Mike pondsmith made cyberpunk in 1988 as a tabletop rpg, similar to DnD, but back then it was known as cyberpunk 2020

There are no spoilers below. This adds context to the episodes:
So to add some background. In the beginning, david is using a Braindance wreath and he's replaying a XBD (Extreme Brain Dance). Think VR head-set but you're able to view and experience someone's memories as if they were you own. The Sandevistan implant that david now has is the same one from that person (Coloneel Norris) and his mom who is a City EMT employee jacked it. In this world, the US as it is today suffered economical collapse and Night City is considered "Indepedent" It's why the currency is "Eddies" which is street slang for "Euro-Dollars"
The People who leave david and his mom on the crash are known as "Trauma Team" - a private medical team designed for combat extraction of paying clients. They are not part of the city's EMT system so their 1 and only goal is safe extraction and treatment of policy holders. Gloria, even though she is EMT has the cheapest medical plan possible. She does not necessarily from wounds but because her treatment plan doesn't include certain life-saving treatments that would have saved her life.
The setting is 2076 (1 year before the game's events and this anime is canon to the game) and Night City is set in what is currently Morro Bay in California. It is a Private city in that it is run, funded privately by companies thus making it a setting for capitalism taken to the extreme.
Night City was designed to have various world cultures in 1 city (kind of like Epcot Center in Disney World). It is why you have companies like Arasaka (japanese), David (who is Latino i origin).
Edgerunners aren't criminals per se. Given the fact that the police are underfunded, over-worked, outnumbered, and as you can see likely to die while simply parked, Edgerunners are kinda like a mercenary class. Their alignment as good or bad is only based on the jobs they do. As long as you got the eddies to pay for their services, you can get a runner to do a job be it bodyguard duty, corporate espionage, rescue, or simply doing a job to make money.

I am really impressed by how well you figured out what's going on without any prior knowledge of the setting. (Some other reactors did a lot worse, including a channel where they misunderstood what was going on so badly that their reaction videos turned into unintentional comedy. :) ) I recently watched the series myself (several years after playing the game) and really liked it, so now I am looking for reactions, and it's really interesting to see the thoughts of people who aren't familiar with the setting.
Yeah I really like these sorts of universes! Also since I’ve watched this anime I bought the game and got super into it hahahah now I’m obsessed 😍 I’m on my second play through of the game at the moment 🤣

03:05 That was a Braindance (BD) which is a piece of tech that allows users to experience a recording of someone else's physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts.
07:40 Yeah he was pushing Exotic Braindances (XBDs) which are black-market BDs, typically recordings of bizarre fetishes or snuff films. Nasty stuff.
13:40 The tabletop rulebook has an entire section on cyberpunk slang, you should check it out :) Choom=Friend, Gonk=Idiot, Eddies=Eurodollars,cash. etc.
14:52 Yep, you need immunosuppressants for cyberware, especially military-grade stuff like that spine implant. It helps stop the body's process of rejecting implants.

It’s Northern California to be specific. In the Cyberpunk universe an earthquake destroyed LA in the 90’s. In fact a series of climate disasters and wars have changed most of the world, so its nothing like the world we know.
