    3:22 "what are you trying to do?" what it looked like to me was the police was trying to block him from the front so the other guy couldn't speed away like he did (presumably to make a stop of some kind), however because the guy sped off first, it caused the policeman to smash into the side of the other rider.

    Dan, I absolutely love the ‘escape’ route and how you kindly explain it. This was something I had to teach myself, as being 6-7 hours away from any place large enough to have real bike courses, one either learns or wrecks. I did both at the start, so it’s great to see you helping educate riders.

    I minimize the chances of dropping a motorcycle by not racing, avoiding group rides, no lane splitting, sober, respecting the power/throttle, etc. I primarily ride alone. I do grip it and rip it. There is a time and a place for everything. Never ride beyond your skill level. I’ve watched Dans videos for years. He has played a role in keeping me safe and alive. 👊🏻

    3:14 im gonna say the cop was either moving to block them so he could talk to them, or was heading up the shoulder for whatever reason and didnt expect them to run the red. I tend to ride just a hair right of center as a little preventive measurement. Please keep showing how doing this can, and does, save lives, as tourists don’t care whom else is on the road.

    Very rational and good sense take on the truck conflict. Obviously both parties are out of line.
    I think in the best world, when people cut you off you just move on. But if you absolutely must say something... keep it about safety. Say... "Hey, that wasn't safe. Please be more careful." And move on with your day.

      Last time I was egregiously cut off, it was 100% coincidence that we ended up at the front of each lane at the next light at the same time... Dude rolls down his window to apologize and claimed he didn't see me. I flipped up the front of my helmet (modular) and retorted, "Try opening your eyes next time!" and gave him a wave and laugh...
      Point was (is?) nobody was killed, no dings on the fenders... and we can BOTH just get on with our day. It's nice when someone at least acknowledges they screwed up, but bearing a bit of humor and laughing is FAR AND WIDE better than crying about it and dragging the whole day down.
      F*** it! If I'm hit or there's an accident, we'll hash it out between insurance companies and court... whatever NEEDS to happen will happen. Short of an accident... who cares? Sh*t's happening ALL THE TIME all over the place. I'm not wasting any more of my time than absolutely necessary on a two-bit moron who doesn't know how to drive/ride... fly... whatever. ;o)

    I've noticed the motorcyclists don't have any problem cutting people in cars off, weaving in and out of traffic coming really close to the front and rear of cars. But when a car does this very same thing to them they get all butt-hurt about it. Don't dish out what you can't take back in return. I've survived for over 60 years of two wheeled riding and about 23 motorcycles. I'll always give every courtesy and consideration to anyone on two wheels. When you choose to ride motorcycles you also choose the inherent risk built into that choice. You (we) are not always easy to see. But this kind of behavior is unnecessary and extremely dangerous. Not everyone will just sit back and take their mirror busted off their vehicle. Read the kind of vehicle you are dealing with. I have two large vehicles. A 3/4 Ton diesel powered pick up truck and an off road Jeep Wrangler. Think about what kind of man I am before you decide to damage my vehicles. I don't drive an Accord or Prius.

    So 20 years ago I was in a jeep wrangler and I was surrounded by 6 motorcycles. I was keeping right because they were in the left lane lane was ending I had my blinker on since the left turn. I started to merge behind the bikers and one brakes excessively fast making it look like I cut him off. So he got irate with me. Now surrounded on all sides two lane road rush hour. One starts bashing in my soft window. Breaking my mirrors. I kept Mt cool and decided the oncoming traffic could be injured if I jerked my car to get them away from me, so instead of cranking my wheel to the left and stop the guy from killing me I opt to slam on my horn keep on the horn for the half mile they are attempting to kill me or give them a reason to do more to me. The front two kept doing break checks and the back two were so close that they would have been injured if I slammed on my brakes.
    I at that point was going to kill the initial aggressor if I couldn't get other peoples attention by swerving him into oncoming traffic. My jeep window had his punch marks in it that he was punching for my face all while he already did other damage to my vehicle. The vehicle behind me flashed his lights and I took a breath and they turned off at the first right turn.
    I rode, my dad, rode my husband rides. I can't convince him we need two Ural bikes so our girls can go out on rides.
    I always give space courtesy and respect to riders that they will even give me waves. I edge up slowly behind them when at left tuns when they need to go left even if I don't. Knowing those lights won't change for them.
    OK started rambling sorry.

    Ironically funny the key chain in the first clip says "But did you die?" I think thats a CTX 700, looks to big to be a Grom. 06:25 could've been worse he could have been on the bike when it hit the barbed wire. Good job, way to turn nothing into something...stoopid! Favorite day on a motorcycle was the day I learned to ride. Buddy of mine lent me his Rebel 250 and did some basic clutch and brake work before heading out on some 25mph backroads in PA.

    • @schneir5
      @schneir5 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just looked up CTX 700, and it's a 700 cc touring motorcycle, so I don't think that's right. He says it's a Navi, in the video. It's definitely not a Grom, because of the dual, external rear suspension. You get a pretty good view of it at 1:57. I just bought my own first motorcycle, that is really similar to a Rebel 250. My friend sold me his '06 Virago 250, and I just got it last week. It's really fun.

    • @theprodigalstranger5259
      @theprodigalstranger5259 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@schneir5 the CTX 700 is a beginner appropriate sport cruiser. While it may have some luggage options it most definitely is not a touring bike. I think you may have seen some images of the larger CTX 1300 which is like a little brother to the Goldwing and comes as standard with hard bags. The Navi has a removable storage box where the engine normally sits on a motorcycle and that motorcycle has an engine where the engine normally sits. So, pretty sure its not a Navi either.

    I noticed that a lot of the time, there's a "I'm in the right mentality" be it driving riding or walking. What i mean by that is for example, a pedestrian is using a crosswalk and a car comes speeding along, the pedestrian mindset is "oh i'm in a crosswalk if anything happens its on them" instead of "oh fuck I might get maimed or die" and the same applies to riding bikes. If a car suddenly merges into your lane a lot of people try to honk or yell instead of getting the fuck out of the way. Your life and health is more important than a possible lawsuit or the "Its your fault haha" moment

    A trick I've learned to get people to listen to you is to lead with something positive, such as a compliment.
    I hate trucks. I think they are way too large, unnecessary for most people who only drive around in the city, and way too dangerous. But for the guy at 14:00, I'd be going up and the first thing I'm saying is "Hey man I love your truck! But what you did back there was really unsafe and I'd hate for someone to get hurt". It's crazy how much better people respond.
    Edit: typo

    I ride, however I drive a service vehicle every damn day. Just yesterday I had a blindspot rider next to me, could not see them in my panel type vehicle, huge blindy. So this squid rode in it for miles from what he said. Had my signal on to the right, he was right in that spot where you can't see anything. Stay out of the blind spot squids and do not hang out there or you will get got. Either move up or fall behind, we can't see you no matter how wrenched our necks get.

    I’m northern CA and southern OR they don’t use road reactors due to snow plows, what they do is grind a sizable groove into the asphalt and paint it with highly reflective paint. Be aware that these grooves exist and can be as bad or worse than road reflectors.

      we call em Rumble Strips in the Northeast

    • @albertpeugh9367
      @albertpeugh9367 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We have those on the sides of the road, they groove the sides of the road continuously and the center lines/dashes are recessed and painted. These give you a smooth, thump, smooth, thump type ride. The sides of our roads make you feel like you need a rest stop after only being on them for a few seconds. Both ideas are good, but when they put road sealant ( I believe Dan called them tar snakes- LMAO) over the deep center line grooves it REALLY becomes precarious.
      I like the Rumble Strips name better than Driver Alertness Warning Devices.

      Come on down to Tennessee, where you practically fall right off the edge of the world, launching your stomach into your ears before slamming onto hard ground again (sayonara hemorrhoids)... and while you're still wondering what the actual f*** just happened you get to pass the "Caution, Dip" sign...
      OR the rando' 4 to 8 inch length of steel pipe sticking out of the road at some random angle RIGHT in a corner or tight curve... It's as if they planned ESPECIALLY to shock drivers and riders while simultaneously wreaking havoc on the suspension/under carriage...
      OR "speed bumps" that are a full 24 inches high and six feet across... If you don't slow down, YOU'RE DEAD if/when you finally do land.
      AND we haven't even gotten to the "legitimate" road hazards that nobody can really do anything about in the mountains... ;o)
