Well technically they already realised she was (the guards I mean) and I assume Caleb saw how she didn't have her mask on and was in more chains than everyone else, so being the smart cookie that he is he concluded that it would be best to just be honest.
Loved the scene of Beau making the demon's corpse mouth things while jester and fjord cackled, Molly just walked off disturbed, and nott pointed her knife at it thinking it was alive. All the whole with Caleb throwing up in the background.

It is unreal how every persuasion, intimidation, and deception check is a failure (when it matters) for an ENTIRE TEAM.
The team has no rizz. They completely suck at actually throwing their personality around. 🤣
At least partly because they're more interested in being amusing than sensible, and they have a lot of faith in their plot armor.

When your party members bully you so much that you incorporate taking a bath into your downtime
I do not understand these types of comments. As a DM, the biggest challenge I find is having enough story prepared to keep the players entertained for a full session, without them chewing through all the plot in under an hour (my group is very goal oriented). As such, if a player wants to eat up fifteen minutes of play time on something simple, or on having a conversation among themselves, that's a huge help. You can sit back and coast for a bit and let THEM tell YOU the story, which is delightful. I cannot imagine what kind of DM would be upset by their players giving them a break and picking up the narrative slack.
@@elbruces I think 1: It's because the thing he chose to do, out of all the things possibly available to a creative player like him, he chose to bathe because his party members made up the fact that he was smelly. So instead of preparing potions, writing scrolls, shopping for spell ingredients(which he needed at one point), he chose to RP taking a bath. It's funny. So people comment on it. 2. You're taking jokey observations about RPing a bath too seriously.

You can immediately tell how much this strange, new group means to Caleb by how incredibly blessed he comes off for having a moment of peace with his best friend where he’s now in a position to read in silence, and in peace for even a little while.
Just two days ago in character he was starving. Wanted. Scared. Not just for his own safety but for Nott’s. And now he has friends waiting for him, his best friend is safe by his side, and they can exist in peace.
It’s incredible storytelling.
I love how Caleb is literally a light breeze away from death for the first half of this episode yet no one suggests that he gets medical attention for two hours
Gotta love being the quiet friend. You get forgotten about sometimes. But more likely they just forgot he was at 1 hit point from the previous session.

Finally started Critical Role and now I know why Matt is held in such high regard. Holy shit, he is amazing.
He is like a Tolken or RR Martin, who not only creates these incredibly detailed and full, lore rich worlds, but also then acts them out and all the the npcs who populate those worlds! Amazing indeed!
Fellow newbie (both to CR and as a DnD player). He really is great. The only thing that sucks is there are so many people acting like if their DMs aren't on his level that makes them inherently bad. 😔

My favorite thing about this is that those braids were actually over 2 years ago. Most of us are caught up on the campaign and in the know by now. Those of us rewatching the first episodes and catching up to the actual campaign through Christmas break are coming to know these small details. Even after all this time this show has managed to capture our hearts and our imaginations. Watching these episodes for the first time and in many cases for many other people re-watching these episodes, it is exhilarating to see. Oh how the continuity of this content doth spring forth, much joy for d&d fans.

It's still weird, after years of Grog, to see Travis being the one with the intelligence and common sense for the party!

what impresses me is how well he plays are character with super high charisma, high intelligence but sub-par wisdom. It really shows how he is both crazy smart but also very gullible and naive.

in the campaign i play i’m a half ork barbarian that every enemies race/species we haven’t fought yet i say a fine addition to my collection then steal their head i have traumatised numerous shopkeepers because of this and anything we have fought i get advantage on intimidation rolls so far i have a goblin head an ork head and an ogre head we have only played two sessions but im gonna get a human head soon because we are the good guys

I wish my players would make these types of character changes. This one dude in my group always thinks he made a different pc but they all act the same. Run face first into everything and treat everyone like shit. It should be no suprise that he's died multiple times.
At 1:02:50 when Norda calls them criminals and Sam says we're not criminals just travellers since Nott and Caleb broke out of....... (prison) but goes silent was brilliant!
THANK YOU! I totally missed this moment. When Beau asked Caleb (seemingly out of nowhere) when they broke out of prison I was SO confused. I reread 4 episode synopses to make sure I didn't miss the reveal, but couldn't find it! Felt so crazy.
omg Nott asking "are you still gonn be the same Caleb?" when they're going into the shower hits so different when you know her backstory. Sam really loves leaving little tid bits for the re-watchers
He and Liam REALLY started their RP early and rewatching it is AMAZING.
Actually, Sam didn’t have that part in his backstory at this point. He knew that Nott didn’t like water, and had never known Caleb to be clean in any way. I’m hindsight, though, maybe Sam’s subconscious was already working on that but.

Hahahaha as a dm, i always have to be careful what i ask the players to roll- like, there's a balance between having fun with game mechanics and adding a sense of risk versus accidently having the party natural one themselves into hours of unintended jailtime fun or bureaucratic nonsense 🤣

I don’t think the dc’s were very high. She probably has a high insight score and everybody but Nott rolled above a ten.
Just because they roll low doesn’t mean the characters won’t believe them. Poor presentation =/= non belief.
They are trying to persuade someone who was trying already to believe them, if she weren’t, she would simply execute them like she threatened dozens of times.
They just did a really poor job of saying the things they had said- like a person laughing during a serious moment out of nerves. It was actualy kinda cool and said a lot about the character that she could see past that and remain objective.
I think that's the reason why there was no reward for their service to the town.
I think Talisen, as Molly, acting like a big brother to Toya is everything I needed in life.

After watching Campaign 3 and being new to Campaign 2, hearing the gang all say “making my way” and no one singing along afterwards is very weird.
Agreed. I started with Campaign 2, then began Campaign 1, and then started Campaign 3. Now I have finished Campaign 1 and 2 and am keeping up with 3. I've started a rewatch of campaign 2 and a lot of the jokes that are now iconic are overlooked but there are also a lot of things that are different. Slight spoilers, but uh watching the 3rd episode of campaign 2 and seeing how close the party got to a TPK really surprised me because of the events of campaign 3. I found it really interesting that a lot of times when I play D&D the party often gets dangerously close to a TPK. Granted I'm still a new player but seeing the party have to strategize changed my perspective. For me, I've played several sessions where my character goes unconscious very fast because I usually play sorcerer and so seeing Liam struggle because Caleb goes unconscious almost instantly in battle really made me understand the game a bit better. I think I have a better perpective.
I sing it in my head almost everytime. Otherwise it just feels like it's missing 😅😂

If The Mighty Nein get an animated series, I deeply want the episode that marks the end of the prologue/Trostenwald arc to end midshot with the entire group running after their rapidly escaping cart.
Now that it's been announced I'm 90% certain they'll start with this arc. It's the perfect entry to the group.
