I do not do sound tests to be as accurate as possible and portray what a board sounds like perfectly in real life. This is something I do for fun!
I will continue to improve my sound tests with better lighting, video, and audio, but please do not take my videos as professional-grade or “how a keyboard with this config will sound like”.
I hope that using different mics will illustrate that depending on your mic, you may catch higher/lower frequencies better than other mics, and some mics sound naturally “brighter” or “darker” than other mics, even without any filters or any sort of post-processing.

Sound test specs
- Recorded in an untreated room, so background noises can sometimes be heard (and outside noise)
- Glorious 4mm thick desk mat on a solid wood desk
- Panasonic HDC-TM90 Camcorder
- Audio normalization in DaVinci Resolve for easier listening, but no other sort of EQ or alterations were made to the audio
- Recorded in Reaper and rendered in 24-bit/48 kHz
- Audio interface sample rates at 48 kHz
Mic specs
- Lewitt 040 Matched pair of small diaphragm condenser mics in AB configuration mounted on a mic stand not in contact with the desk that I type on running into an Audient Evo 8, gain set at 2 O'Clock
- Rode NT1 5th Gen condenser mic mounted on a boom arm attached to the desk used to type on running into an Audient Evo 8, gain set at 2 O’Clock
- Audio Technica AT2020 condenser mic mounted on a boom arm attached to the desk used to type on running into an Audient Evo 8, gain set at 2 O’Clock
- Samson Q2U dynamic mic mounted on a boom arm attached to the desk used to type on using USB mode, gain set at 45%
- Samson Q9U dynamic mic mounted on a boom arm attached to the desk used to type on using USB mode, gain set at 45%
- Google Pixel 7 Pro mounted on a gooseneck mount not connected to the desk used to type on
- The Samson Q2U, Samson Q9U, Rode NT1 5th Gen, and AT2020 are in some way attached to the typing desk. The Pixel 6a and the Lewitt 040 mics are not
- Lewitt and phone 15 cm away from the top of the keycaps (rough distance between my ears and the keycaps when measured directly vertically)
- All other mics 15 cm away diagonal from the top of the keycaps to my ears (thanks for the tip, Ray)
- No windscreens or pop filters are attached to any of the mics

This is why I subscribe to your channel. One of the most underrated keyboard channels out there. Almost 2 hours of sound tests is insane, in a good way. The mods section flies by in an instant.
Thank you my friend! I actually didn't realize just how long the video would be until I started editing everything together.
It posed its own challenges (or maybe it's mostly me being sleepy when rendering and doing a final look over before uploading) such as not catching a few errors, and I wanted to rush this vid out a bit due to the interest in the board so I kept some of the "not so great" audio clips that had my neighbor mowing and other unwanted background sounds, but I'm happy with the end product.
I've been slowly working on the updated ABS Keycap video (just need to wait for the WS Akuamarin Keycap set to fulfill to finalize it) and a few others, so I'll definitely put what I learned making this video to good use.

Why did this get reuploaded?
It turned out that there was a 30 second chunk of dead air without any audio for one of the MMFranken sound tests (I wonder if I accidentally deleted it) for the NT1 mic!
But... Even though I repeatedly went over the entire thing again and again (as well as the whole part), I missed it.
I also missed moving the Monkeytype window to the top right in the very last board config before the mods sound tests and forgot to lower the volume for the 10 second ending audio 😢.
I'll have to make sure to QC everything multiple times in the future, even if I've done so already to catch these small errors, but hey, I guess we live and we learn!
