Thus far during Covid lockdown I've finished my lifted 2004 Subaru Forester build, to include header back exhaust, full interior insulation, full aftermarket audio, and full clearance of the new beefcake wheels and tires. I also cleaned up some rust and coated the wheel wells to minimize sound from the tires entering the cabin. Lastly I need to score a new set of headlights and retrofit some HID's in there. Then onto building my motor in my WRX and completing a tune up on the wife's AutoX build. Then I can finally start to modify my S1000RR!!!!

I found some expensive mufflers and exhaust at local junk yards for pretty cheap: $200 magnaflow muffler and some extra pipe for $5.

Getting an aftermarket exhaust for a car that is otherwise stock for the performance benefit is a complete waste of time and money. With just replacing the rear section you absolutely nothing but looks and sound. To get performance you need to replace the complete thing, and as he points out in the video to make power gains you'll need to change the geometry for it, which actually decreases your low end torque because you just can't have it both ways. The only (minor) performance gains people can get throughout the rev range are by actually removing the catalytic converter(s) and mufflers but then it's not apples to apples comparison because you've technically made the car illegal to drive on the public road.

It's not just the valve timing, but also valve lift, hence why the big power increase. Older systems took their time to engage, that's why the torque curve always comes down before spiking back up. This was solved with the introduction of the smoother yet no less effective i-VTEC.

There is a big business in Portugal, because all the car parts from aftermarket you pay TAX(23%!!!!!!!!!!) and you cannot homologate them, so the cops are constantly watching for all the mods... Even a straight pipe. And the fact we are a small country, it's very easy to they meet you again on the road and they already know what you got on the car....of course there is a LOT modify cars in Portugal 90% civics and diesel ibizas. Very cool! Now I learned why my bike gets significantly more power when I removed my db killers but gets a bit rougth in low rpms, because the db killers narrow the diameter

Love the videos you guys put out. I've got a '77 PowerWagon with a 383, and 400 heads from '77, it has headers, but needs new ones. I just don't know if I want to go with Longtube{ as it has them now} or if I should go with short tube headers, or if I should just go with some stockboi manifolds. Have you got any vidz on headers/manifolds? I'd like to check them out if you do, if you don't, it would be sick if ya could do one.
    plz just dew it

I have a friend who wants nothing to do with performance cars/trucks. He was saying nobody gets laid for reving their engine...thats what the outside world thinks of motor heads. Its not to get laid, its to get ourselves off without needing someone else! Lol!!

I think Magna flow makes some of the best headers and exhaust when it comes to complimenting equal sounds of engine/intake, and the rear exhaust note it's self being very smooth and clean.

I had the Miata in its first year of production, 1990. Loved it. Put 122,000 fun miles on it. Never altered a thing. PS: I had a Firebird 400 way back in the day. Something in the exhaust system came apart. Wow did that sound great! Listening to the officer tell me he was giving me a ticket for that didn't.

The trick to freeing up your exhaust is that you have to also free up your intake! A freed up exhaust does nothing if the intake is restrictive. Same the other way around. A freed up intake does nothing if the exhaust is restrictive! You get the best bang for your buck if you do both the intake and exhaust. This is where you will see your best increase in power and performance.

I paid 1000€ for my custom hand welded 3" stainless steel exhaust on my Volvo 940 and it's totally worth it! The car sounds awesome, turbo spools faster and it puts a smile on my face every time I accelerate and hear the awesome engine sound! Bonus is that it will never rust unlike the non-oem spare exhaust parts :D
