Here are some things you can do to protect the motors from the sand:
Take off from a large landing pad
Hand release/catch your drone so it does not have to touch the ground
Take off from an area that is damp, so the sand will not kick up into the air
Take off from a nearby street and then fly over the beach
Basic drone flight guidelines in the United States
Fly at or below 400 feet above the ground
Always fly within line-of-sight, if you can’t see it, bring it in
    Stay away from airports
Stay away from airplanes - they have the right of way in the air
    Do not fly over people
Do not fly over or close to sports events or stadiums
Do not fly near emergency situations such as car crashes or building fires
Do not fly under the influence
Be aware of controlled airspace - use the B4UFly app
Your drone will need a Remote ID broadcast transmitter

Awesome fix for the specified problem. Took my mini 2 to Mexico for fun in the surf and sand and the things never been the same since. The left rear motor seized up almost completely, only turning with much effort. I tried this but I didnt have to dunk the motor completely. I instead only removed the props and motor mounting bolts to expose the underside of the broken motor. Holding the drone up so alcohol doesnt enter the arm, I squirted alcohol into the motor and spun it by hand until the motor spun freely. If it doesnt do it at first, keep spinning and adding alcohol. Yeah man, you got it. Good stuff Mr. Original Poster.

Grain of sand stuck a motor and caused my drone to backflip into the dirt, freezing up all 4 motors with grit. Could only find methylated spirits out here in the centre of the Australian desert but after a while it did the trick for all 4 and now we’re up and filming again. Thanks heaps!

I want to thank you for posting this video. I had a crash landing on a beach and sand got into the rear motors. Those rear motors wouldn’t work afterwards. I didn’t know what to do until I found your video. I followed your directions and fixed the problem myself. Probably saving me hundreds of dollars in repairs. I took the drone out for a few tests flights and everything is working fine. Thanks again.

And yes, you are totally right, the space between ROTOR and COIL in this motor is extremely small, and dust turn in to the thick clay, and there is no way to get that out of there, I guess I invented this method, since I did not find fix online.

The bearings in the motor are not sealed - i would be adding a drop of bearing oil to them after washing with alcohol. The shields in these bearings are just basic dust shields.

Thanks a lot! This really helped us. We are just on our 3rd day of the DJI Mini 3 Pro and unfortunately crashed onto "earth ground". It saves us a visit to a service center.
We made sure to really make it dry by spinning (without propellers) for a long period at interval with a mild hot blower also. 70% alcohol works. Let's see if it will work tomorrow after an overnight being stressed thinking what we should do as there was no local service center in our area.

You're welcome! That what I explained many these who don't belive it work - distance between motor sraud and rotor less then any send particles so it melting it in to a power that plug and prevent spinning, I've if you have send, first blow vacuum, then mulch it by hand spinning, then wash it. ThT was my original process.

Thanks for the video! Some sand got into one of the motors of my DJI Mini 2 at the beach. Really thought I'd have to go for replacement but your solution worked really well. I tried high pressure air , even taking it apart, but THIS is the only thing that worked. Thank you so much. I really didn't want to send it back to DJI and now thanks to you I don't have to and can use it on my trip next week! Sounds loony - but it works!!! I would suggest use 90% or higher alcohol - it dries faster. Also, no need to take the arm off, I just turned the arm down, put it in the alcohol and started the take off. First time it sprayed everywhere so be prepared to cover it quickly if you didn't.

As an RC car and truck enthusiast as well as a Remote Pilot there is another way.
Similar to this remove all propellers activate the drone and start up the motors. Using a good cup of water with a drop of dish soap 🧼 insert each motor into the water and spin till clean.
After you clean out all the motors and whip dry. Finally use a can of electric ⚡️ connector spray and this will remove any access water inside and will quickly dry out the motor of any access moisture left inside avoiding any possible rust.
If you can use a drop of silicone oil to keep the joints where the points top and bottom to keep it lightly lubricanted.
Seems like a lot, but it’s pretty simple. You will not hurt your motors at all using water in this process. The water will remove very quickly any access dirt from your electric motor and get it clean 🧼 fast. good luck! 😊

As an 51 year Soviet Engineer, i would reply this:
Theory is different than a practice.
In theories we can say anything that could work.
Processes you just stated, not only hurt your dron, as water is component that could shorts your circuit.
I would upload your video of doing this.
Next segment is soup, it is not necessary component, as we not washing somethings greasy, water could make components rust, and cherry on your pie is lubricant of silicone you won't be able to lubricate anything, as all tide parts are sealed, and lubrication will capture more dust, and then you will need to use my method to wash crease, as it will be much harder, and messy.
And- we waiting link for your videos please. I hape peoples will avoid this method- i won't deep my 1200 dron deep in tho the water. The best solutions is use guidelines, proper landing places to avoid these processes

When you run the motor in a can filled with alcohol, the brown colour you get might be the oil that you just have washed away. Do you think that bearings are fine with none or less oil in a long term use?

Oil is pink. Sometimes I clean the motor housing by moistening the cloth with 99% isopropyl alcohol due to the excessive humidity in my place. Something pink got on the cloth while I was cleaning it. But I know the bearings are sealed. Most likely, the pink oil smeared on the cloth was left outside the bearing during lubrication.

Just crashed my Mavic Air 2 an hour ago, didn't know what to do
I haven't tried it yet but this will be my first time trying to "repair" it by myself
I just need to dip the motor into alcohol and let it spin until it's smooth right? Looking forward for your reply. Thx

    • @goasfarasyoucansee
      @goasfarasyoucansee  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes.
Prepair it all, as preparation procedures take lot more then a cleaning.
Watch video few times, and you will see, that, taking all blades off, loosing damaged arm, so you can rotate, and place in alcohol properly, so spinning won’t spread all the alcohol all over, you will feel when it spin free.
Before spining, you can rotate by hands first, to mulch large pieces in to powder.
Let me know, how it goes.
I have, larger Mavic as well Air 2, luckily, clearing smaller, and large is never crashed.

Nice thank you, great video and instructions.
Can I ask though if what would you suggest be done if the particles that get stuck in the motors are somewhat magnetic and stick to in stator magnets? And what if some particles get stuck on thr gimbal head?
    Thank you God bless

    • @goasfarasyoucansee

Particles in the sand are obviously contain metal, as we are on earth, it is metal planet. So the sand when it crash between rotor, and stator it create dust, the sand dust is flight out, but magnet dust is attract to rotor, that why we use alcohol, as particles very small and they just wash out. As far as Gamble head, this is good question, there is hiding motors, I would use air dust blower from Office depot or home Depot, see if it will help, I would defiantly not touch head much, as it s very sensitively adjusted.

I sadly had a crash with my Mini SE and it went into the sand, I kinda started to clean it, so then when I tried taking it off again to see if everything was ok my right front motor wasn't spinning, I got a little scared so I started spinning the motor left and right, which kind of started to free the sand out a little bit, and I kept doing it until the motor was completely free of the sand, I am not sure if this affected the coil or the magnets, can someone confirm this to me please?
Edit: I also forgot to add that the drone started to fly a little weird, it was not stable at all, It flew either to the right side or left side without me doing anything to it (This was when I tested it back home, windless conditions to make sure 100% that it is fine, which right now it is clearly not)

Very rarely is alcohol cleaner really 100% pure, but it's available cheaply enough at 99% or higher, usually the remainder is pure water or something equally safe. Contact cleaners tend to leave a lubricating / corrosion inhibiting residue which may or may not be welcome on a connector as it may attract dust & dirt

Your bearings is sealed inside. To washougreas, require you to remove cover of the bearing, take it apart, and spin it in gasoline, or similar liquid like mineral spirits, alcohol won't wash it out, as bearingbis sealed.
It take me recently to washout grease from makita grinder that I restored, alcohol wasn't the best solution to use, it simply did not desove grease, I have to use first wd40, then soap water, then alcohol when crease was out, to remove, and dry water from bearing compone, then I used new grease, again it all was open, in large bearing.
There is no way alcohol even get inside drone bearings over 1 minute. It is impossible technically PERIOD
This is what is bearing look like. Partical of alcohol is so large to penetrate trough seals in the bearing, I would not use acetone, as it can cause damages, not only can penetrate in bearing quickly also can washout liquor off wires, and dissolve plastics.
Unfortunately air won't wash particles that shredded and stack between rotor, and coil

If few get inside, then they turn in to the powder by crashing between surfaces. There is only one affordable and many time appreciable by hundreds of watchers method is to use liquid, water is no-no, alcohol is perfect, and remember you not spinning. I do not have time, but I more then happy would record video under microscope in that area, to bust thoughts. You have to sit and spin motor for hour in order to wash anything from bearing. 70% isopropyl is 30% water. Perhaps use compressed air?? If the sand is not magnetic it will fall out if you rotate the motor when pointing the opening down, and compressed air can help get it out. If it is magnetic particles then it won't come out so easily and will require further disassembly and removal using something like blue-tac or sticky clay or tape to grab it.

@@goasfarasyoucansee You said you did not want to use water, just noting out that you did use 30% water. Water may or may not be a problem, but there's a lot of water in 70% iso, and in many cases 70% has other unwanted things mixed in it. For example in 3d printing we avoid 70% iso because these unknown chemicals often cause problems to adhesion. The 92+% iso doesn't have these problems. The motor has a very narrow magnetic gap, and it has a bearing which has some lubrication, and the stator iron may be subject to rust but is passivated against corrosion to some degree. I suspect compressed air and 92+% iso is a safer approach. Others have removed magnetic particles which are very stubborn by disassembly and blue-tac or something sticky that grabs the particles when compressed air fails to dislodge them. I fixed mine without using iso at all. Iso may damage the lubrication so might be a problem in the longer term. Hopefully I won't need to fix them too often by avoiding flying too low, crashing or landing in dirt/sand. I will use only compressed air if possible, any liquids may cause long term problems to the motors.

NO- NO- NO. It won't work, it is nearly same to vacuum from the motor that is size of the matches head) Already try it, and come up with better solution, if you would read comments, it helped hundreds.
