If you watch this movie. You will understand that how well this director tried to spoil the image of Hindu tradition. Though the role played by Suraj Venjaramoodu depicts a male dominant character ,that too a villian character. Why did the director try to interfere in the tradition of Shabari mala? Foolish behavior by the director... Reason number 1: Hindu Daughters should be taught of respecting the tradition and the rules which is to be followed during a member of that family is who may go to shabari mala after 41 days or 20 days . Reason no 2 : If she does'nt follow or if she has a problem in following , she can go to her house. (3) Muslims and Cristians too have their own customs and tradition, as per the islamic law , Sunni ladies are not allowed to go to Mosque.(5) One of the worst movies (The great Indian Kitchen) , I request the peace lovers not to watch these type of movies. (6) Irequest this pottan director not to depict any religion in a bad way. (8) This movie is purely made by Communist team.You can find the hint in the climax scene( A poster showed near to the busStop.)
Overall great cinematic piece What strike the most for me was the part where the old pictures of the family who have lived under the same roof were shown on screen with the BGM of cooking/frying like sounds of a kitchen representing the generations of women who have undergone the same fate. Brilliant!! 👏🏼
My god can't even imagine our women ancestors, how they lived this way. Men only used women for chores in the name of tradition. Women must have faced many issues for coming out of this prisoner life finally

augh my blood was boiling the whole time while watching this film! Thank god it ended the way it did. I am so happy to see the message of hope and empowerment that the film ended on, and how it shows that sometimes you have to take your own fate in your own hands, and live for yourself and not others.

I feel very lucky seeing the comment section and movie. My mother died when i was 6 years old. My father is the one who is doing our household chores which includes cooking, cleaning and every single.thing. He never asked me to do anytjing. And i found myself lucky that my husband always helps me even to make a tea.. My men are gem❤❤❤❤❤

All women from around the globe on this planet cook, clean, serve their husbands or male families. It's not just India. It's in every household including the western households. Every woman has to go through things in her life like cooking, cleaning etc. and every man takes advantage of this. Religion has nothing to do with it. It has to do with how men and women are raised by their parents. If a boy child sees his mother cooking and cleaning, he will expect it from his wife. If a girl child sees a mother cooking and cleaning, she will do the same. And it's not just parents, we are taught sexist things by our neghbours, teachers, classmates, friends, family relatives and the public. It's everywhere.

I am originally from Sri Lanka and married to a European. Sri Lankan women don't have the same pathetic situation. It is a male dominating society there too. That is the very reason I married to a westerner. He watched half of the movie with me. He could not belive how women are treated in that society. We are equal here, if I cook my husband does dishes every day. He makes my breakfast and tea and help me every way. This movie made me realised that how lucky I am in my marriage. If you have a son, just raise him to respect every woman.
This is the kind of movies should be shown in schools and before marriages to people. This is not just in India but also among Indian communities around the world. But things are changing.

Really a very well made and sensitive movie.The lead role does not express much audibly but her expressions show the pain in her eyes,the torment that she has to face...whether it be in the kitchen or as a social outcast during her periods.Brilliantly made film,hats off to the director and the entire team!

Indian culture is so weird, Bachpan se hi kitchen set diya jaata hai khelne k liye.. husband ko jitni freedom milti hai utni hi wife ko restrictions. Nobody realizes this but it is a serious concern.

But in America irrespective of boy or girl they are taught freedom is your birth right and no one cannot boss you to do things. So such kids grow with self confidence. So in marriage if a man treats her bad a American women will beat him down and throw divorce at him even on same day of marriage. This movie was recommended by my professor as home work to understand social issues, especially position of educated women in the society. I've seen such events depicted in this movie at my own family. It's not easy to change mindset of people mainly when they are blinded by religion.
It is just me or anyone else who noticed the hidden things in this movie... How when they go to dinner at relatives place the girl serves the food with her mother & the boy eats with guests. At many places the father in law is just scrolling through his phone while the lady is working. He lives like a king expecting hand ground chutney & rice cooked on flame & needs his brush in his hands. Bloody can't even wear his shoes himself while going out. And this happens in many families & i feel it is the fault of ladies themselves to pamper men so much. Don't follow along the wrong practices just because they are practiced for years. I am not saying women are at fault but small small things we can do. Just don't clean after men. Don't pick up their plates. Let it be, let them come home to the same table mess. Not sure if this will change anything. Anyways a great movie!!
Many cases women don’t have a choice, they will get abused if they don’t pamper them. Like even her pointing out his disgusting habits led to a confrontation and he made HER apologize. Many women live with fear of much worse

Sons learn how to treat their wives from how their father treats their mother. If what you teach him and what he see his father doing are different, it will end up with one of your undermining the other and possibly will lose the son's respect. Kids learn what they see, not what is told to them. Both of you have to show him what he need to be.

Christian ആയതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ periods restrictions face ചെയ്തില്ല. എന്റെ life ൽ hus and mother in law ആരുന്നു cruelty കാണിച്ചത്. വീട്ടിലെ എല്ലാ പണികളും ചെയ്തു job നു പോയി ഭർത്താവിന് ചിലവിനു കൊടുക്കേണ്ട അവസ്ഥയിൽ ആയിരുന്നു ഞാൻ ജീവിച്ചത് . ഉപദ്രവം കുഞ്ഞു മക്കളുടെ നേരെ ആയപ്പോൾ ഇറങ്ങി. ഈ പടം കാണുമ്പോൾ 10 ൽ ഒരാൾക്കെങ്കിലും മാനസാന്തരം ഉണ്ടാകാതിരിക്കില്ല.
This movie is not about feminism at all. This movie clearly shows how important it is for every woman to have a loving and supportive partner. A woman is not really a robot who can be trained in housekeeping. She is a living breathing individual with emotional needs.
I don't think you really understand. Feminism is about uplifting and liberating women by supporting women and make them more than just kitchen slaves. This movie isn't about having a supportive partner but about millions of women, if not more, that still up to this day have to endure this BS just because they were born as women, so yes, this movie is feminist.
And that's what feminism is! And it's good to have a loving and supportive partner but if someone doesn't want a partner then that's also ok. Saying that a woman always needs a partner( or anyone else) is the same as saying she can't live without a man. But not all people want to get married and that's also ok but if you want to get married or want to have a relationship we all deserve a loving and supportive partner who also stands for your rights. People who hate feminism are the ones who may have misguided about it or who can't stand that we are talking about patriarchal society problems at its core and giving the right of freedom and independence of women to the women itself( because these people want to decide what women can do and what they can't or what kind of freedom they can have or not).
This movie actually has tried to explain that people who use feminism as a bad word or hate it are the people who can't accept that women are standing up for themselves and calling out bad practices of society, but they think those practices are ok. Like I said it's the people who just can't accept that women themselves can stand up for their human rights it should only be ok if a Man( who is quite Orthodox or traditional type) says it.

I'm honestly shocked that this backward practice during menstrual cycle and treating the wife merely as a housemaid with the menfolk doing zero house chores (even plumbing which is traditionally a mans job) is still practised in this age of awareness and education. My question is - why do women tolerate such treatment? I'm asking this because I'm assuming women who walk off like the wife character portrayed in this movie must be rather rare(hence why this abuse still exists).

They don't simplify it by saying humans eat food so humans should feed themselves, so instead people use terms like men work so women should be in the kitchen making sandwiches for men. That's the people's mindset. To change it, is to simplify everything into terms like human etc.
Movie depicts the strategic patriarchal practices beautifully with awesome storytelling and outstanding performances by the lead actors and also the supporting cast.

If you watch this movie. You will understand that how well this director tried to spoil the image of Hindu tradition. Though the role played by Suraj Venjaramoodu depicts a male dominant character ,that too a villian character. Why did the director try to interfere in the tradition of Shabari mala? Foolish behavior by the director... Reason number 1: Hindu Daughters should be taught of respecting the tradition and the rules which is to be followed during a member of that family is who may go to shabari mala after 41 days or 20 days . Reason no 2 : If she does'nt follow or if she has a problem in following , she can go to her house. (3) Muslims and Cristians too have their own customs and tradition, as per the islamic law , Sunni ladies are not allowed to go to Mosque.(5) One of the worst movies (The great Indian Kitchen) , I request the peace lovers not to watch these type of movies. (6) Irequest this pottan director not to depict any religion in a bad way. (8) This movie is purely made by Communist team.You can find the hint in the climax scene( A poster showed near to the busStop.)

What strike the most for me was the part where the old pictures of the family who have lived under the same roof were shown on screen with the BGM of cooking/frying like sounds of a kitchen representing the generations of women who have undergone the same fate.

Love the way the director knew how to shoot some scenes without nonverbal communications and each connection they give.
I'm not married. But I can feel this situation in our house. This is not only mentality of this religion people. I'm from another religion. Our people too do the same thing with women. I recommend every Indian and the people with this mindset to watch this movie. Masterpiece. I won't let happen this things with me.

Every woman has to go through things in her life like cooking, cleaning etc. and every man takes advantage of this. Religion has nothing to do with it. It has to do with how men and women are raised by their parents. If a boy child sees his mother cooking and cleaning, he will expect it from his wife. If a girl child sees a mother cooking and cleaning, she will do the same. Really a very well made and sensitive movie.The lead role does not express much audibly but her expressions show the pain in her eyes,the torment that she has to face...whether it be in the kitchen or as a social outcast during her periods.Brilliantly made film,hats off to the director and the entire team!

There is difference between a developed country like America and developing country like India. In india from childhood girls are conditioned to be a like a slave. But in America irrespective of boy or girl they are taught freedom is your birth right and no one cannot boss you to do things. So such kids grow with self confidence. So in marriage if a man treats her bad a American women will beat him down and throw divorce at him even on same day of marriage. In india women cry and cry and suffer and stay in a cage bcz of this low self esteem and society conditioning.

This movie was recommended by my professor as home work to understand social issues, especially position of educated women in the society. I've seen such events depicted in this movie at my own family. It's not easy to change mindset of people mainly when they are blinded by religion.

It is just me or anyone else who noticed the hidden things in this movie...
How when they go to dinner at relatives place the girl serves the food with her mother & the boy eats with guests.
At many places the father in law is just scrolling through his phone while the lady is working. He lives like a king expecting hand ground chutney & rice cooked on flame & needs his brush in his hands. Bloody can't even wear his shoes himself while going out.
And this happens in many families & i feel it is the fault of ladies themselves to pamper men so much. Don't follow along the wrong practices just because they are practiced for years. I am not saying women are at fault but small small things we can do. Just don't clean after men. Don't pick up their plates. Let it be, let them come home to the same table mess. Not sure if this will change anything.

If what you teach him and what he see his father doing are different, it will end up with one of your undermining the other and possibly will lose the son's respect. This movie is not about feminism at all. This movie clearly shows how important it is for every woman to have a loving and supportive partner. A woman is not really a robot who can be trained in housekeeping. She is a living breathing individual with emotional needs.

I don't think you really understand. Feminism is about uplifting and liberating women by supporting women and make them more than just kitchen slaves. This movie isn't about having a supportive partner but about millions of women, if not more, that still up to this day have to endure this BS just because they were born as women, so yes, this movie is feminist.
And that's what feminism is! And it's good to have a loving and supportive partner but if someone doesn't want a partner then that's also ok. Saying that a woman always needs a partner( or anyone else) is the same as saying she can't live without a man. But not all people want to get married and that's also ok but if you want to get married or want to have a relationship we all deserve a loving and supportive partner who also stands for your rights.
People who hate feminism are the ones who may have misguided about it or who can't stand that we are talking about patriarchal society problems at its core and giving the right of freedom and independence of women to the women itself( because these people want to decide what women can do and what they can't or what kind of freedom they can have or not).
This movie actually has tried to explain that people who use feminism as a bad word or hate it are the people who can't accept that women are standing up for themselves and calling out bad practices of society, but they think those practices are ok. Like I said it's the people who just can't accept that women themselves can stand up for their human rights it should only be ok if a Man( who is quite Orthodox or traditional type) says it.
And how important it is for every woman to teach their sons how to behave. Not to hand hold on everything and to teach them do their own chores .

I'm honestly shocked that this backward practice during menstrual cycle and treating the wife merely as a housemaid with the menfolk doing zero house chores (even plumbing which is traditionally a mans job) is still practised in this age of awareness and education.
My question is - why do women tolerate such treatment? I'm asking this because I'm assuming women who walk off like the wife character portrayed in this movie must be rather rare(hence why this abuse still exists).

I am a Sri Lankan and all most all the traditions, cultural facts and even cooking patterns are very similar to my country. But new generations do value feminism and females do hold equal rights as the men in the society now.
Time to change, Every men should be responsible by sharing the Mother, Wife and Daughter's duty and pain...Just going for job not only men's job... taking caring of their family toooo..Best movie for women's liberation... kudos to director of this movie....
It's not mother, wife or sister's duty. It's a duty of every human kind. If human needs to feed their stomach, it's their responsibility to fill something on it.
@@michingsonia5176 The issue is that the majority of people don't realize this and divide themselves into boxes like men and women. They don't simplify it by saying humans eat food so humans should feed themselves, so instead people use terms like men work so women should be in the kitchen making sandwiches for men. That's the people's mindset. To change it, is to simplify everything into terms like human etc.
