Avasarala, Amos and the Roci are my top 3 characters. I’m so happy you didn’t have to wait to watch the next season, I think I watched the next two episodes the same day 😂
Nice to hear you're attached to all the core characters. This show does a great job of introducing at least one new character each season that you'll (hopefully!) come to love. I like them all so much that I don't have one favorite. But I do have a Top Five. As for weighing in about Amos, all I'll say is you're noticing the right things. Amos' characterization is a prime example of "show don't tell" when it's well done in storytelling. It's so fun to revisit this show and see all the little ways they painted his character. Not that they don't do the same with others. But he's such an enigma from the start of the show. So even the tiniest bit of insight they provide stands out.
This show itself is so interesting because it’s very much not formulaic. It is successfully episodic while telling a huge overarching narrative. It still feels like we’re just getting started. Love it.
FUN FACT: Miller wasn't supposed to be retching that much in the Arcade, but Thomas Jane enjoyed it so much they let him go to town. I can imagine Steven got a bit annoyed after a while! LOL
13:15 miller saying "we're just meat for the machine" is a nice touch. the book says at one point that CPM, the name of the Eros cops' security company, is short for this in Belter Creole ("carne por la machina")
Also, he re-uses some phrases from the first episode that were tossed at him: "When the blood is on the wall". It made me realize how much his character has changed perspective.
@@ZakhadWOW it’s derived from Spanish but the spelling is not quite the same. the Belter Creole in the books is not nearly as well developed as the version they created for the show. the book version has a lot of Spanish influence, while the show version has a lot more languages mixed in

@@fakecubed yeah. They’ve said one thing they regret with book one, which only has Holden and Miller as POVs outside of the pro/epilogues is that they should have had her in that book also.
Amos might have agreed with Semi’s logic, but the second he pulled a gun on Naomi…it didn’t matter. Naomi’s his friend & part of his ‘family’ there is no choice in that scenario. ❤
I can't pick a favorite character in this show. I love them all. But yes Shohreh kills every scene she is in and steals the show. Also the guy Miller killed at the end is the one that stuck Havelock to the wall earlier in the season.
The first 3 seasons are a mash up of the first 3 books. So the book endings don't exactly line up the seasons. But it's beautifully merged. Glad to see you enjoying it
2:45 - A beautiful thing about this show is that - unlike a certain other show - this show doesn't let it's blue shit carrot dangle in front of you from season finale to season finale (just to eventually go nowhere with it). The answers will come and you will learn everything you want and need to know. And when that happens the show reveals even greater mysteries that will boggle your mind. The point will come where you'll sit (t)here and think "We started with four/five blue collar workers dragging ice from the outer solar system to the asteroid belt. How the blue glowing f**k did we end up here? (And how did the show create a plausible progression from there to here without stumbling over glaring plot holes anywhere?)
and across the entire series, the wardrobe for her is unmatched in any show Ive sever seen. The character is Indian of descent (see family name), but the actress is Persian ancestry, but makes it all so believable.,
Your excitement for this amazing series reignites my feelings for it. Feels like I'm watching it for the first time all over again. Chrisjen is awesome, and I agree, everyone is so well written and acted. Isn't it great to arrive at a series after completion so you can binge-watch?
The actor who plays Dr. Dresden, Daniel Kash, was one of the Marines in Aliens. However, much to Ty Franck’s (cocreator of the Expanse and huge Alien fan) dismay, he had no specific memories of being in the movie.
You have my favorite Expanse reactions that I have seen so far. And of all your TV reactions to date, the Expanse is my fave. There's a really interesting interaction between your natural enthusiasm and th shows elements of cynicism. Thank you for what you do here. Liked and shared.
Literally the best sci-fi in the last 20 years! I'm currently on my 6th re watch! Lucasfilm and Disney could learn alot from this production, the scripting, casting, acting, direction, editing, sfx cgi, the list goes on.Oh and the comparative miniscule budget.
Chrisjen is a top-tier character and she wasn't even in the first book but the material she has in this season is great! I always remember the actress in a small but memorable role in the series Flashforward.
there are several cases where the show writers had to create now story content to keep Shoreh (Avas.) and Frankie (Bobbie) under contract, since the characters werent actually present in several books. They did brillaint job of it.
Great Job Chris!!!!!!!!!!!!! Season One is a real favorite of mine because of all the mystery it sets up. Not knowing is a far more entertaining head space than knowing what's going on. RIP to Kenzo. Aka 'Baby Amos.' I am impressed that you didn't hate on him as much as distrusted him. Most reactors and viewers were pretty unforgiving to his character. He is after all the snitch who alerted the Hit Squad to Holden's location. Still, there are characters who will do far, far worse and they will be 'forgiven' by the viewer ship. But Baby Amos? Not so much. I refer to him as 'baby Amos' because the actor Elias Toufexis almost landed the part for Amos on the show. It was down to him and Wes Chatham. The producers made the right call. But they liked him so much they cast him in the show. And he makes an appearance later in the series.... let's see if you can spot where. Elias is an amazingly personable actor. He could charms diamonds off a rattlesnake. He made an video appearance on the stream of a French reactor, "I'm Lauara".... (?) and told her the story of how he almost landed the part of Amos. It's too early still for you to watch that episode but one day I hope you do. She's a pretty fun reactor as well. That girl can cry a river at the drop of a hat. It's so entertaining. Now that I know you're through Season 2 I am free to present my challenge to you... Did you figure out the connection between Miller and Julie and why she's been so inexplicably important to him throughout Season 1??? For me, it's the coolest bit of how The Expanse shows rather than tells. The reason really was worth telling. But they didn't. And I admit I didn't figure it out either. But the reason is perhaps the best unexamined bit of Science Fiction ever. I could say more but I will wait until ep. 6, Season 2 to pose the question again to see if you've figured it out. I'll give you a hint, the hint is in Episode 1 of Season 2. 50 bucks says you won't figure it out by the time I get to Ep. 6 in about 4 weeks. Awesome job as ever. Stargate SG-1 needs you.
I remember you saying you were going to do like an episode a week and now you're through season 2? LOL. The cast is so great and Avasarala is indeed a favorite along with Amos. Looking forward to your vids of the next season. Honestly I totally forgot about the dude that pinned Havalok to the wall. There's just so much going on, what he did doesn't even seem to matter, but if Miller sees a loose end, go ahead and tie it off...
lol I was always alternating 2 then 1- but o did speed things up a bit to make sure I could watch 2x4 & 5 together and finish season 2 before taking a week off for a special event. ;) the show is hard to put down though and I love the second season!!
You couldn't imagine waiting for an entire year between S1 and S2? Well, I couldn't either! That's why I went like Alex: "to hell with this television bullshit" and bought all the books right away 😁
I would for sure jump straight the books if I didn’t have more expanse to watch. I suspect I will once I complete the series. So I can complete the series 🤣
@@CasualNerdReactions Books are wastly different in some aspects but the overarching story goes in the same direction. Show and books are both great in their own rights. Definitely a must read.
I hope this is kosher but, I've borrowed a quote from another Expanse reactor comment that accurately sums up some things so far... "Julie abandoned her rich Earther father and went to the belt and hung out with belters, got involved with the OPA. Later she got the chip from the data broker, which contained the unregistered flight path of the Anubis from Phoebe to Eros. Julie must have known of her father’s business on Phoebe, if not the details, so she knew that this was something fishy. So she went to Dawes with the information, and they decided to intercept the Anubis. Fred provided them with a ship, the Scopuli, for the mission, though he probably didn’t know what that mission was about. After the tragedy of the Scopuli, Julie planted the OPA beacon, which Fred gave her, on the asteroid where she parked the Anubis, and tried to contact Dawes. Fred received the beacon signal. As for her messages for Dawes, he either didn’t get them or just ignored them. That’s it." That seems to just about cover it for those who still have questions. The show makes you piece things together from little snippets here and there. Well done show... but it does leave quite a few viewers with questions.
@@CasualNerdReactions you seem slightly slower and contemplative. Avasarala is a fantastic character. Love her gravely voice and how no nonsense she is.
The show's cast director particularly nailed the pick on the female characters
Leviathan Wakes is the name of the first book. The final episode of each season is named after their corresponding book.
Excellent idea to name the finale after the book!
FLorence Faivre ( Julie Mao) had so few scenes in the show for such a pivotal character, but she killed in every one
Great reaction.
To me Amos didn't take Naomis side, he agreed with Semi... but when he pulls a gun on Naomi, Amos reverts to prime directive!😂
