Eddie Kendricks was the love of my mama life! Her birthday was October 12th and when Eddie died on October 8, 1992 my mom had to pull the car over. She just broke down. My mom was about 32 and I was about 8, but I remember that day clearly. My mom wore black for an entire year. Gerald LeVert was the only man that could bring her out of that funk. Chile and you know what happened there. Long live those greats Mr. Kendricks, Mr. LeVert, and my OG Mudda (my mom) 🙌🏽♥️ great job Ashley!

Our family was originally in Union Springs, AL. then moved to Ensley, and finally in Pratt City, AL. Eddie attended the local high school named Western Olin High, which is now Jackson Olin High (named after Mr. Jackson the Principal). My Aunt Edna is in her 80s and still argues with her remaining living classmate about which year Eddie left high school to pursue his career in the North. Hava a Blessed day. MJ
Parris Kendricks is Eddie Kendricks biological son. My mom has passed away December 2019. I don't know about all of this cheating because he was married to my mom Patricia Kendricks in the early days of my stepfather even joining the temptations.

The kendrick's are a kind and beautiful family my Granddad use to sing with him in Birmingham before he was famous. I love to hear the story my granddad tells. We live down the street from his mother in Ensley Al my mom is friend with his niece she also has a mini Museum of her Uncle in her house and every time i see her she invites my kids to come.Just thought i would share. Thanks Ashley for your beautiful stories please keep them coming cause your channel is the best on utube.I broke my neck in a car accident and sometimes am in bed for weeks your videos most definitely get me through it 😍

Very underrated. The main reason was because of Berry Gordy's spite and envy of Eddie. He could never completely take Diana Ross's mind off of Eddie. Eddie really was her one true love. Berry envied the younger, sexier, far more handsome Eddie Kendricks. So, Gordy didn't promote Eddie's solo career as well as he could have. Yet and still, Eddie Kendricks is a very beloved musical icon on the sheer strength of his talent. 💜💕💜

My dad worked in the tv business and then the record business back in the 60s and worked with a lot of the Motown acts. He loved the Temptations but he said Eddie Kendrick was the hardest to get along with out of all of the Motown singers. Eddie didn’t mess around with Mary Wells but he didn’t mess around with a lot of the females in and around Motown black & white. Eddie wasn’t the only one who was jealous of Marvin Gaye everyone was.
Edit: my dad always thought Paul Williams did kill himself because he had serious health problems that were making his life hell and a lot of his friends left him behind bc he was hard to be around.

My sister went to Eddie Kendrick’s funeral so that she could see her favorite singer Diana Ross. He passed away at Princeton Hospital and is buried at Elmwood cemetery which is all about 5 minutes from my family home in Birmingham.

Not sure narcissistic is the right term to describe Eddie. Eddie Kendricks NEVER had to lay traps and play games to get women. Women LOVED Eddie! The problem was all of the traveling and so many women trying to get to him. He didn't have to play games to get women. He did not enjoy hurting women. He was a very caring person. I first saw Eddie Kendricks in late summer 1970, as a member of the original Temptations while on tour with several other popular Motown groups and solo artists, he was my favorite next to David and Paul.. all five were gorgeous, talented showman’s, and so classy on stage, it’s probably the best concert compared to many. 🤩
Around 1983, met Eddie Kendricks in a nightclub down south (GA) he was sitting at a table alone, I had heard on radio he would be there and assumed he was there to perform, he only sang a few lines of “Keep On Truckin” that lasted less than 2 minutes, because health wise he couldn’t, he was super thin, frail like, this person with him had to hold onto him to keep Eddie from falling down, clearly should not been out working, it was hurtful to see him that way.. but earlier while he was sitting alone I did briefly speak with him, he was soft spoken and very kind, I was nervous, couldn’t believe I was in the presence of this legendary person.. I did ask if I could get his autograph and he said sure.. great memory, he remembered my name too, and on a restaurant white napkin he addressed to me with my name “Best wishes, with love Eddie Kendricks” I still have it, R.I.P.🐐❤️

Also, a little known fact, but Diana Ross lived in Bessemer, AL when she was a child (not sure if she was born there though); so Eddie, Paul, Dennis, and Diana were all from the Birmingham Metro area. Something must have been in the water that created stars!

Diana was born in Detroit and moved to her grandparents in Ala. because like most families then there were too many children to be taken care of..then her parents sent for her back to Detroit when her father became more stable. So I've read..
@@phillycheez6288 yeah they said her mom was sick and she had to move down south for like a year. But she is definitely a Detroit girl born and raised. Second of six kids so that is a lot.

Eddie was a fairly decent guy. He had issues with women just like most men. He was a kindhearted person. He never hid behind his fame. Eddie was very approachable and giving of himself with his fans. People truly loved him - still do. 💞💜💞

The Temptations were the Hottest group when I was in high school and back then we didn't know anything about stars cause there were no social media. Thankz for letting us in on these older stars lives. I love it.

I read some comments on The Temptations Psychedelic Shack video that said Eddie Kendricks wasn't a fan of Melvin Franklin! He didn't think they needed a Bass singer. When questioned about their source, those who commented said they read it in a book called Motown: Music, Money, Sex, and Business, I believe it was called.
Eddie never gotten along with Melvin and had been trying to push him out of the group since day one and wanted to bring in a singer he knew from his Cleveland days.
