Michael, I need some help. I am having so much trouble finding the right lower for my Mercruiser. I have bought 2 now and neither of them work because the Splines on the main driveshaft are different. EVERYTHING else is the same. Any way you can help me with this or tell me what I can and can’t do!? Please let me know. I have enjoyed and watched all of your Mercruiser videos. Thank you.
Good morning, just poured a cup of coffee and am sitting down to answer any and all questions for the DIY community. We appreciate you reaching out to us. We just had a viewer experience the same thing you are. He contacted SEI and provided them all his info including outdrive make, model, year, and serial number. SEI then emailed him the proper compatible lower unit to be connected to his upper. He mentioned he received it, connected the upper to lower and it lined up perfectly…but we are waiting to hear back from him after he launches boat back into water….maybe he already has…but we haven’t heard back. that bolt was frozen on ours as well. What we did was gently heat the outer part of the leg around the bolt then we used a socket/Allen key on a power bar. Then as one person applied firm pressure tot eh power bar, a second person lightly tapped the head of the socket/ power bar and the light shock broke the corrosion seal.

Thanks for watching & sharing this, our stubborn part was our lower unit bearing carrier, it held on for dear life but we finally got it out.
