Great review. I actually watched this a day or so ago, but got busy, and didn't have a chance to comment. The functions of this piece are actually really quite impressive for the price point, esp. on a fully analog watch. Technology really has come a long way over the years. I think the "nato," suits it perfectly. Keep up the good work my man.
3:39 The back cover is not screwed, but snaps. Unfortunately. Just look at the back cover, you'll find a tab on it. It can be used to snap the back cover off. It would have been better if the back cover was screwed, much more reliable, and better suited for a 100-meter water resistance rating.
Not something I would consider myself but I appreciate all the features they've packed into it. Definitely could be useful for the adventurous folk. Nice job with the review
Very detailed review. Enjoyed it and very underrated channel. Was looking at this watch and this vid just convinced me to buy it. Its a very nice watch from Timex tbh. Another solid watch to add into my Timex collection
Maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it’s a great tool watch that doesn’t look like a cluttered mess considering the functions offered. Holds its own in terms of having some rugged aesthetic yet stylish. I really enjoyed your review format and editing, subbed 👍
Excellent review! Timex did a good job with this watch. I subscribed to your channel because I saw reviews of many interesting watches. We have similar tastes. Greetings
i'm somebody who makes my living on a boat 6 days a week and i can appreciate the tide function being engaged at all times lol...i do realize that 99% of people have no use for the tide function though
Very cool watch. I like the stainless steel case and the analog read outs which gives it a different look to the mostly digital display on these types of watches. The size is really cool too as most watches in this category tend to be near 50mm. Did you check if the readings are accurate? Most watches with a thermometer for example need to be left alone and off your wrist to get a good temperature reading. Watch would really benefit from solar as those permanent functions should eat battery life pretty fast. Great and comprehensive review, thanks!
Readings were accurate. What's great is you can calibrate the compass and tide to maximize the accuracy. The manual tells you to do that right away as the factory setting will be different from where it ends up going. It also states to take the watch off for a little bit for the thermometer to get the best assessment of ambient temperature, but that's fairly standard across every brand. Solar would make this watch an absolute beast. I'm surprised they did not decide to implement that feature.
I got this watch. Love the look. Only negative for me is the hr and min hands.Very hard to tell the time at a glance. They get lost against the dark dial and white indices. They should have made it white for the complete length of the hands so that they can be easily spotted, or maybe coloured different like say yellow (the tide button colour) to provide more contrast
By the way it isn't a screw down back, it is a snap on .. just FYI White isn't anything but looks, they orange is every reading compass, temp and tide.
Great video and I find it to show the true appearance of the gunmetal version unlike others. I shall be ordering this watch tomorrow as this watch really grabs me. You could get a £2000 watch with this one next to it and i'd likely choose this but this wouldn't be the case if it was next to a rolex, obviously 😆
The only thing I dislike about this watch is the second's hand not hitting the indices perfectly like Casio Edifice etc, hope they can get that sorted and it would be a steal.
If the second hand is off, it's by an unnoticeable amount in real life (at least that's how it is on mine). It may look worse on the video because of the camera angles.
@@degenerateWA I have seen other videos and they do have it slightly off sometimes, but for the money I think they should have a proper ticking seconds hand or they can go the Seiko route of having a smooth seconds hand for quartz whichever is feasible. My OCD can't handle it lol 😬 Other than that this watch is really solid with its tech and colour scheme..... might get one when it's back in stock in my country.
This is such a cool looking watch. I have several dive watches and I'll probably never go diving, but getting a tide watch while living in the mountains seems pretty dumb.
Excellent review. Would you be able to say if there are other watches from other brands that provide similar features for less money? The compass feature in particular would be useful. The Suunto Core is a nice alternative but also not cheap.
The Casio SGW100 and SGW600 are good budget friendly alternatives that offer the compass function. I believe Timex also has some simpler Expeditions that offer a compass too.
Just got the same watch. Can I contact you somehow in Facebook or somewhere else. For me the functions does not seem to work. I am in room temperature and it shows like -20degrees Celsius example. If I look at your video yours seem to show the same...
How is the ticking sound on this one? I got myself the Tide temp compass that has the rubber strap (and the turquoise face) and the second hand tick was insanly loud :( Beautiful watch but I couldnt live with it....
It is a Ritche NATO/Zulu strap. I ordered it from Amazon. Ritche is one of my favorite NATO strap brands; haven't been disappointed yet and I've ordered around 10 of their straps: a.co/d/e6bbwsL
Very nice watch, and a nice size for us big wristed fellas! Excellent review. Might be better on a normal strap as the NATO might add a little bit too much to the height. Would love to join the FB community but gave up FB many years ago. Good luck to everyone who enters the giveaway; I do understand the issue with the indicator hand. On my G-Shock Mudmaster the minute hand acts as the compass pointer so you don't need an extra hand on the dial, and of the temperature is on a separate digital screen.
I'm not able to find this watch anywhere. It seems there're similar models, but I'm looking for exactly this one with the military green textile strap. Could somebody provide a link?
It doesn't detect the tide. It assumes the tide position based on the current moon/sun position which progresses on a normal 24 hour cycle. The user has to manually set the tide position based on current tide charts and then the watch will automatically cycle from high tide to low tide as time moves forward.
It's a NATO/Zulu strap from Amazon, specifically from Ritche straps. I find that their quality has been very good in the overwhelming amount of NATO strap companies.
It's a very nice watch! As an alternative you could also look at the G-Shock Mudmaster GG-1000 ana-digi with possibly a more sensible way to have the compass and temperature reading, I have one myself, though I'd still be tempted to get this one too! Really liking the design and build.
It has its charms, but way to many hands on the same axis (cluttered). In my opinion, with these analogue temperature and tide features constantly running in the background (+ indiglo, which is an eye kandy) the battery will run out real fast. In my opinion, they have put standard battery but not a solar one because it would not support the power hungry functions of the watch reliably + it would be more expensive (more overpricing required). Great review - Thank you!
There's room for improvement. I think in this case the Expedition could really benefit with an ana-digi movement. In fact, if they made this change I believe it would outshine many Casio Protreks simply by the case materials alone.
@@degenerateWA You lose points for LDO but gain em back with the rating. I'm an ET! You as well! Almost pulled the trigger but this Christmas was expensive and this one isn't solar.
@@leetroy808 i feel you. I prefer solar myself and IMO there are better options out there that provide compass, tide, and temp more effectively. In this case I think the multifunction hand is really more of a parlor trick than anything else. Still cool and works, but if I had to pick elsewhere I would.
How are the temp readings? My garmins etc all read off, they'd all add body temp to the reading so to get temp you really had to take watch off for 5 mins so pretty useless
Same as your Garmin. The manual specifically states that you need to remove the watch for a few minutes in order to get an accurate reading. Would be cool to see a temperature watch that had a thermally resistant shield facing the body so this wasn't an issue.
In that price range it's double more expensive than a solar powered digital Casio ProTrek but it's not even close to ProTrek...Timex could do a better job, especially for that price. By the way, was it a really huge poblem to make a drilled lugs? Why not to put some lume at the bezel marks? Timex strap like a Timex strap....a complete rubbish. Like anyway
I love my Protreks but I've grown less fond of resin case materials, so there's definitely a value found in a watch like this one. All in all, it's great that there are other brands like Casio that provide the value if the Timex does not resonate with the individual.
So many things wrong in this inaccurate review! 1st of all, the watch is actually called: Expedition Tide-Temp-Compass, not Expedition North! Second of all, the back is not screw-on case back, it is a snap on-off case back!

What a stunning watch! That NATO strap really does fit the aesthetic.
Great review! Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
I’ve been looking at these used for ~$100 and seem like a great value.
My summer watch of 2022. Amazing value piece.
It's a move in the right direction for Timex.

Good catch. I jumped to conclusions based on the texturing on the caseback.

Never hurts to add more choices to our rejection list🤘 I think the most important thing here is the direction Timex is headed and I'm all for it.

'the military green textile strap' or simply: Nato, is not stock. Did you even watch the video, mofo?!
Great looking watch with a lot of great features. Not a fan, thought, of the second hand not ticking along the indices.
Maybe it was the camera angle.
