That’s what I want to be able to do…..cut someone off….they do exhaust you…..always needy….I made a boundary and that didn’t work….I finally lost my temper and told her why I didn’t want to spend time with her anymore and it came back to bite me because she went crying to my family and friends making me the bad guy because I said enough is enough….now I have lost some friendships who felt sorry for her not even asking me what I really said…..so mad….made me the scapegoat…..I have kept silent through all of this and now she acts like everything is ok and she can start up the friendship again! Thanks for your information….I will stand strong….

Support from a therapist is good advice. Many people cannot understand everything. I cut people who are not genuine. Nevertheless being upfront with people it is quite important. Instead of practicing ghosting

I have a family member like this. She doesnt respect boundaries either. Main reason why I havent blocked her is because she has my nephew. She has also been toxic and abusive in the past. Its a hard a situation.

I just found this video, it's so helpful and I could have absolutely used this when I was younger. I wonder if this 23 year old friend was a family friend or if they met at work. I mention because you're so right that the age difference is odd and alarming but all the times I had experiences like this it was someone I had met at work, they were a friend of a family member/friend and because I was around them I got to know the person and as clingy people do. They kept inviting me places, calling me, etc. outside of who and how we met so it slid into a friendship. Then no one in your family really questions it because the person is seen as familiar.
Your insights really helped me reflect on those situations differently. I did cut all of them off eventually but LAWD the way they performed. It's a sticky situation because to your point they are manipulative and playing on the kindness of the person. Reflecting on my experiences, you're so right the reason for an older woman wanting to be friends with a younger woman is it's easier to manipulate them. For me, I used to feel for these women. I was in my early 20's in college, had other things going on, we worked at the same place and usually I was in a higher job then them so I felt like it would be wrong to ignore them/not acknowledge them/reject their invites. I think they used that to their advantage and maybe that's what's happening to the young woman in the video. Your advice was so helpful. Thank you.

This is exactly how I ended up friends with my now ex bf. Started off as co workers but being clingy called me everyday, invited me everywhere. So it turned into a friendship. I was younger than her, a new mom, and dealing with relationship problems. Her being older than me and more experienced in all those categories, helped me. So I felt a sense of loyalty to her. Although on the other hand very negative, 2 faced, talked about all her friends, was not the best mother, party girl, “boy crazy”, complainer, drama filled, financially irresponsible, etc. I realized I actually don’t enjoy being her friend because of those things.
It took time but when she showed her true colors I couldn’t see take it anymore and walked away from it . I’m trying to learn to not to feel guilty because it truly was a good decision but I can’t help feeling down about it

@@paigeyvonne6749 you can't hold yourself hostage/ feel like you owe someone your life because they helped you. She doesn't own you, it's okay to cut negative energy out of your life.

Clingy is not an issue as is a toxic friend. Changing your mindset about labeling a friend who has honest and sincere needs is humanity we need more compassion and a balance. Your friend may need you in her crisis, going through divorce, health issues, family issues, change of job, career changes, sickness, stop calling your friend "clingy and needy" change your mindset and stop being selfish and judgemental, people do authentically have needs that are out of their control.

Clingy can be an issue. Life happens to everyone and sadly it's no one's job but our own to get through our storm. I have friendships of 20+ years. I'm more than aware of how to be a friend and not once did I promote not being a good friend. I would imagine that a true friend would possess the qualities that you've mentioned. But there's a thin line between friendships and romantic relationships and sometimes people can't decipher between the two.

We are all responsible for our own lives. Some people don’t understand that others are not responsible for their feelings, their happiness or peace. We all have issues in life and we can’t expect others to always be there for us to emotionally dump on. What if I’m going through something too?Am I supposed to ignore my needs to make this other person feel better? No. The op is rather immature in her assessment.
