he looks like less of a wimp 😂
You can avoid losing Wyll and Karlach glitchlessly by recruiting Minthara and then heading to the underdark/mountain pass and on to Act 2 without attacking the druid grove (the goblins destroy it offscreen). You can also use a series of unintended mechanics involving having a mind-controlled teleporting sheep stand trial for incompetence to save the grove while recruiting Minthara. It appears they used the first technique.
If you go to the grove first and recruit Wyll, then go to the goblin camp and promise Minthara you'll help her but instead of going back to the grove you immediately go to Act 2 you can keep Wyll and recruit Minthara. You just have to make sure you never go back to the grove after speaking to Minthara at the goblin camp.
Just ignore the conflict between the goblins and the Grove, do every mission except kill the goblin leaders and you'll be fine, as long as you don't Kill the goblin leaders you can have Wyll, Karlach and Minthara without killing the Grove. The only downside is the teiflings will die so if you want Karlach to live till the end of the game upgrade her heart before progressing to the next region.
The two other responses are definitely ways of doing it, but there's also a way where you clear out the goblin camp, polymorph her into a sheep when you fight her, knock the sheep out, put the sheep in a box, and then take the box with you. Edit: that may not be entirely accurate, if you would like to do the sheep route please look up a video.
