John n George..Cant wait to show the video to my wife!!... 2017 i bought back my old EF hatch that i drove in high school...i got a personal loan and just showed up with the car, had to sleep in the couch over the weekend but i had to have it back it was worth it.. She cant believe my weekend bucket is the car i actually drove 20yrs ago!! Viva the car guys!! 👍
Aloera 1980 That is so cool. My wife understands that I’m a major car guy, but still wonders why I’ve put myself into so much debt over these things. Just work hard and pay the bills, she’ll understand you at some point. 👍🏻
I'm only about a year and a half late watching this, i'm not sure how i missed this series but i will definitely be checking out all of the episodes. When you started talking about your history with the car and your previous R, it made me think of my current restoration. I bought a 96 GSR sedan in 2003 when i was in college. Daily drove it up until 2010 when i sold it...talk about instant seller's remorse. Fast forward to 2014 and i told my soon to be wife at that point that i wanted another integra after we got married for a fun car. So, i started looking at craigslist just to see what was out there. No intention of actually buying. Until I saw a 96 GSR sedan for sale about 45 minutes from me. After looking through the pictures and talking to the guy, it was my old car. I bought it as soon as i possibly could. The years out of my possession were not good to it though. The guy i bought it off of was not the guy i sold it to, and he used it as a winter driver. I stripped the car in 2014 and did a lot of rust repair work, replaced basically every part on the entire car with the goal of having a new 1996 GSR sedan. Drove it for a couple summers and then parked it again 18 months ago for quarter panel rust repair and a body work, working towards a complete paint job. Just finished the paint job in September, putting her all back together now so that i can finally really enjoy this car. I am the 2nd and 5th owner of this car now lol. End story time, can't wait to watch the rest of the series!
That's a great story. You were so lucky to get your own car back again. It wasn't long before I sold my RSX that I missed it. What's worse is still sometimes seeing it around the area. Its impossible to miss. Blaze Orange Metallic, JDM ITR Recaros, JDM ITR front lip, Aspec kit the rest of the way around, JDM Type S badge. No one else around had the same thing. If I wasn't more interested in getting an Integra I would love to get that RSX back. Like you, I want a GSR sedan. It would be so mush easier for my kids to go for rides than stuffing them in the back of a coupe hatch. Unfortunately my wife isn't to fond of the idea of me getting another Honda at 41.
I have been waiting for a build like this!! Loved the Civic build but soon happy about this one. Wish I still had my Integra Type R. That cross over brings back alot of memories! Can't wait for it to start.
Hi John. I've owned two Integra GS-Rs in my time, a white '94 and Dark Violet Pearl '00 (both new). I've moved on to bigger and better things, but I miss those cars. The current color combination of your Integra is gorgeous. I wouldn't change a thing. But if you have plans to make it nicer than it is now, this thing is really going to be special. I look forward to this build and I'm sure it's going to be amazing! Take care, buddy.
@@andrewwilken9725 The color was awesome. I only saw one other one like it in person (several online). Back in late '99, I wrecked my supercharged '94 GS-R and went to buy a replacement. The DVP was on the showroom floor ready to go to the Charlotte International Auto Show the next day. I bought it on the spot and as I was signing the paperwork, out in the parking lot of the Acura dealership, they were unloading a yellow Type R that ended up at the show. Much better choice anyway.😉 Working too far from home, I ended up putting almost 7K miles on the car in 4 months. Then I changed jobs, but that place had a long gravel driveway, so I only drove it there a few times. I ended up putting a turbo on the car and kept it in the garage except for special occasions. My wife and I bought a new house, had kids, etc. 4 years later, the car only had a little over 11,500 miles on it and since it wasn't driven much, I ended up selling it. I can relate to John when he says "saving it for the next guy". Haha. Looking back, I wish I had kept it.😶 Oh well. Hope I didn't bore you to death.😴 Take care, buddy.
TheMick26 not at all, cool story. It’s neat to hear about the life of some of the more rare cars Honda/Acura made. And picturing that car in the showroom and an itr on the lot brand new takes me back to better times.
Love this! I have a 2000 civic EJ coupe with a 96 GSR engine and transmission. That engine and transmission is getting a complete rebuild! Thank you for the kick ass videos.
Yalls are so dedicated to Honda cars, I think Honda should fly you to Japan and give yalls a tour in their factory. I know Honda always do that for tuners around the world. They fly them to Japan, cater their meals, and put them in a Honda owned hotel and tour them around Japan Honda scenes.
41 years old, had an H22A 93 Prelude about 20 years ago and an 06 K24 RSX that I sold about 5-6 years ago when my wife and I had our first kid. Always missed that car after selling it. I've recently got the bug again and my 7 year old son has also started showing an interest in cars. He always says how he wishes he could go for a ride in my fast car(the RSX). I've spent the last 3 weeks or so looking for a clean enough silver Integra to consider buying and swapping in a K24. Its rough out there. Looking for something silver to make it an easier job to spray the exterior in R34 GTR Sonic Silver(another thing I have become obsessed with again). The silver on this GSR is stunning. I just found this playlist, I look forward to seeing how it goes.
I'm not a huge JDM fan but I'm excited for this build, I really love the work you guy's do at LHT, hopefully the build comes together the way you plan.
Nearly bought that car. I’m in the Estero area and it was on Craigslist. It was a beauty but ended up snagging an FA5. It was eye candy for sure though, congrats on the repurchase!
Literally my dream car sadly in Spain we dont have base models of this car only imported type-r but the price is high llike 12.000/14.000 euros... love your content!
Oh I think I saw this for sale on craigslist a few months back. Looking forward to watching this series. I remember a guy on the integra forums having issues with the dyno values on his ITR being down on power when he had his 15x8 sticky track tires on vs his regular tires, interesting stuff, makes me curious about my car now lol
Can you ask George if i can buy the stock EP3 exhaust when he changes it? I'm local too so could just swing by and get it, if he wants to sell it of course.
John - I need to drop off my 01 Gsr back into your shop to get some work done. It’s been sitting for years in the garage waiting for some more LHT love... it’s the only car I ever bought brand new off the show room in August of 2001... never letter her go!! 😬
That might be the cleanest Integra I've ever seen. It's so straight with absolutely 0 rust. I have a 97 EJ8 Civic coupe with a built LSVTEC turbo that makes 588 whp and while my car is clean for a 97, but it's nowhere near that clean.
John, please leave the color alone. It looks amazing and its in perfect condition. Also, I know you just started this build, but when you're ready to sell it I'll take it off your hands.
Definitely excited to see this build! Shame you're changing the color I think it looks awesome especially with the ITR wheels and Japanese front end. Does it have the stock GSR motor?

In the process of building the motor in my 2000 violet integra. May I ask how you were able to hit 199hp? I heard you mention springs retainers and cams but anything else?? Stoked for this!!
That’s pretty wild John, about 10hp from 15s to 16s. I wonder if they were about the same weight or if those 16s on them now are heavier? Anyone know the USDM ITR 15s wheel weight vs whats on this one, the JDM ITR 16s??

High 190whp is more than fair for a mostly standard power plant. Looks like the VTEC change point is lowered based on the graph. I recommend k-swap and boost. It’ll be easy to knock out a 9sec pass on slicks.
Perfect! I sold my ap1 and I bought a teggy with a type r front end also until I save to buy an ap2. So the cluster, does the gas gauge always stay wherever the gas is even if the car is off? Because mine doesnt reset to 0 but it works as I fill it and go back to empty it goes down accordingly
22 Degrees of timing you mentioned, did you guys jump a wire to the service check connector behind the the kick panel in far right (passenger's side) corner to correct the timing?

Back when VTEC change-overs were clearly audible. Nice car.
Intake helps get some noise outta VTEC, i wish my DC5 was true VTEC :(
Technically that’s the secondary intake opening around 6k rpm on a GS-R

I completely agree on the whole non matching engine bay "style". It's a fad that will age as well as aggressor front bumpers and Saleen wings
