Not every sound test will mimic what a keyboard sounds like in real life. I suggest listening to other sound tests and taking everything with a grain of salt.
I am not a professional, my room is not sound-treated, and a lot of my boom arms are attached to the desk that I am typing on.
I do not do sound tests to be as accurate as possible and portray what a board sounds like perfectly in real life. This is something I do for fun!
I hope that using different mics will illustrate that depending on your mic, you may catch higher/lower frequencies better than other mics, and some mics sound naturally “brighter” or “darker” than other mics, even without any filters or any sort of post-processing.
At the very least, you can compare configs that sound louder/higher pitched and which sound quieter or more muted.

      That's the config I'm currently rocking! BTW, would you rather have timestamps showing up on screen (currently) as chapters, yet not every timestamp shows OR no timestamps showing up on screen as chapters, yet every single timestamp is notated in the video description? I love chapters, but I always hit the max and if I go over, chapters won't show at all. But if I want chapters to show... I have to omit some timestamps and put them here in the comments section versus in the video description

    • @justanotherpxrson
      @justanotherpxrson วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@HubertTheMad I think what you should do is keep listing detailed timestamps in the description or in a comment, but then make the actual chapters more broad. In this video I was thinking you could make the chapters sorted by switch and then leave the keycap timestamps in the description and comment maybe?

    • @HubertTheMad
      @HubertTheMad วันที่ผ่านมา

      @justanotherpxrson I think that's best. I wish I could have all timestamps and chapters show up, but separating via switch is probably the best bet with longer chapters like you said. Imagine having this issue :sadpepe:

    • @justanotherpxrson
      @justanotherpxrson วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@HubertTheMad Honestly, navigating the chapters with them being so tiny is a pain so I use the timestamps anyways. I think this will make it easier.

Filmed everything at my friend's house with his camera, and we didn't realize until we had already wrapped up filming that the color balance was not right. Hi, I was just wondering how the Cherry on PP build sounded for you in person? I have mine built with MX Black on PP and the board just sounds so muted and not even close to your soundtest. I'm also running GMK by the way. Thanks for the video :D

    • @HubertTheMad
      @HubertTheMad 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@lllun4r Hello! Hmm, interesting... Did you film your mx blacks? If so, I dislike filming modern cherries because in my experience, hyperglides and the new MX2As get too muted, even with thin films

    • @lllun4r
      @lllun4r 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@HubertTheMad I did use swagkeys poron film on it, but that batch sounded fine on another board. Or could it be that I was running the PP build on a hotswap PCB?

    • @HubertTheMad
      @HubertTheMad 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @lllun4r It shouldn't be too big of a difference (hotswap vs solder) since only the plateless build was on a soldered PCB in my test, but I do wonder if it's just a case of the combination of PP plate (known for being on the deeper side of the plastic plates) along with poron switch films being a material that can make switches sound deep as well being too "strong" of a lower pitch combo for the kohaku. What build did you try the mx blacks on besides the kohaku?

    • @lllun4r
      @lllun4r 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@HubertTheMad Well that’s pretty interesting. I was under the impression that PP tends to lean on the louder side but maybe because I was running them on TKLs with mx blacks like the cloudline and cw88 as opposed to the kohaku with its poron gasket. Could be that the combination of everything I put in the build that dampens the sound too much for my likings. Also the batch of switch was built on my cloudline (alu top mount, and the switches were not mechanically broken in. Yeah I know it’s not a fair comparision). Thank you for the insights, that was very helpful.

    • @HubertTheMad
      @HubertTheMad 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @lllun4r For sure, there are a lot of factors when it comes to sound, mounting style definitely plays a part like you said as well as the size of the board (and so many other things), but I hope you find a config that you enjoy!

    Great video, with how many keyboards come out every year many of us (especially me lol) struggle with maintaining a healthy interest in the hobby. I like the point you made about things going wrong even if you do research, the number of people who have lost interest in the hobby after a terrible group buy experience is probably pretty high. Imo, the most fulfilling thing in the hobby is designing your own boards. It's not for everyone, and can get pricey fast, but getting a good prototype of something you designed is a feeling unparalleled.

      Thanks for the kind words! Haha, I agree. Sometimes, hobbies have a shelf life and/or breaks definitely have to be taken. Yeah, I feel for people that have had bad GB experiences, through no fault of their own... I'm looking forward to seeing how your prototype(s) turn out! I bet it's been a fun yet somewhat challenging process!

    first. Sound is subjective but to me I think the Green Marble sounds closer to a GMK then your typical pbt but its probably closer to a DCX ABS set then GMK. That would have been interesting, comparing DCX ABS vs DCX DS PBT. But honestly, its surprising how far pbt has come these days. I don't mind picking up a quality pbt set at all anymore. That being said, I think the CRP sounds the best followed closely by the DCD Hundred Acres (btw I bought a set + novelties for my wife after watching your review. She loves it).

I actually had forgotten how nice a Kohaku can be, but I also agree with liking a 60% more. Will cstm65 be good for gaming?

    • @HubertTheMad
      @HubertTheMad 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vagician5743 My opinion (not necessarily "correct", but it's what I believe) is that any board can be good for gaming for the most part, because "gaming keyboards" don't make as big of a difference than someone's skill level. You see hall effect touted as "the best for gaming", but for most people, we wouldn't be able to tell the difference/it doesn't make a difference. I won't say that it will NEVER make a difference, because that's talking in absolutes though. I never used the CSTM for gaming, but I think it would work fine just like many other boards as well

    your lewitt matched pencil condensers sounds the best in my opinion, it has the lowest noise floor so less background white noise. What audio interface are you using? I have a samson q9u on xlr to my volt1 and I get much less noise. I also have a MKE600 and a Se8 that I've been too lazy to setup but every time I listen to your soundtests, makes me realize that I really should lol. Awesome sound test btw. your PC jixte is my favorite but the purple jixte with the cherry reds sounds the best. LMK if you ever need to move your pc jixte 😁

    • @HubertTheMad
      @HubertTheMad 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed! The Lewitts (besides the VideoMic Go II on my camcorder) are the only mics that aren't in contact with my typing surface (desk) either. The rest are on boom arms attached to my typing desk. Yeah, my Q9U has been through the ringer, and every now and then, I hear some sussiness from it (it's been sent to Samson to refurb once already). I actually run it USB just like the Q2U (and the VMG II) because my audio interface (Audient Evo 8) has the Lewitts, Rode NT1, and AT2020 hooked up through it, so no more space haha. For real! Sometimes, it's a pain (even though it can be relatively quick) to set everything up, so sometimes I just use one or two mics instead of all of the ones at my disposal. All the mics except for the two Samsons, the Lewitts, and the VMGII are my neighbor's, so I borrow the NT1 and AT2020 from him whenever I want to record a longform sound test video 😁 Haha, for sure. I'm not usually a fan of PC boards, but this PC Jixte is pretty nice

    IMO, Keeping the same board and changing the mic makes it easier to tell how the board actually sounds. It gives a lot of different data points and I can kind of extrapolate how I think the board would sound IRL. On the other hand, keeping the mic constant and changing between boards makes it easier to compare the boards relative to one another. Since I can hear the boards back to back (w/ same mic) I can tell if one is deeper, harsher, thinner, ect. than the others. If I had to choose it would be the new format: mic constant, keyboards changing. For me, I really value the comparison between keyboards. If I know a certain board/switch/keycap combo has the "sound" I want, Then it's very valuable to hear how that sound profile stacks up against others with the same mic. That being said, I think having more than one mic is valuable since it allows hearing the board from different "angles". This Sometimes let's me pick up on details I would have missed with one mic if that makes sense? Anyway, regardless of what you decide, these videos are super helpful to me. I appreciate you putting in the considerable time to make these sound test available to everyone!

      Thanks for your detailed thoughts, Mark! I appreciate your comments as always, and I agree with your points. Honestly, I'm not in the content creation game to get views or subscribers, just as something fun to do and with the occasional opportunity to be useful to someone else. Because of the way I edit and put clips together, if I use one format, the other is basically "already done" for me, so all I have to do is to create a new timeline/video to use said format. Since that's the case... I'm just going to do both formats going forward whenever I release sound test videos! I figure people can pick and choose what they'd like and when. Hope all is well in your part of the world, and thanks again for your input!

    • @HubertTheMad
      @HubertTheMad 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WakaaYT I did not! But that is because I plan on having it cerakoted in the near future (dunno what color(s) or finishing yet though). Agreed, it can scratch/damage easily, which is my main concern. I have two raw boards and even placing it on the ground with an accidental tree branch scratched the back of it. If you want to keep the color itself, I'd look into clear coating options, or if you want a specific color, maybe cerakoting may also be a good option. Or, if you're super careful, I'm sure you can use it raw as well. If I had just kept it on my desk, I probably wouldn't have scratched it versus taking it outside for some pictures

      I'm almost done editing a review video for the PC (and aluminum) Jixtes and will have it completed by this weekend! You will have to build one by adding a PC case (frosted PC or black) and a weight combo (inner and external weight): paramountkeeb.com/products/type0-jixte-60-cnc-bakeneko-case-build-your-own-extras-weights-plates?variant=44454882476251 I say to wait for the next Paramountkeeb sale to get it 20-25% off (maybe during the Holidays like last year) though

There are some keycaps that do let light shine through and even the legends, however, it will be hard to get a correct size spacebar because this keyboard uses a spacebar size that isn't common. @HubertTheMad 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your question! Keep in mind, this is just MY opinion, and I can only talk about the US keycap market, so I don't know what brands are available in other parts of the world/what's readily accessible. Feel: I can't give a solid opinion regarding the feel of the keycaps. While I can definitely tell if a keycap manu has a suuuper rough keycap texture (like some Tai Hao keycaps) or a very smooth texture (super shined/worn GMK), none of these keycaps made me think "oh wow, this is super smooth" or "dang, the texture of these is insane!" New GMK sets do have some noticeable texture to them, but feel in terms of keycaps is not important to me, so I don't really pay attention to texture (unless, again, it's blatantly obvious that one is smoother/rougher than others). Sound: I think that KKB and JTK sound very similar to GMK. More importantly, when typing at my usual speed and not spamming mods or the spacebar, it's very hard to tell between some of them. DMK sounds similar to GMK as well during normal typing, and because I type normally 99% of the time and mod spam/spacebar spam infrequently when using my keycaps, mod spam is fun to do and it's fun to notice the differences when doing so, but actual typing is where the different brands are super similar. Except for DCS of course. Due to DCS being much thinner than the others, it's much more higher pitched. But normal typing? JTK/KKB/DMK sound pretty dang close to GMK! The Lewitt Mics ONLY vid may be more useful to determine the differences (still can't get past the KBCompare errors, but I'll keep trying. I think using KBCompare is the best way to differentiate between keycap sounds). Aesthetics/Looks: This category is similar to feel. Unless the legending is horrible, or the font is irregular (the B being more bold than the U for example, or the placement of fonts are inconsistent), generally, I'm OK. Now, would I pay $100 for crappy legending? No, but I rarely spend that much anyways (more on that when I talk about price below). The keycaps that I enjoyed besides GMK when it came to legending and font were KKB and JTK, but it's not like the rest were significantly worse. I wasn't a fan of how the font on Mode keycaps were like, or the mods for the Shurikey keycaps, but again, I don't expect GMK-level quality of legending or consistency from a $30 keycap set (Shurikey), and I think Mode just chose to use that font on purpose. Price: This is where things have changed drastically. A few years ago, it was difficult for BNIB GMK to be $35-$80 shipped. NOW? It's very common. Of course, not all colorways will be $35-$80 shipped, but the the US aftermarket for GMK and vendors running sales for GMK quite frequently is great for us buyers. It's definitely a buyer's market right now. I love GMK, so it's hard for me to spend $80 shipped on a non-GMK set when I could get a GMK set for as much, if not cheaper brand new. If it's a project that I want to support (like KKB JIndo, KKB Skidata Neo, a JTK colorway, and so on), then I have no issues spending $80 shipped or a bit more. But outside of those? Due to the ease of which I can get GMK for $35-$80 shipped, and because I personally am not super picky when it comes to colorways, non-GMK offerings don't intrigue me as much. That doesn't mean that every build I use will sound the best when I use GMK though. There are some builds that really shine with DMK, especially the spacebar (my Cycle7 comes to mind), DCS for plateless cherry mx browns, and so on. But generally, I'm happy with the fact that GMK goes on sale quite often and it's easy to nab GMK at much cheaper prices than before, so I don't really bother buying other keycaps, even if I know that GMK may not be the perfect keycap selection for every board sound (or looks) wise!

      @HubertTheMad 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ziqoxd For me, I really liked how the PP (and POM for the Glare TKL) plate made the Geon Black liners sound, BUT, I've never tried plateless on either Glare, so maybe, plateless would also sound equally as good! I would say if you have it plateless and already enjoy it, no need to try PP or any other plate (since, in the end, what's most important is that you enjoy it). I've had many boards where I really liked the sound of my plateless config and other boards where a plate sounded better, so it's always dependent on the board itself and the switches used!
