    I was an active member of a popular strength forum over the years and Shaw was always the horse I backed and I said from day 1, this guy has the mentality to be the very best and he proved me right
    I have also watched devons career closely and remember the sport when he was raw, but not quite at the top. Then from 07-08 he just stepped it up
    You need to believe you can achieve greatness and that's what all these champions have in common. Plenty have great genetics, but not everyone will be a champion. It's a different mindset

    1:06:20: That building a base to build a peak is a really good concept to have! I've just AW'd for 2 years and it feels like I'm all over with my strength level still, but as long as you just focus on the basics you will improve, even though there will be valleys between the peaks. And polishing your strengths is something that's really helped me, as even though I began with strong hands, even more solid hands doesn't hurt -- more strength is definitely never a weakness, even though it may not directly translate, and your weaknesses gets attacked even though you have great strengths in some areas.

    I remember starting to follow strongman and armwrestling around the same (2011).
    Brian Shaw and Devon Larratt were actually the two guys in those sports that I followed closest.
    So great to see them come together for training, and such a great podcast. Looking forward to seeing another meetup farther down the road! 💪
    Edit: Brian if you are reading this... you have to get John Brzenk over to your gym!

    Strength is the most versatile adaptation that has the greatest impact on everything else. Of course there is carry over among strength sports, it applies to ALL of life.

    • @sagnorm1863
      @sagnorm1863 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Moderate strength is peak health. Everyone should be doing it. Moderate meaning around 400lb deadlift. But competition strength is not healthy.

    • @thestonksmarket1897
      @thestonksmarket1897 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Okay cmon… I love strength as much as the next guy but the single adaptation that is most versatile is EASILY intelligence. And I’m no genius I just know that’s true.

    • @allylilith5605
      @allylilith5605 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thestonksmarket1897 yes, but strength is much easier to build and may well be second after intelligence. a born genius will remain a genius in most walks of life without really trying, while someone with elite strength genetics may never even discover them when he is on a vegan diet with the biggest workout being driving to the office and pushing the elevator button

    6'5. Obsessed with fitness. Pride in his country. Calm cool and collected. 20 years of service. Shares that he was in the military and achieved his dream of joining the "special forces".
    JTF2 is arguably the most secretive 1st tier military unit on earth. Only 1 person has ever released their true identity.
    Devon might honestly deserve more respect for the things he has done across the globe than armwrestling, but we will probably never know.
