    1/26/23 UPDATE: My replacement watch has arrived and everything is functioning correctly! Looking forward to having the information from these complications on my wrist, and I'm anxious to see how long the battery life is.

    • @jeffb321

      Maybe it wasn't calibrating right because it had a low battery being the guard was pulled???

    • @WatchWitt
      @WatchWitt  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      My gut thinks that, yes. But remember there was an issue with the date complication too. Otherwise I probably would have just tried a fresh battery myself. I lucked out, though, because the replacement watch has tighter friction on the bezel, and seconds hand is hitting WAY more markers than the first watch!

    • @johnnyj.817
      @johnnyj.817 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the seconds not hitting the indices is my biggest reason not getting this watch… i think it’ll drive me nuts

    • @WatchWitt
      @WatchWitt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnnyj.817 My replacement watch is hitting the markers better, but still not 100%. I'm also one that discredits a quartz for not hitting the markers, but for some reason it's not bothering me as much on this one. I think because I'm focusing on all the other complications! With a traditional 3 hand quartz, the seconds hand is the only "action" to hone in on!

      @@WatchWitt I totally understand… temp and compass AND INDIGLOW?! so perfect for a hiker that someone can take it out in competition vs a Citizen landmaster. :D
      I don't expect it to hit ALL the indices at this price point, but not as bad as the one in your review. I wonder if Timex will accept that as a warranty exchange if I get one as bad as yours w/o the aux hand problem.

    Great review, I have every model of Timex compass, tide and temp watches, a few that are the really old vintage that were just compass and had an inner ring that would turn instead of being on the outside of the dial. Great watches.

      I think generally a digital compass needs frequent calibration. I don't wear this watch often (since I'm almost always wearing a review watch!) but I've experienced what I believe are faults with this compass, too. Mind you, I'm not hiking with it...just fiddling. I'm hoping to do a full review on this watch soon, one year later, as this was my extensive unboxing.

      @WatchWitt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Right?! It's got a great mountaineering look to me. You don't like the strap, or you mean swap to something water appropriate? It's funny, I'm pretty picky about leather, so you wouldn't guess that I'd like Timex leather! Great that it has sapphire, and the AR coating seems decent. Snap on/off caseback is downer, but everything else is notch above!

    Oh man I didn't think about if you don't want to calibrate the declination is to simply adjust the dial...cause you maybe hiking in different areas and if you calibrated to where you live it will be off a bit..thanks for the explaination.

      I wasn't holding it very flat or steady, because of trying to keep the dial angle visible to the camera. BUT, you're right. I have doubts about the accuracy of the compass. I don't use it often enough to have a definitive conclusion, but I'm skeptical.

    Why people don’t understand the compass should have 2 hands. If one shows north other shows south. That’s the standard compass.

    • @WatchWitt
      @WatchWitt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I was in "watch" mode, not really thinking of the compass, but more of traditional watch hands. That's some of what you get when I'm seeing a watch for the first time on camera. However, they do have some models where the multifunction hand has more of a long counter balance, rather than this double sided hand.

    The eco friendly part is because the manufacturing process uses the water already in the leather and doesn't add additional water and cuts the chemical, Chromium III, by 50% in the process, and claims no by-product waste at the end.

    Hi,
    Thanks for a great review of a very useful and stylish looking watch. Was just wondering whether the malfunction of the first one was due to a tired battery? My Timex chronograph loses calibration and behaves very oddly as the battery comes close to the end of its life; and yours was running when you unboxed it... I suppose I am just sticking up for Timex a bit as I love the brand 🙂

      It could have been. You're right, the original watch was ticking when I opened the package. Since it was such a new model, I can't imagine it had been produced more than a year before I opened, though. And I've had the replacement running for about 1 year and 8 months. But you never know...could have been a faulty battery. I love Timex too! Was glad that the second watch was as to be expected!

Just have to lay it face down on a cloth, and get something that you can pinpoint the pressure onto the backing with. Example, I needed to lay some body weight onto it, I have this little hand-sized globe thing, with a flat spot about the exact size of the watch cases back. I then lined everything up, and just laid some body weight on it. Eventually it snapped into place. Could also put the back plate into the freezer for a few minutes to help contact it a hair.

      The 721 has a mineral crystal rather than the sapphire crystal on this watch, which is a consideration and I think that they both look good. I was thinking of buying one of the two, but am concerned about the reliability of the complications, and wonder what the users typical experience is with the reliability/quality picture, especially as it was an issue with the watch tested in this video? Anyone with experience here?

    Hate it when minute hand doesn’t align correctly with second markers, the hallmark of a ‘cheap’ watch.

    • @WatchWitt
      @WatchWitt  ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you mean the seconds hand doesn't hit it's markers. (The minute hand location can be adjusted when setting the time, though it can vary too...!) I'm the same way. Timex seems to be hit or miss (pun intended!) My Expedition Scout hits pretty much bang on. This watch wasn't that great, but the replacement watch I received is better. Not perfect, but better.

    • @WatchWitt

      Only the multifunction hand is motorized. Timekeeping is traditional 3 handed analog quartz. This style just adds some complications that are outdoor related.

      I'm with you. While I don't "disown" them, they end up getting less wear time, or eventually sold.😳 Good news that my replacement watch (see end of video) hits most of the markers! Bezel has more firm friction, too.

  • @blkfld7850
    @blkfld7850 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I guess that's an ok watch for someone that wants those features at a cheap price point. To me, I'd rather have a more quality built watch from somewhere other than China. Japanese made Seiko or Citizen offers a higher quality movement and better-quality control. I can see that second hand doesn't even line up right with the indices.

    • @WatchWitt
      @WatchWitt  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hear you, but I don’t think either of those companies would be even close to this price range for the motorized complications featured. The watch in the video was indeed replaced by the watch I currently have, and while my current watch hits the markers better than the one in the video, it’s still not 100%. So, that will vary from watch to watch in this model. I’ve got a $40 Timex that hits all its markers!

    • @WatchWitt
      @WatchWitt  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No, it's that way for the compass mode, to mirror an actual compass...one hand pointing north, opposite end pointing south. I just missed it during this unboxing...I was more in "watch" mode! The Fahrenheit and Celsius registers are stacked on top of each other...the hand points the identical reading in each scale.

      I'm really liking this one! I truly believe it's just a depleted battery as well. The behaviors lean towards that, and remember the plastic crown extender didn't do its job...watch was ticking when I opened it. But I'm just sending back for a new one to make sure. Besides, I HATE snap on/off casebacks! I need to buy a proper press.
