I have followed Mitch for awhile and knew he was a good guy, but like him way more now for opening up on mental health issues, and I feel like he does so somehow because Brian is such a good listener and communicator. Get the jist that he looks at Brian like a big brother.
On another note I related to Mitch's upbringing having a split family from a young age. When he said it made him very cautious and independent from people over the years, and then when Brian said even if theres one person that can listen to this and relate, I knew that person was me. A podcast collab that came at a time I didnt know I needed. Blessings my brothers

His life always strikes me as so similar to my own. Parents divorced at 3, raised by mom, step-dad in and then out of the picture, never tried to make friends, genetically gifted athlete. For the sake of my mental health, I can attest to the power of one positive thing. On my worst days, it can feel like the whole world is collapsing around me and I'm surrounded with this incredible inertia of negativity. When that happnens, I do one positive thing. It can be as simple as doing the dishes and I can look at the sink that's empty and know I'll wake up the next morning and no matter what happens at least I won't have a sink full of dirty dishes and that's something I can build from moving forward. I completely agree that you don't ever "fix" your mental health, but you can give yourself tools to keep yourself from going down a negative spiral and letting a bad day turn into a bad week turn into a bad month. Telling myself that I always have the agency to ability to do one positive thing on my worst of days is the thing that's allowed me to keep my bad days from turning into bad weeks.

Another amazing interview Brian! I also follow Mitch and this is the first time I found out about his move to Australia. I'm glad it made such a positive impact on his life. I feel like you both needed this conversation. It's not often you get a chance to speak with someone that has the same mindset and fully understands what you'e going through regardless of what you went through growing up. I'm also glad that SMOE is going to keep going and that Moose will stick to strongman even after his days as a competitor. As I mentioned before, the last SMOE was great, just the way the implements were rolling back towards the competitors in the press event kind of made me worried. Besides that, I'm glad you're committed to continuing to create custom, exciting event equipment for future SMOE shows.

  •  9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +7

I love that men can talk about what bothers them. It's like Rogan says about men living lives of quiet desperation. We tend to hold a lot inside, feeling like there's something wrong with us and what is our purpose among it all? I think one of our purposes is to figure ourselves out while, in the process, talking about it so as to relate to others that they, too, might open themselves up as to allow themselves out while allowing others in. We have to release some aspects of ourselves to make room for others to enter our (head) space. This was one of the best interviews I've seen in a long time. Mitch might not always know his purpose, but he just exercised one of them right here.

Unfortunately some people are non constructive of their criticism plus people thinking power lifting is strongman. If you do ever stop SMOE it was good while it lasted. This show is my favorite to watch and I will pay to watch the live stream every year. If I can watch in person I will go as often I can. I love the fact you try new things out and new apparatuses. With all respect to Mitchell’s achievements in life and strongman I cannot ignore the impression I get that he’s been raised in a affluent life, I think it’s this back ground that has played a pivotal roll in his career as a strongman. I’m not saying this makes his achievements any less relevant but I do think it explains a lot.
Ha, no sooner did I type this than he said it himself lmao.
Hopefully as strongman gains more popularity we can get to a point where it in its self is paid well enough so it can become a careerer in its own right. I know with social media it’s become easier for those at the upper level but it’s still not really viable for most.

It's like Ren said - It's like a pendulum eternally swaying back and forth between the dark and the light. And the more intensely the light shines, the darker the shadow the pendulum will cast.

What an intreguing interview, @mitchellHooper you even know CBT! is there anything you don't know ☺😂 I've bipolar & C-Ptsd, the gym is a part of a large puzzle that keeps me sane. My psychiatrist is very encouraging of my power lifting 😀 When I have an awesome deadlift session for example, it makes me feel tired afterwards in such a nice way that my brain doesn't often doesn't allow! Gives me something to focus on, something physical. The gym, weight lifting specifically, has made the most massive difference to my long road in and out of tunnels!

I'm always early to things. I caught onto HIkaru Nakamura streaming chess and then chess and him blew TF up.
I realized mitch was the best thing since sliced bread. Finally everyone else is figuring it out. I"m glad for that. I'll probably cry when Mitch retires, he has made Strongman my favorite sport above UFC and Football

With all due respect, there's an argument in terms of ability that he already is. And I say that with all the respect in the world for Brian but the numbers don't lie.

Brian was never as dominant as current Hooper is. Brian and zydrunas were going back and forth at wsm, and Brian only did that and the Arnold pretty much in a calendar year.

2:30 - Things get off to an interesting start right away as Hooper reviews how he got involved with strongman. And he shares that he was about to quit strongman until he received that well talked about, unexpected invite to the 2022 WSM. Think about that for a minute! If Mitchell Hooper hadn't received that invitation, we might have ENTIRELY missed out on what he's been able to do.

@@WorldsStrongestFan it's mind boggling to think that we might not have had him. It's like picturing a basketball history without a Michael Jordan or a Larry Bird. An NHL history without a Gretzky or a Lemieux. It just doesn't feel right! And it makes me, for one, step back and realize how lucky I am to get to witness this era of strongman.

I am that one person. I tried to unalive myself 3 years ago, had cancer and have been struggling with depression ever since. My parents are divorced. My dad works his ass off but doesn't have much. My mom has it all figured out. And then there's me, standing in the middle of all this trying to figure out something for myself in order to live a life with purpose and give back to my community. 27:14 also, I am 29 but yeah, me again.
I am trying both to lift heavy and be kind but it's a struggle for sure 😅
