@ i’m not being funny, but it doesn’t look above parallel? I know the camera angle isn’t ideal, but all of his other heavy squats with good angles are legit depth…What have you seen?
I feel like shot putters would be some of the best athletes to cross over to strongman, they would have the best athleticism and they have good static strength
Once i had the pleasure to spot Joe Kovacs on Benchpress at my local Gym in Székesfehérvár Hungary in 2023. Joe was here for some shotput event. Even as a Hungarian top 10, 105kg powerlifter i was feeling puny. Joe was block benching with the same weight as i was squatting at the same time like 200kg. That man is a monster. He also had a shotput ball in his gymbag he showed me 😂. Huge respect to both of you guys.
Watched the video now - very impressive throwing, Mitch - going to the Olympics is a once in a lifetime experience for any athlete- you are only young once. Joe Kovacs is an impressive human being and his wife is his coach.
I miss the days when WSM had athletes from other sports competing. I think professional strongman didn't become a thing until the 2000s. In the 80s you had a lot of pro football guys and shot put athletes competing, they couldn't beat the powerlifters in the static lifts but those guys had to catch up to the athletes in the more athletic events like the toss.
I wonder how a strongman transitioning to PED tested sports would go. Even if you got off them for a length of time that makes them undetectable in testing and stayed off. Would definitely be controversial
@@sherlockholmieblitz4814 this is very interesting also because he has all but admitted that to be competitive in strongman you have to commit to the "lifestyle" which many believe is him admitting to doing drugs. This could be something that automatically bars him from competing. I don't know what the actual rules are but I believe he would have to be in the WADA testing pool years before being allowed to compete internationally.
@@jobrah6837yeah, they are no doubt. But they are on no where near as much because of the testing. Sure, you can take a decent amount but you cant just go loading up.
Just saw you on Brian Shaws podcast, and i’ve gotta say i really appreciate everything you’re trying to do. You’re an inspiration no matter the results because you’re a guy that puts in the effort and that’s something alot of young men needs to see these days, and also something slightly older men like me needs to be reminded of from time to time. Thanks man
Honestly I think Mitch could make 70ft in a year mid low 50s off the rip from a half spin is good. Im a high school coach and I've seen kids go from form like that to semi decent full throws and go from 30 to 50 in a season
Have this ever been tried this as an strongman event? "cannon ball throw" to make it sound more strongman like. Liked his idea of ladder style comp. If keg tos can be strongman, this can be strongmen for sure!
Go for it Mitch! I believe you could train to be one of the best. It would have to be purely for the joy and challenge of it though. I doubt it pays as well as Strongman.
Mitch, your athleticism and ability to adapt to different movements in a short time is incredible. Plus the fact that your a 300+ lbs man makes it that much more impressive. Was wondering if you had to deal with a lot of negativity from envious or jealous people because of it.
Mitch, You are too young and skilled to stop being a professional strongman, but since you could realistically do both at the same time, if you want to do it, then go for it.
I’d like to see you give the shot an honest effort for a few years. Judging from the few lifts I’ve seen from Kovacs, it’d be interesting to see what he’s capable in strongman!
I'm honestly impressed by Mitch here. He's athleticism has always been a strong suit in Strongman and that's what will help him the most if he were to compete in shot put. He's strength is great but without the mobility and being able to have balance and speed it's not worth as much. Just look at Eddie. I'd reckon Mitch could do 20m with a year of training. If he really put in an effort he honestly has a good chance to qualify
For Arnolds they should do a real Angry Bird style comp where distance and destruction of obstacles are taking into account. Make the obstacle cool maybe add explosions for finals.
The absolute meat on Joe Kovacs shot putting hand is ridiculous. I remember watching a Ryan Crouser video where he mentioned that shot put force and distances are so high now that the human hand literally cannot stand up to the force, hence why they tape their fingers so heavily. Stops them splitting open.
A lot of people would agree that the shot put is the most explosive sport there is, even more explosive than weightlifting. Honestly, spend enough time training the techniques and get that neurological adaptation in your brain, and yes you would be an olympian. Out of all of the other strong men out there, I do believe you have one of the greatest potentials for the shot put

Giant men playing with balls. Peak content.
Not the video I was expecting when I searched for it.
I've been waiting on this collab. Joe is one of the most underrated badasses in the whole business.
He’s done around 400kg squat for 4 reps in knee sleeves, no suit, no belt, in a normal gym
Extremely strong, but above paralel squat, close to half squat
@ i’m not being funny, but it doesn’t look above parallel? I know the camera angle isn’t ideal, but all of his other heavy squats with good angles are legit depth…What have you seen?
@@georgedj4937 Guess it's focused for explosive power from that position, no need to go parallel

you're a bot
I recommended this about 6 months ago - very happy to see it happen. Joe K. Is insanely strong and ungodly powerful

I love that Eddie Hall is catching shade just because. Shot put contest?

The throws are so insanely cool and need more attention. Absolutely freakishly strong and explosive athletes as well, even in the light one, javelin.
I'm a highlands athlete and one of our 9 events is the stone put (i.e. shot put). This was extremely helpful in learning proper position
Geoff Capes (RIP) was a shot putter who became WSM; would have a nice circularity to a WSM becoming an olympic shot putter
RIP the Great Geoff Capes

You know moose is training hard when he ain't got time to shave
Joe was a fantastic guest
Love these collabs with elite guys Mitch… it’s what we want to see.
This is amazing. I did throwing in high school and always felt like it was underappreciated. Ryan Crouser in the next video?
As a track guy this was fun to watch. Thanks for humbling yourself to learn a new sport
This is what I’ve been waiting for!!
Only in the heaviest weight class of powerlifting can you just eat what you want and get fat without problem
As an athlete, this is an inspiration 🖤💯
Great video with Joe!
So spiked for this colab
I've never given shotput a second thought but I really like this dude
Do a video of you and Joe doing strongman! I want general strength fans to see how strong shot putters really are
it’s actually insane that he said “let’s give it a chance” instead of “let’s give it a shot”
Dude I genuinely think it would be so cool if you became a professional shot-putter.
We made it to the big time baby!!!!!
Do it! World's Strongest Shot Putter!!
Honestly before u tear yourself up with strongman would love to see u as a shot putter
13:53 Last year’s Mississippi 6A champ threw 51’8

You are too young and skilled to stop being a professional strongman, but since you could realistically do both at the same time, if you want to do it, then go for it.
you both need a show.
the athletic capacity of this men is simply amazing. Imagine he goes into combat sports and actually learns a martial art🤯
Do this again but with yalls shirts off. Thx ☺️
Gaaaay🗣️
I’d like to see you give the shot an honest effort for a few years. Judging from the few lifts I’ve seen from Kovacs, it’d be interesting to see what he’s capable in strongman!
Making this video means you are now obligated to try the hammer and discus
If Joe Kovacs were a little younger he'd kill it in Strongman, Novikov style.
loving the beard Mitch 👍

Joe is so humble if he wasn’t throwing at the same time as the goat (Crouser) he would be the shotput goat and he’s an amazing overall athlete too
Ofc Do it!😊
Are we gonna see his lifts too?
Do it!
I think you will do very well in shot put
this is like the second time I've seen Mitchell with a guy who doesn't get absolutelly mogged. There's no way he's natural
You better do some squats with him!

What a great goal, to become an Olympian
Holy calves, guess i need to incorporate shot put for my calves.
Mitchell, how good at arm wrestling are you?
Probably the best in no time

wish this was on a shotput circle
Hammer throw would be more fun.

Very cool
Lol does Mitch know that the Olympics has drug testing??
He's Natural
Laughable testing
The will sasso arc
If you were in the Olympics, you'd be the first non-American I'd cheer for
You should do it
Do it, please try shotput or discus
Is that gonna be your new side job, in the off-season?
Amazing
Would Mitch be the first WSM winner to compete at the Olympics?
I don't know if you should consider this venture... feels like you'd reach fewer people.
Forgot Sara Mitten? World number 1 female shot put. Canada
Ryan Crouser is the goat shot putting
im not sure u KNOW HOW STRONG kovacs is , hes almost as strong as u m8
he’s done a video breaking down his lifts, i think he knows lol
Mitchell really seemed to think he could become Olympic athlete without much difficulty , usual just for clicks content 😊
Want to seem him actually try out strength sport for real some time, atleast for a short while
