    Wow, nice review! I love the lights, what a great idea!

      Ya they are pretty cool! The fact that the main ones can run off of a battery bank is SUPER helpful. We almost always have one of those on us!

      We have the 4 man version and the lights are great. We really no longer use headlamps or lanterns in the tent. The lights give off great amount of light and never get misplaced.

      Yup i agree!! That was one of my favorite features!! I love that they can be run off of a battery bank!! 🔋 Get thanks for watching and dropping a comment!!! 😀

    I used to use this tent, I now have a T4+ and a T4. It's about like comparing a Mercedes to a Yugo. The Gazelle tents are much higher quality, and have a price difference that reflects that.

      YES!! You are so correct! I really wanted to like the Magellan!! We returned it and now have a T8!!

    I was at a outdoor expo and we had a bad rain storm with high winds. A guy had the 4 man tent and he said he only got a few drips but nothing bad.

      Man!! That would really suck if i got a lemon 🍋!! Because i REALLY liked the tent!! Maybe the 8 person has problems but not the 4!!...??

    Thanks for the thorough review. I actually went to Academy to look at it (in miniature) this morning. I wonder if Gazelle would sell a T8 rainfly separately. 🤔🤔🤔

    • @inmongoose
      @inmongoose 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can buy it separately.

      You can but the Magellan doesnt have the holes in the corners to accept those poles that are attached to the rain fly! I had the same thought but didn't think it was possibe to Rig something up at the corners!! Oh my haha!! You're serious! Well, be sure and wait till Saturdays video before you make a decision because we did end up getting a substantial rain!!

      @@DMSAdventures Looking forward to the conclusion. Our local stores out out of stock anyway. The only way I see the fly working is tying down the sides where the poles would go.

      Ya i agree... but then you lose that benefit of that extra overhang which is awesome!! I wonder if you could just use like... one of those quick clamps maybe! Well talk more after episode 3! 😉

    I would not be getting up there at 5 ft 4! I like having pockets to put my glasses by me at night! The light is cool! This is a big tent! Size and weight is a big deal and holy cow the price! Good choice!

    • @DMSAdventures
      @DMSAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This thing is a pocket paradise! I wonder if there's a weight limit to all the things you could fill those pockets with!! 🤔 It is a let slick tent... if it weren't for the water problems it may be the best family tent overall in my opinion!! Thanks for checking it out! I hope your backpacking trip is still in the works!!

    I have the Gazelle T4 Plus... basically the T8, but the other hub is more like a screen porch. It's great, but its way too expensive. That said, my first tent several years ago was a Magellan Swiftrise tent. Not the hub style though. It worked well for about a year then all of a sudden every window leaked. I think my biggest problem with Magellan is the quality control. Our Magellan had seams that crossed each other randomly, seams that were not taped, seams that were taped but meandered outside of the seam tape. It was nuts. We tried to waterproof it ourselves but after several attempts, gave up and bought a Northface tent from REI. I assume they've gotten that all under control by now, though.

    • @DMSAdventures

      That is so sad! I LOVE the design of the tent so they got gazelle there... but quality is SO important in outdoor gear! I ALMOST got the T4 plus! We DID end up getting the gazelle T8. Just to much water in the Magellan!!

    • @JC_Chappy
      @JC_Chappy 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DMSAdventuresthanks! I should clarify that the Gazelle T4 Plus is our most recent tent and we love its design also. So far it's working great. The Northface from REI was our in-between tent.
      Sad to hear that your Magellan also had water issues. How are you enjoying your T8?

    • @DMSAdventures
      @DMSAdventures  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @JC_Chappy It's fantastic! We've used it upwards of 15 times so far and it's still a champ! We had to put a little seam sealer in two locations but after that it's been dry in heavy rain!

      @@DMSAdventures That's great to hear! I just found your follow up video and watched. Wow, that was a lot of rain in the Magellan. So far (fingers crossed) our Gazelle hasn't leaked. Over all, worth it.

    Aside from the crap rainfly on the Magellan, the biggest differences is actually the fabric quality. The tent fabric on the Gazelle is insanely good quality. It's not the typical generic cheap tent fabric. It is a great compromise between canvas and the cheapo fabric. The rainfly is not an issue because there is no excuse not to put a tarp over either if these tents. They both weigh so much that you might as well bring a tarp.
    The 2nd biggest difference is actually the door. The Magellan double door is way nicer than the Gazelle. I'm 6'4" and the small Gazelle door is unusable for me. The solution to th rainfly in that corner is obviously to just string it upwards to a tree or on a pole.
    The big door on the Gazelle also does not actually zip on the bottom, it is velcroed. This gets annoying quick. The floor being velcroed makes cleaning up the tent actually doable without taking the whole tent down. Great for longer trips or something that stays up for a season or longer.

    • @DMSAdventures
      @DMSAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All great points!! Thanks for stepping up and helping to inform others on the gazelle. I was sure the weight difference had to primarily be the fabrics themselves. MY problem with tarps is 1) if I'm spending a boatload on a tent my primary reason is to stay dry. My 2ndv reason is spend alot on a tent is for it to be super quick to put up. A tarp kills that speed for me. I don't want to spend time adding another layer... but i can be pretty darn lazy too!! Thanks again for your awesome comment!!

    This tent is so huge. Last tent I used was those small boy scouts tent. I’m not 6 feet, so I cannot relate. This tent is like a house. Those are some fancy lights. Having all those windows are pretty cool and can’t believe you can divide to different rooms. It’s the size of the airBNB for the World’s Largest Potato. This will not fit my wife’s Prius

    • @DMSAdventures
      @DMSAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha no, it barely fits length wise in our truck bed. Not gonna make it in a Prius probably. Yes the ventilation of this tent is fantastic. We love 2 rooms and all the pockets! I like to stay organized!! Thanks for watching a mid week video!! 😀
