as a south asian woman, i don’t understand why these men seek out western women and try to mould them into the “perfect” indian housewife when they could get what they want in a traditional marriage.

Honestly, why not marry a traditional Indian women then since a traditional wife is what he wants. Even in my country there are men and women who fell in love with their partners because of how independent, honest, free-spirited they are ect. And then once they are in a relationship, they want to mould their partner into something that they want them to be....that's not love.

Some 6 years ago, a good friend of mine was 7 months pregnant and living with her husband and his parents. One day she wasn't feeling too well and decided to lay down for a bit only for her father-in-law to pull her out of bed an hour or so later and slap her across the face for laying down instead of doing the dishes while her husband juat stood by and watched. After she called her own mother and told her what happened, her mom came over slapped the father-in-law, the mother-in-law and her son-in-law, yelled at them while my friend packed her stuff, then they left together.

TJ is very selfish for not looking for a traditional Indian wife. He knows how his family is and he knows the expectations they'll put on their daughter-in-law, and since he isn't willing to go against that, he should stick to a woman of his culture. Kimberly and her ghosts need to run.

As an Indian woman, I can see that most western women here are sorta unaware that Indian men are really mad about White skin complexions. They will not marry a well educated and excellent woman of character and personality just because she isn't FAIR enough. But they'll marry someone else that they don't even like, just because she's got a whiter complexion (and yes, their families encourage the same since its a matter of pride to have a FAIR and white skinned daughter-in-law). And thus, they will then try to mould her personality into whatever they want. And I've seen all of this happen with first hand experiences. Men in india will literally do anything under the sun just to get a woman of fair complexion to marry them and later they force her to become the IDEAL WIFE they expect her to be. A big reason for this is, indian men take HUGE PRIDE in showing off a wife who's FAIR with a white pale complexion (which is the only and biggest beauty standard in india) to their extended family and friends. I've literally seen indian men boast off how "FAIR or WHITE" their wife is, in parties and family functions. Indian men will run behind a woman as long as she has WHITE SKIN.
And the families of these men are even more racist to girls of our own country because the girls are usually brown skinned and not white or pale. There have been actual cases of domestic violence and forced dowries in indian marriages just because the girl wasn't as FAIR ENOUGH as she was expected to be. Indian men in the past have literally DIVORCED their wives if her complexion wasn't as FAIR as he wanted. Which is why, btw, you also see Indian brides putting on makeup foundations 10x whiter than their actual skin tone, on their wedding day, so their in-laws don't harass them later and can boast about it to their extended families that their daughter inlaw is FAIR AS HEAVEN.
I can't even explain how frustrating all this is to watch as an Indian woman. 😑

Well, while that's true, as an Indian woman, I can also see that most western women here are sorta unaware that Indian men are really mad about White skin complexions.

4:25 Yeah it’s also the same as what narcissists have. It doesn’t mean you’re clairvoyant it just means you think you’re right all of the time, even when you are wrong. A lot of them for some reason (narcissism) love to think this means they have some special power that puts them above other people, and a lot (I’d argue ALL clairvoyants) make money out of conning vulnerable people for same reason (sociopathy).
With my experience of Indian culture there does seem to be a very “it’ll work out fine” mentality. I’m not saying in general it is a bad thing, but this does mean the difficult things are left until they happen, rather than preparing in advance so they don’t become a bigger issue down the line. It’s just my experience so I don’t know if this is true on a wider scale but it just seems a cultural thing of doing (or not doing) with a thought that it’ll probably turn out fine anyway. And in a way, if not taken too far (which my experience with this culture does seem to do), it’s a pretty good way to do things because there’s no point in worrying about stuff you can’t control that may never happen. But the flip side is those things that can be controlled that have a needless risk attached to them if they go wrong. One thing we do see this in is some of the things that happen in India that you don’t need to be a health and safety officer in the UK to work out is probably a bad idea.

It’s incredible that the folks from India have the audacity to assume American women are lazy or whatever. If American society still expected and wanted women here to be stay at home mothers that’d be awesome because then at least we could focus on our children and not be exhausted after doing literally everything for everyone and have to go to work and focus on micromanaging grown ass adults all day.

He wants to stay with his mom. He's not going to do anything and she'll either take it or leave.

Once again we have a American getting involved with a man in India, expecting it to be like the US.
I don’t feel the least bit sorry for her, did she google anything about cultural differences, everyday life in India? Of course not!!
Yes Kim seems to be a sweet person BUT take some accountability. She lived there a year, did she wear a bag over her head the whole time?? Hell she could have watched the show and found out many things.
Yes she has a business of her own but I wonder how much “help” her parents have given her. From the look of her at the reading of the girl that came in I don’t put much faith in her business skills.
Example: woman comes in, Kim meets her then instead of talking with her customer Kim proceeds to ramble on and on about herself.
Kim: I am blah blah blah
Customer: bitc_ shut up and read the cards for me!!
Then we get a look at the preview, he is proud of the apartment, Kim walks in and instant disgust is on her face. Who designed this? It is completely wrong!! The materials and work is substandard! Gee she not only has all those extra abilities she is a master of construction and building materials; In Another Country!! Boy who would have known!!
He is wrong too!! He knows she will not accept his & his family’s way of life (culture) and waiting until after they are married to tell her what is expected of her is a big mistake. Put your cards on the table lay out the truth and expectations see if there is a way to compromise and adjust.
But we see from the trailer she starts using the I left everything and everyone for you! Scenario expecting him, his family and all of India to change completely and accommodate her.
I say the same thing I have said in the other relationships involving western women & Indian men; if you cannot live the way their culture lives don’t get involved!! You have no right to expect anyone to accommodate you in their country, you know the questions before getting involved so ask them, stop looking for a partner in another country that has very different cultures than what you are used to and biggest advice: don’t expect everything & everybody to be like America, they won’t change after the marriage and they shouldn’t have to: Remember:::It’s their country!!!
