    A cracking pair of classic, German made fliegers, that have the right name on the dial and a good price. So long as you don't hit the options list, that is! It is a shame that they didn't make more of the 42mm versions so as to offer that option, but hey, that is what a limited edition means, I guess. Cheers, Jody

    It’s a bit disappointing that they couldn’t stretch to a Miyota 9 series at this price point. They really are a step up from the 8 series and the ultra common NH3x movements.

      I believe MIYOTA 9000series is a high beat movement while NH35 is not. At 400 dollars, I do want MIYOTA9000 series altho it would be really hard to find any. I once found MIYOTA 9000series watch in Alixpress for 120 dollars, now thats bargain.

    I bought a black 42mm Aachen and really liked it. So much so that I bought a blue dialed one as well, but after a while, I realised I never wore the black one. Sure, the purists won't like the blue-dialed Aachen, but it's a gorgeous watch and I'm not a wannabe Luftwaffe pilot, so I just appreciate the legibility and dial finish. I like the look of these, but not enough to spend extra money on them, to be honest.

I've got my Laco Hannover (42mm, no logo, B-uhr typ B, sapphire glass, ETA2824 automatic, brown and black leather straps, nice leather case) for 415 Eur. Bur right about after that, they have changed the whole lineup and the corresponding model from current lineup is Sellita SW-200 based Paderborn for 980 Eur. This is more than twice I have paid, minus second strap (adds another 60 Eur). I'm glad I have my Hannover. Don't understand their artificially faux-aged "erbstuck" models.

    Ghost position, no hacking?? And the price! It's crazy. Just because it is German? Not assembled in Asia by any chance? And the mechanism is also non-German (Japanese). Maybe the high price is justified by the company's history, but in Poland German aeroplanes still have bad associations (because of history, war). The watch doesn't look bad, but the glass caseback with a very ordinary movement looks annoying, especially in the limited edition. For 100 USD I bought a much better Pilot B from the Chinese company Escapement Time. 1/4 the price and the workmanship is better (sapphire, NH 35, nice caseback).
    As usual a very good video, I look forward to the next ones. Regards :). .

    The made in Germany is somewhat misleading though, it is assembled in Germany but I doubt a lot there is coming from Germany.
    So basically you are paying for the brand printed on the dial and a misleading "made in Germany" which only certify that 45% of the full value of the product is spent in Germany.

    • @basilpeewit3350

      Designed in Germany (Laco is one of the original Flieger watch brands), surely the most costly part of the production process; German leather strap; assembled in Germany and marketed from there; movement regulated (and rotor engraved?) in Germany. Not sure about those 45%.....

    Very timely review as I was looking at this watch. A couple of things it's brought up for me:
    1. Are the dials on the Type A vs Type B different shades of "Oliv"? Maybe something to do with the AR coating on the B and the lighting/camera, but in this video the A looks significantly darker in several shots (more like Laco's press photos).
    2. Ghost date! Very confused by this as I've seen a review of a Aachen Taupe with only 2 crown positions with supposedly the same movement. Maybe some differences in re-assembly once the movements get to Germany, but I can't begin to understand why it would differ on effectively the same watch.
    Regardless, thanks for adding to my conundrum, Jody!

Case finishing is bang on, the dials look the business, and the leather straps (optioned on the grey leather for the Augsburg because I didn't like this on a nato) are quality. Yeah, the movements are not fun to interact with at all, but both mine are really accurate. It's an odd one: I think you get a lot of watch for the money - but the innards are pretty lacklustre.

    Nice review of some nice watches Jody. But why is the origin of these historic watches always discussed so vaguely? German Air Force from the late 1930s? Oh, right...

    Hi there! I watch your reviews very often but never seen any "Curren" watch yet (very cheap with hardlex and chronograph, well made, even the bracelets) maybe it is time to test one? I warn you, they can become addictive!

    Laco makes a great watch. I agree at this price Laco makes the best flieger. The best flieger at any price is the Stowa flieger classic in my humble opinion

    Spinning rotor and ghost date don't bother me in the slightest. A Flieger isn't at the top of my list but I really like the look of this one.
    Great review as always Jody.
    My only moan would be a lack of deployant clasp. Pin & buckle system ruins the leather in double quick time and you'll never find an aftermarket deployant clasp that matches that fantastic distressed case

    Great vid, the Aachan is on my list, got the escapement time, love it but would love to be able to say it's the original company. By the same token as an actual flieger maker they have the "right" to mess with the recipie, their still more "authentic" than a million slavish re-creations from anyone else..I do think 42's the number tho....

    Its a nice looking flieger, but overpriced, same as the basic Laco Aachen. If Im bying something Made in Japan, then Im ok with miyota movt. If Im bying something that says Made in Germany, Im paying for that premium, same as Swiss Made, so Im expecting every part to be german. What Laco is doing with these fliegers is just milking the money, using their historically famous name. If I wanted a miyota movt, I would buy a Orient Pilot or something similar and be happy with it. Its nice, but not worth 440e just because of Laco branding and the fake bronze finish.

    • @marksaxby607
      @marksaxby607 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Each to their own, but a watch is more than its movement and you can always pay the premium for a more Germanic (but still Swiss) movement (Does anyone make a 100% German flieger for a reasonable price?) Sure the Aachen/Augsberg is a compromise, but it's not as though it's your only Laco option and the price reflects the compromise - One I'm happy with, personally. A Japanese Flieger? I'm afraid my immediate connection there isn't one of longevity! :D

    • @miljanbarjaktarovic7838
      @miljanbarjaktarovic7838 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marksaxby607 I agree with you, but up to a certain point. Im a watch purist (not a snob) maybe, but still think this is overpriced...this should be a 299e watch at best. Something similar happened with Mercedes. They put Renault engines in their cars, but sell it at premium price. Its just not the same. At this price point, I would add 50e more and buy a Dekla, for example. Cheers!

    • @aremel42
      @aremel42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I own the Laco Paderborn (Type B 42mm auto) and couldn't be happier. I think I'd be wary of a 45mm. I have an 8" wrist and can comfortably wear up to 46mm in most cases; but the ruler- straight lugs on Laco Originals _really_ add to their percieved size. With zero downturn, a 45mm Laco would sit like a dinner plate on my 8" wrist. May be worth a test fit, if you can make it happen.

    I owned a 42mm Augsburg in this style with the olive dial, but I sold it. I thought it was a better colour than the earlier limited editions, like the sand coloured one. In some ways, it felt more like a field watch, which was an interesting vibe for a flieger. But, I dunno, after living with it for awhile, the pretend weathering just annoyed me. I'm still keen to see what Laco does with its next coloured limited edition. PS: My limited edition 42mm Augsburg hacked. So that's been in for awhile now.
