Good tip with these guns, once you have a can of foam on it, never ever take it and leave it off, if you have ran out, never tighten it up and leave it because foam will dry, leave a can on tight & a little bit of the foam at the tip, it creates a seal and will never dry in the gun, just scrape off the tip with a utility knife and it’s ready to use👍🏻

Great tip, I didn’t know about the non-stick ones either - thank you. + Something I didn’t realise was how short the shelf life is of these foams. One expired they will quickly become useless, always check the can before you buy.

I had a quick fix to do one time, pretty much just squirt a bit of foam and it's done. I didn't even bother changing into old clothes as it was so simple. I ended up with foamed hands, foamed jeans and also found it embedded into my coat weeks later. It eventually comes off skin but in fabric it seems it'll be there for eternity.

I’ve been using the Screwfix one for a year now. I never remove the can unless empty. Lock off the adjuster and spraying foam cleaner on the end. Done.

  • @Overworkt
    @Overworkt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

For anyone that has the cheaper chrome guns, just never turn the valve off - leave the foam to go hard on the end, and then just scrape or knife the end off next time you want to use it. Seems counter intuitive, but ive done it this way for years.

Tip: get a tub of acetone nail cleaner with a sponge in it. The spong has a little slit cut in it which a finger nail would normally be inserted. When you've finished using the foam gun for a few minutes, dip the tip in the foam to clean it. This stops dried particles building up, which can prevent the needle in the gun from properly sealing, leading to it getting bunged up.

I use these for skirting and architrave - absolute game-changer. To keep in place whilst drying, clamp the architrave, use weights (or something heavy) for the skirting. No nails/screws required, and easy to remove using a metal ruler down the back and sliding across.

I agree. Those guns, though pricey, are worlds apart from the nozzle cans. It’s a completely different experience. At first I thought I’d suddenly gain top level skills at applying foam but when I had to use the nozzle can one day, I realised it wasn’t me, it was the gun.

I have been using a £7 gun for a few years now. I think you might have had a bad tool.
Mine is sticky, but I use a knife to clean it every time I use it, takes a minute. I only cleaned it once after not using the gun for literally 1 year, but the only time I used the cleaner.
I will give the non-stick a try when this one packs up.

I always leave my can and gun upside down which seems to help. I leave mine for a few weeks at a time between uses and it lasts for months like that. I usually have to buy a new gun every couple of years, which is much better than keep taking cans on and off as had a few issues with that, and just forget the cans which don’t go on the gun!

It's time saving crap like expanding polyurethane foam, that has turned housing construction into the crap it is today. A fire in a room built and furnished before WW2, will take about 40 minutes to reach flashover. A modern house full of plastic, takes only 3 minutes to reach flashover.
That is three minutes from the time a fire gets big enough to start accumulating smoke at the ceiling. IF YOU WALK IN ON A FIRE THAT IS ALREADY MAKING SMOKE AT THE CEILING: CLOSE THE DOOR, DROP EVERYTHING, AND EXIT THE HOUSE IMMEDIATELY. It is too late to fight the fire.
Aside to the obvious risks to the occupants, the three minute flashover time means that most structural fires are today FAR MORE ADVANCED before the fire brigade is able to put wet stuff on the red stuff.
This means the occupants of surrounding homes are far more at risk from smoke from a nearby house fire. This is especially true in housing estates, and high density domestic structures.
People with mobility issues, or who are deep sleepers, are far more at risk from smoke inhalation than they were in the past.
No matter how much fire retardant is in the polyurethane foam, this is only effective in the very earliest stages of a fire. It simply means that this foam product is not likely to accelerate a very small fire.
After flashover, POLYURETHANE FOAM is just SOLID PETROL. Using this crap makes the structural integrity of window frames non-existent when a building is fully engulfed in fire. So it creates more danger for fire fighters.
