Amos grew up in an environment that had three times the gravity that Miller grew up in. His entire physiology reflects that difference in terms of bone density, lung capacity etc. Miller never did have a chance against him.
great reaction. Revealed several things I hadn't noticed before, in spite of watching the entire series all the way through about five times. Love your addition of your own subtitles when you're talking over a bit of dialog.
Since the Marines got their name from their amphibious way of fighting, the term "Martian Marine" is quite funny, since Mars has neither water nor naval ships.
You can euphemistically call the expanse (ha ha) of space an ocean, though, and a lot of sci-fi space military take the organisational form of a navy, with space 'ships' and a space 'fleet', so it's not so out there to call them marines, even if their maritime environment is only metaphorical.
Navy doesnt specifically refer to water, that's just where the concept originated. More accurately, Marines came from the British Navy - their shipboard fighting/boarding force, called something different since they weren't Army, and were in a "marine" environment. Also, it allowed the Sailors to focus in *their* work/functions. Pirates ended up being both Marines and sailors. It wasnt until much much later that they became a fighting force for assualting and securing beachheads in war.
I have a really bad habit of constantly singing, or humming, or adding my own percussion. I normally cut it out, because it doesn't add much, but sometimes I have to leave it in. 😅
Great reaction and analysis! The Expanse introduction to new characters is a thing of beauty! Amos isn't crazy, that's all I'm gonna say! The guy who was talking to Chrisjen that you said you like was Admiral Souther! Looking forward to the next one!
I am a big time Mars sympathizer. When Mars declares its independence in real life some decades from now, I will be supporting it. Love Bobbie. Loved the Donnager crew. There's some martian jerks to be sure, but they're pretty much always just reacting to Earth being a bunch of tyrants first.
If you watch the bit where Holden reaches over to shut off the cameras, you can see that the cameras were already turned off. The Roci's AI had already determined that they'd want privacy.
17:50 - You are still deep in the first book. You'll know though when the show concludes the first book and enters the second book over the course of the season
The Goliath power armour that Bobby and the other Martian marines have is easily one of the top sci-fi items I wish I could have for myself. It's just so cool!
There are people who dislike particular seasons of the show, but in my opinion it just keeps getting better. There are changes, of course, and people tend not to like change, but change allows for new stories to be told so the narrative isn't just spinning its wheels. I think it delivers great entertainment and great storytelling all the way through to its final scene.
So funny. The conflicts happening in the Solar System likely won't have much impact on "the galaxy," since the Milky Way has at least 100 *billion* solar systems. 😆 The dining room scene at the end is where this show displays some of its "Firefly" DNA. 🙂 The authors, Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham, have described The Expanse as "space-opera skinned as hard science fiction," and now you know why.
Look up a pic - it's the most bizarre object found (so far) in the solar system. For understanding scale keep in mind everything seen and mentioned so in this show is in our solar system. There are likely millions of solar systems in our galaxy.
Notice the casting is part of the world building. Mars would be settled by people from developed places affected by Global Climate change: Texans, Pacific Islanders, New Zealanders, etc. Great Reaction
I would start calling the alien substance the Protomolecule and not the bio weapon. At this point in the show we really don't know what it's original purpose was.
@@MattNolanCustom I agree. It's just that I'm so used to that trope being used for that purpose. Nobody ever shows the protagonist asleep in their bed, eyes twitching, before we enter the POV of the dream. So, there's always an element of teasing the audience, even in cases like this where they make it obvious pretty quickly that it's actually a dream.
I think part of is that Naomi talking about super powers is absolutely not something Naomi would say, but it is absolutely something Holden's subconscious would say
Chris, did you catch it? Did you catch it? The big Sci-Fi reveal that's shown but not told? You win the award for the Greatest TH-cam Reactor in the Universe if you catch it by episode 6. I have faith in you. ( Well, not really. It's a hard thing to spot. ) But I'm rooting for you. - Fun reaction. Bobby Drapper is awesome. Although she worried me to no end with all the Martian Gung Ho. I kept thinking she'll be a lit stick of dynamite to our guys.
Gunnery Sergeant Roberta Draper has entered the chat.
Gunny is here!!!
Gunny Bobble !
Bobby’s here!!! 😁 Whoever cast Frankie Adams as Bobby Dapper was a genius. Season 2, here we go!
Bobbie, by the way.

A lot of people don't warm to Draper until a few episodes in. Casual nerd is a good judge of character.
Watch out for those Doors and Corners
I'm wearing my Doors and Corners shirt today lol

"Amos is different....but he's not crazy, and he's not evil..."

In the books, there were a million Belta Loda on Eros.
This is a "quiet" episode but, dang it, it is packed with so many great little moments and scenes.
lol loved the bit with you singing along to your theme song at the very end

Depends on how you define “crazy.”
BOTH Ty Frank the writer AND Wes the actor say Amos IS a high-functioning sociopath.

If I had one of those suits, I'd declare independence from Earth too.
I’ve been wanting to finish this show. I’m still in season 1 😂
Now is the perfect time to continue!! It really loads up on jet fuel going into the second season. Amazing show.

GUNNY IS HERE
Yes, Alex is so to speak the mother hen of the Roci crew.
well, based on his service record heis quite notably older than the other members.
11:12 "yam seng" is derived from a Cantonese phrase that literally means "drink to victory"
The cheese: Star Helix officers, being mostly earthers longing for a taste of home, disappeared it themselves.. into their bellies. :D
Who doesn't like cheese?
So funny.

Funnily enough, Phoebe is an object formed in Kuiper's Belt (as far as we know) and captured by Saturn's gravity eons ago...

agree
Bobby Draper, the next fantastic female character... She is a truly wonderful character.
Amos makes perfect sense... if you remove emotions and other bullshit from the decision making.
The protomolecule is really extra solar.
lol, almost nobody is fooled by the dream sequence!
I don't think the point of it is to fool people for more than a second or two. I think the point is to emphasise Holden's trauma.

Bobbie by the way.
Just a heads up the first book ends about mid 2nd season
7:03 I've gotten like three queer women to watch this show just by showing them gifs of that scene
Bobbie
Yam seng = cheers ;)
10:42 no, he’s really not
