That Vader scene at the end never gets old
@SmokersStaircase the red saber lighting up is a great moment and it returns him to the BMF he should have been after E3 turned him into a whining little b#tch☺️
@@d.w.strangeman4963 I wouldn't call him that lol. He suffered through many things since birth. His origins are the tragedy that the monster was born from. Thats just my opinion though I know not everyone feels the same.
@@SmokersStaircase I get that and agree but in the original films he's supposed to be feared and all powerful. E3 doesn't really show that. His downfall should have come from his own arrogance, which it sort of does but Obi Wan still manages to go toe to toe with him and win which makes him less imposing. Don't really mean to call Vader that I was just disappointed with the way way it happened. And just to be controversial, if it wasn't for nostalgia, this would be my favourite one🤫👊
That's the Real peak Vader! Not the weaksauce Vader from Obi-wan. Disregarding Legends again...
@@d.w.strangeman4963only controversial for popcorn eaters.
Obi-wan shouldn't just go there and defeat peak jedi hunter Vader át that point.
It's against common sense and Legends.
But why would they even care after ep8...
I will *never* forget the first time I realized they were all going to die, even the robot.
9:12 Because the actor is long dead
Lost to us, but not forgotten.
@@dondumitru7093 never forgotten
Died in '94
Right, the great Peter Cushing, star of so many Hammer horror movies in the 1960s and 1970s.
Tarkin and Leia were done the same way - overlaying a CGI mapping of the original performer's face over another performer. The reason it is so much harder to recognize on Leia is because the actress they mapped her face onto was much closer in facial structure to Carrie Fisher than the actor for Tarkin was to Peter Cushing (the original actor - the bone structure of his face is much more unique in Hollywood than that of Carrie Fisher). Also, because Carrie Fisher had the bulk of her acting career more recent than that of Peter Cushing (Star Wars was near the end of his lengthy acting career), they had higher quality images to use to construct the CGI overlay
I wish they had done a better job on Leia. She doesn't look real at all. Tarkin, on the other hand, was really convincing. Almost felt like Peter Cushing was still with us
@@kylethompson3008 The actor that played Tarkin in Rogue One, Guy Henry, did a brilliant job of resurrecting one of the best British actors in film history, I thought.
@@user-jg5ie8rc1s I agree. Watching all the behind the scenes stuff for the movie was entertaining. He really committed to the role
I heard Carrie's daughter was the model.
Eh. Id say they look about the same. Tarkin just has more lines so its easier to notice the uncanny valley and focus in on it
For me, this is one of the best SW films ever. The whole film is incredible, and the last 15 minutes a brutal rollercoaster (Vader´s rage at the end it´s savage).
Idk about best ever but it’s definitely up there it’s good no doubt!
Easily the best Disney movie, and the only one I actually consider cannon
The Andor series would do be worth your time! Truly phenomenal. It plays out mostly in arcs too, so you could do reactions like mini movies 💖
Absolutely. The best thing named Star Wars since...forever
Far-and-away the best thing Disney has ever done with Star Wars.
Best Star Wars movie Disney has put out. There’s a lot of reference to the OT without feeling too odd and the overall tone is well done and different enough from the “Episode” movies to make it unique.
9:05 "Why does Tarkin have a CGI face?"
Because the last time you saw him was in a movie released in 1977, 39 years before Rogue One was released.
Peter Cushing, the actor, was 64 years old when he made that move and would be 103 in this movie, but alas, he died in 1994.
RIP.
Rogue One is a great movie. The last scene with Darth Vader shows how terrifying he really was. The original trilogy didn't fully show how savage and powerful he ended up becoming. Also the Obi Wan Kenobi series shows a couple badass moments with Vader. I recommend you watch that series too.
"I will trust her with my life" He´s Bail Organa, the man who adopted Leia in Episode III (also appeared in the previous episode). He was married with Breha Organa, Alderaan´s Queen, that´s why Leia it´s the "princess" Leia Organa.
It's been a while since I watched Rogue One and I'd forgotten what a great film it was! Thanks for the vid! As always, the best way to watch a movie is with IcedQuokka! 😊
You’re so sweet! 🥹🤍 hope you enjoy it!
Mon Mothma, the leader of the rebellion who you first saw during the rebel briefing in Return of The Jedi. That actress was replaced here, but this actress is now Mon Mothma, in one of the prequels, and in a bigger role in the Andor TV series. Some of the members of Rogue One also appear in Andor. Unused footage of the Rebel pilots attacking the Death Star in A New Hope, who died in the Death Star Trench. The original actors are here as Red and Gold Squadron. The original Red 5 is killed here, so when Luke joins Red Squadron in A New Hope he is designated as the new Red 5. In tribute to Rogue One, Luke’s squadron attacking the Imperial Walkers on the ice planet of Hoth in the Empire Strikes Back is Rogue Squadron. Leia is brought back to life like Tarkin. Vader at his horrific best, but there are more of him that way ….can’t tell you without spoiling too much….
And the Ahsoka series.
The alien with balls on his chin is nicknamed Walrus Man. He appeared in A New Hope in the cantina. He didn’t like Luke for whatever reason and his buddy there was the one who lost an arm. It looks like that may have been edited to look less gruesome. I would think that he actually died in the cantina.
!
Rogue Squadron is also in RotJ. A happy coincidence that became canon was that this is the only Rogue One to ever use the call-sign, after this it is always Rogue Leader followed by Rogue Two.
I watched Rogue One in the theaters the day that Carrie Fisher died. The ending, seeing Leia - even with the imperfections of the CGI at the time, got me in the feels. The body stand in for Carrie was Ingvild Delia, a Norwegian actress.
Moff Tarkin has a CGI face because Peter Cushing (the actor who plays him) died years ago
Ball -Chin Guy (Ponda Baba) & the other guy (Dr. Cornelius Evazan) are the characters from the Cantina in the OG Star Wars. The ones that mess with Luke and one gets his arm lopped off.
It was also good in this movie how we learn how the Weakness got built into the Death Star. It also showed why on the crawl it said the plans were gotten in a costly battle. It also showed with Darth Vader being angry trying to get the plans. That is why in Episode IV Darth Vader was so angry he knew that Princess Leia had got the plans.
Yeah. Inside job is a much better explanation than somebody gave a no-bid contract to his cousin's company which couldn't be bothered to stick a grate over the exhaust port.
The Vader scene at the end never gets old. Kind of like the younglings...
I watched it in theaters ❤and you could see everyone breaking down and crying in many different parts. It was cute how my sons always try to play tough, but you know it saddened us all in so many moments. Great stand alone film and it has stood the test of time. We are blessed now to have the Andor series, so we can watch a bit more of the story, before they finally give it all on the battlefield ❤😢
4:54 you can choose to look at it as he was panicked and, because of his injury, would surely be captured. So Cassian calmed him and gave him the most peaceful death left on the table for him as an act of mercy.
Carrie Fisher died right before this movie released. Like less than a week before. There was an audible gasp in the theater when she showed up at the end.
This was the first live action star wars movie to ever make people feel like this was a legitimate war. Especially in theaters, you felt like you were on the beach with the rebels being shot at.
It's a credit to the directing that made people feel that way. There's not really any fancy directing or cinematography in this movie, it's shot very matter a fact. But the benefit of that style is that you feel like you're there, that you're in the streets, that your in the bunker, that you're in the ship. The shot where they're on Jeddha and it pans up to see the Star Destroyer hovering above the city makes you feel the size and scale of this thing, like you're seeing it for the first time. Nevermind the shot of the Death Star coming up over the horizon
It's a style of filmmaking that I think really works for this world specifically because any Star Wars fan will tell you, we want to feel like we're in a galaxy far, far away
Great movie. If you queue up ANH to start right after the scroll, watching a few minutes of it is always fun. 😁
Watch the Andor series and you'll see him, Saw. Melshi and Mon Mothra again, as well as possibly others. No, Vader is that dark. We just did not see it fully in the first movies. By the time of Empire, he had become more controlled and subtle
One of my favorite viewing moments in the entire Star Wars series was the end of this movie with the escape from Vader leading right into episode IV. Pretty cool.
I grew up with Star Wars, I loved the original trilogy and like most fans for many years I thought Empire was the best, then this came along. If it's not THE best, it ties Empire.
The reason they didn't blow up the planet was a plot necessity because in A New Hope they had not blown up any planets yet, so in this one they couldn't.
The line "We need a statement, not a manifesto." did a great job in my opinion of explaining that set of events. Cool thing to say, and perfect for a character like Tarkin.
You wondered why 'Tarkin' has a cgi face. The actor, Peter Cushing, who originated the character has been dead for 30 years.
Somebody said "Let's take the opening crawl from A Nnew Hope, and make a movie out of that." I am so glad they did. By far, by far the best Star Wars movie ever!
There is a line uttered by Mon Motha in Return of the Jedi, “Many Bothans died to bring us the information,” when referring to the Death Star II actually becomes the inspiration for the story of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Then in the opening crawl of Star Wars, this is also lifted to serve a basis for the story: It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.
Rogue One’s ending perfectly segues into Star Wars. You can literally play the movie afterwards.
Both Peter Cushing’s and Carrie Fisher’s parts were CGI on other performers as Cushing passed away in 1994 (the production had to obtain permission from his estate) and Fisher would obviously need a stand in, though she sadly passed away not long after the film’s release.
Darth Vader’s melee with the Rebels in this film just shows how terrifying he truly is.
Finally, Cassian does live on in the series, Andor. It is some of the best ever writing done for television let alone Star Wars. Highly recommended.
Why does no reactor remember chin balls and his friend from A New Hope 😂
I've seen reactors notice it. But many don't
@@briansview2886 I haven't
I saw one reactor notice. I think it's a pretty cool addition to the film.
@@samuelritchie5483 Same
Because they are all fake and just pretend to like SW for clicks. Didn't even recognize Bail.
This movie is good because it "Feels like Star Wars" and thats rare now days
“Why does he have a CGI face?”
Probably because he died several decades ago.
Don't know why you have to be a smart-ass about it. She asked a simple question.
@@ChrisReise I should have put a smiling goofy laughing face emoji 🤣
Great reaction video! Rogue One is a wonderful film and a true heartbreaker, showing us how far our Rebel heroes had to go and how much they had to sacrifice just to give the Rebellion a fighting chance.
Best Disney Star Wars film, one of the best endings to a Star Wars film powerful hit in the 3rd act when the gang perish but that Vader and Leia bit is the icing on the cake
Love your genuine reactions to Star Wars. Please keep reacting. 👍🏾
i love the actors in this film :) and i really love the review and love the reaction videos too :)
The ones that have come out since the original series that really give you the sense of true Star Wars would be Rogue One. A close second would be the mini series Andor. If you liked Cassian Andors character it's a great background to this one.
Tarkin has a cgi face because the original actor died prior to the creation of rogue one
This is my favorite modern Star Wars, maybe my favorite period. Glad you enjoyed it.
Cassian's accent? The actor, Diego Luna is Mexican, so he is a Native Spanish Speaker.
11:20 If you ignore the first "note" of the girl crying, she is crying the theme to the Flintstones.
So glad that you enjoyed this one, Quokka. The fact that you actually shed tears for the Rogue One crew really shows how good this movie is.
Plus, the actors that portrayed Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia had their appearances digitally placed with CGI faces of the original actors since the original actors have passed away. The actress that played Leia was her daughter, Billie Lourd, with permission from the Fisher family.
So, now, we have come to the point of no return, Master Quokka. Time for the Sequel Trilogy. Go into these with an open mind and ignore the haters on these films. Enjoy, and may the Force be with you!
You have your wires badly crossed.
The motion capture for Princess Leia in Rogue One was done by Invild Deila because Carrie Fisher wasn't 21 anymore. Fisher died a few weeks before the premiere.
Billie Lourd appears in all three sequel films as Lt. Connix. Made after her death, the Fisher family agreed to the use of old footage of Carrie being used in Rise of Skywalker, and Billie stood in for her in one or two scenes where her face was replaced with her mother's.
they should've done a tv show about jyn erso's upbringing. its one thing to fight for the alliance, but an extremist faction is a whole other level.
and here ends your SW journey :D
Moff Tarkin and Leia were both CGI because Tarkin's actor died and Carrie Fisher was alive when it came out (died like 2 weeks after) but she was too old
Welcome back Quokka! Hope you had a lovely holiday ❤
I'm in my 50's and so, for my life, like most of my generation, 'Empire' was always the best Star Wars movie. We all balked when the second trilogy came out and, although over time I can say that they're good, 'Empire' was still the apex movie. And then I saw this. Genius.
Awesome reaction video, maybe the best I've seen really and I've watched as many as I can find on TH-cam. You followed the fog of war beginning of Rogue One, which was shot to be intentionally confusing because that's what war is really like... never knowing exactly who is what, who is who or why. I think you understood it better than I did on the first viewing because I've watched this film probably 50 times and didn't reach the point of sobbing until maybe my 3rd or 4th time watching it and spent many more viewings catching things I hadn't noticed before. It truly is one of the best of the best Star Wars films of all time. Only The Empire Strikes Back is maybe better because it set the standard, raised the bar and made the Star Wars universe an unstoppable force by surpassing the box office and fan success of the original. I could gush all day long about how much I love this film and how it brought Star Wars back to life for me... an old man who was 11 years old in 1977 when the original film amazed me and changed my life forever.
Crikey - Vader put a shrimp on the barbie!
My step-daughter worked for Lucasfilm just when this was finished and she got to see it before it was released. When they showed it to the employees of Lucasfilm they did have a crawl. They used the crawl from A New Hope but froze it when it mentions the rebels stealing of the Death Star plans and then says "This is their story." I was disappointed that they didn't keep that in but it probably was too humorous for the tone of this movie.
New here, but great reaction. This is my favorite of Disney era SW, in addition to the Andor series, also by the same team lead by Tony Gilroy. It is so wonderful to see young people engage with and enjoy these films and this fictional universe. I think it goes to show that so many of the themes are universal. Also appreciate the several minutes of reflection on the film and how it ties in to the universe and other films as a whole. You made some excellent connections with characters or plot points in other films, stuff that I think many other reactors miss. Cheers!
Whatever else people want to say about Disney Star Wars, Disney Vader is freaking terrifying
The death troopers I think are the only stormtroopers who actually get kills lol
This reaction has convinced me to sub :D
You now owe yourself a watch of Andor. And just watch it for yourself. It’s so good. Great reaction!
IV was the original and will always be the Best for that, but Rogue One is the best story/movie in the Star Wars universe
Them not putting an opening crawl in is weird. Some Star Wars video games have them, so why not the movies?
Unfortunately Cassian had to kill that guy. He had a loose mouth and would've exposed everything.
There's multiple Rebels references in this. Saw being an extremist, Chopper (the droid shown in the rebel base), the name Syndulla being mentioned (Hera Syndulla), the main ship in Rebels being shown: the Ghost.
I don't know how people can tell Tarkin was CGI. I couldn't tell.
The face that a "single reactor ignition" was that powerful is scary.
Galen Erso knew the Empire would build the station anyway, so he decided to work on it anyway just so he could have a chance to thwart their plans.
Some people say the "be careful not to *choke* on your aspirations" line was corny, but I think it fits Anakin's/Vader's personality perfectly. He was always sarcastic, always savage.
The ending was a lot of things. Sad with the music and everybody dying, happy knowing they got the plans which leads into ANH, but also nightmare fuel with Vader *standing there...menacingly*
I like how the trend is like, 'Doctor reacts to medical movie' or 'musician reacts to musical movie' and now we have reached just 'person who lives in Australia reacts'.
It's not like it matters, I'm not upset over it or anything, I'm just saying I think you missed the point of the naming convention people do of putting things in their video titles that are like 'Pilot Reacts to Snakes on a Plane' is that the thing you define yourself as in the title, is somehow related to the movie. Even if it was 'Fantasy Nerd Reacts to Star Wars' it tells you they are more used to fantasy not Sci Fi so this is more of a new experience for them.
In your case, the thing you are defining yourself as in the title is just 'Australian' which has no meaning or purpose. You can just say 'Reacting to Rogue One'. Doesn't have to be 'Australian Reacts'.
??? It’s not hurting anyone so who cares? A lot of people click on the video because they like the Aussie accent if I didn’t put it in the title less people would be interested in watching
Now You MUST watch Andor series, there is only one season so far but it's the best.. keep rocking and stay safe!
thanks for the great reactions! I just spent the entire day watching your star wars playlist. new sub for sure! Really excited for you to start the the animated series and maybe the disney shows (if we are lucky!). My only advice is to keep going even when it begins to burn a little slow. Star wars fans can be very vocal especially about the new stuff but it all ties very nicely into the timeline and everything put out by disney is worth a watch as far as the canon material is concerned.
The Vadar scene. It's speculated he was using the force to keep it closed and not a random malfunction. I can see that being the case.
Note the door opens when Vader wants to advance
@@bemasaberwyn55 Excellent point. I didn't think of that. So yeah, had to be Vadar keeping that door closed.
You are one of the few reactors I've seen who actually understood the reference to Liea when Bail Organa said "I trust her with my life.'
all support and love from me AKA DAHA 🥰from the real Tatooine
You did an EXCELLENT JOB!!!🎉🍾🎆
This movie hits a lot differently after watching Andor.
Did you notice that Red 5 was the X-Wing that slammed into the shield gate, thereby making that call sign available for Luke at the end of Star Wars?
Ah, Star Wars done right. Disney made a mistake giving us this quality to start.
Also when Rebel fleet jumps in beneath the CV90 corvette (Tantive IV like / Leia's ship class vessel) you can spot the Ghost owned by Hera Syndulla (you will learn about her in Rebels and Ahsoka later. Ship is also partially visible behind ship they used befopre taking Rogue One, on Rebel base landing strip. there is as well Brown Orange droid called C1-10P (Chopper) from the Rebels is in hangar passing by.
It's funny, so many people complain about the CGI Tarkin. But I thought it was good. I didn't like the CGI Leia.
Why is Tarkin CGI? Because A New Hope was released in 1977, and Peter Cushing who played him has long been dead?
It's never really been confirmed, but I think the blind monk is on the lower end of being "force sensitive". While the strongest force sensitives can use the force and bend it to their will, the weakest of them are only able to sense it in others and enhance their own senses using the force. There are several examples of such low level force sensitives in pre-Disney Star Wars. This would explain his unusual combat prowess.
Had Galen been the only one shot, and all the other scientists spared, the death star's secret weakness would still have been secret. I don't think any of the other scientists knew about it.
There were Easter eggs you missed but that’s not your fault. They are for shows you haven’t seen yet. The code names of Imperial projects were the eggs. If you end up watching the shows later, maybe rewatch this for the eggs.
I am as excited as you for the sequel trilogy. I am curious whether you will get attached to those characters or not.
I loved your cosplay Spider-Woman costume by the way.
Cheers mate! 🍺😉💕
I hope you'll someday react to the ANDOR tv series. 💎 Watch them in chunks of three (as they are loosely structured that way). By the end of Season 2 it'll be like eight movies with ROGUE ONE as the epilogue.
You haven't heard of that thing called C.G.I? :) That is how they got Leia.
Everyone dies. It's like Last of the Mohicans but in space.
I’ve also seen it compared to Reach
Really enjoyed your review is great thank you
great reaction from you.
You should rewatch the original trilogy on your own time, maybe just binge them in one day, before heading into the sequel trilogy. Just to refresh your memory and see how it all fits together now that you have the context from the prequels.
Best star wars film.
Team Jedi forever ✌🏽💯
May the force be with you
The Director of this movie, Gareth Edwards also made the two of the best martial arts movies of all-time IMHO. They are BRUTAL. The Raid Redemption (sometimes just called The Raid) and it's sequel The Raid 2, are a masterclass in martial arts entertainment. Most martial arts movies I've seen, need to twist and bend the story around the fights sequences, but these feel totally natural and authentic.
On Star Wars, I'd suggest checking out the various TV shows. They are done by different teams at Disney, so you really need to judge each one on it's own merrits. Personally, I enjoyed Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan. Andor is well rated. I was the perfect target audience for Star Wars back in 1977, being a 4yr old boy. I was one of many who kept with Star Wars, after the hype had moved onto other things. For me, Star Wars was all about the Expanded Universe novels (now called Legends). It filled in the bigger tapestry of events surrounding the characters in the movies. These feel like expanded universe shows. Disney have made quite a few decisions since buying the franchise, that change Star Wars in stange ways, so you do need to sort through the wheat from the chaff.
Probably shouldn't have looked into the time line kinda would have blown the ending also Peter Cushing who played Grand Moff Tarkin in A New Hope passed away in 1994 so they were kind of forced to use CGI lol
30:00
But where were the bothans we were told about in a new hope ?
Time to watch the Andor series.
Since new material is made all over the timeline, don't worry that you'll never see them again.
In the movie time it is about just hours. So if you watch Rouge One and New Hope it becomes one long movie.
You should watch the Kenobi series to understand why Darth Vader is in there.
Great reaction as always! You should definitely check out the Obi Wan Kenobi show
Awesome movie
you need to watch andor!
Awww yis!
Now you can watch the spoofs/comedys of star wars:
Spaceballs.
Family guy starwars trilogy
Robot chicken did a star wars trilogy.
And the original spoof hardware wars from 1978. Days of laugher to be had watching that.
Yeah sure about Chirrut's blindness, that being such a devot guardian in the temple and being blind while not making him a force user, but the force definitely speaks to him and he knows how to listen, guiding him,
but you have be aware he's like a combination of Donnie's own Chinese martial arts hybridized with an insane and legendary Japanese samurai series known as "Zatoichi"
a blind ex Yakuza and gambler turned masseuse, fighting his way for justice through Edo period
towns across the country, and Donnie Yen based his John Wick 4 character even more so on this,
kung fu of Donnie combined with Zatoichi as a blind, sword wielding character...
So its more about attuned other senses from blindness
Check em both out sometime...
I love Rogue One l watch this movie all the time so happy your finally watching it best and only star wars movie Disney ever made 😁
love your reaction! and i hope you can watch the Andor Series, are really good
Sadly, the description you've read is a spoiler. This was all meant to be a surprise, oh well ...
CGI Carrie Fisher
They weren't balls on his chin.
You're just projecting.
I feel very little pity for Lira. She went on a mentally void suicide mission, abandoning her small child to a mentally unfit warlord.
For why?
Reasons…
