  • ya'll know i had to do a la la land commentary & reaction vid to capture my first time watching this AMAZING film! so here's to the dreamers & the mess that they make... i guess i'll see you guys at the movies ❤︎ (& yes i'm officially stealing both of those lines forever lol)
hey guys! i hope you like this video. i can't believe it took me this long to watch la la land (& yes, okay, maybe i finally did it so i can watch the dylan is in trouble la la land commentary without getting spoiled, what else is a girl to do, you know?) but i genuinely enjoyed the movie & i hope you guys did, too!! 4 years late & all but that's fine 😂
but please let me know your thoughts in the comments down below!! do you like la la land? do you know what the color theory hip-hop-happenings are? do you have insight into the main faults of the movie?? WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE JUST WAITED FOR EACH OF THEM TO ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS SEPARATELY & THEN RECONNECT??? (that one will forever haunt me tbh) but i hope you guys liked this movie commentary! and are excited for whatever my next step is in learning final cut pro 😂 (i'm working on it!! the tv reactions might still be on iMovie for the time being, just so i can keep putting them out in a timely fashion, but i'm hoping all future movie commentary vids will be done in this manner!!!)
& as always, thanks for watching!! :)
also pls don't hate me pandering to the algorithm, but here's a lil weird paragraph so maybe hopefully this vid shows up in search if the YT gods are generous, lol:
this is a la la land commentary with a side of la la land reaction and a lil sprinkling of la la land analysis (yes yes i am technically an audience & this is technically a la la land audience reaction too although i guess not quite) but it's my first time watching la la land (god, yes, i know, idk HOW I'm only watching la la land for the first time in 2020 but i guess i live under a rock) but i really wanted to watch the dylan is in trouble la la land movie commentary video, so i hope you enjoy this movie reaction & la la land breakdown, with moments such as: the la la land audition song reaction! the la la land ending reaction! another day of sun la la land reaction! i mean, this movie has such good soundtrack, that la la land audition song broke my heart, and the la la land ending... well, it took my broken heart & tossed it in the trash tbh. so yeah, i hope you guys like this la la land movie reaction of the la la land first time reaction. cause dang, this movie is MAGICAL.
okay thanks for humoring me! i hope you guys enjoyed this video & i'll see you all for the shield reaction this weekend! :)
also, rights to the la la land clips belong to their respective owners, & definitely not to me, shoutout fair use!!

My ex also didn't like musicals or romance movies, and he was a huge movie buff. After i mentioned this was one of my favourite movies he agreed to watch it with me. He gave it a 3/10 and kept saying Mia cheated on the guy she was dating and the ending sucked because he thought it was unfair to the husband... Needless to say we broke up shortly after.

"Did this win an oscar?" Well it should have. I loved that they chose to end this story with them not together but still finding success and happiness. Also Tree (Jessica Rothe) from Happy Death Day is one of Mia's roommates and that's just one of those things I can't unsee.

oh i didn't even realize that one of the roommates was jessica rothe! between this & valley girl, i seriously need to go watch death day now 😂 & i totally agree, i love those bittersweet endings where the romance doesn't necessarily work out but the two characters have grown for the better throughout. (now it makes sense why they were recommending before we go at the end 😂) i'm glad they both were able to find their success, though. that's honestly more fulfilling than just the two of them getting together, in my opinion!

This film is a masterpiece and has the effect of drawing you back into another viewing every so often despite knowing the somewhat heartbreaking emotion it evokes. I suspect that many who've seen it find the emotional arc somewhat familiar and that others that don't, long for the chance just to have the opportunity to experience such a relationship, perhaps thinking, hoping and dreaming that their outcome will be just a little bit closer to a fairytale Hollywood ending.

I interpreted the opening scene as people come out here to L.A (SoCal in general) because of the allure of "making it big" in the entertainment industry...they're super excited and giddy with only the accomplishment of landing in L.A on their resume...but the reality is they're no different than the billions of people (I assume) that have come before them, and eventually will not become the next Bradley Cooper or Jennifer Lawrence, in the meanwhile clogging up the on-ramp from the 110 South to the 105 West.

I first watched this movie in 2019 and for some reason I didn’t get it. I love musicals and acting, this film should’ve spoken to me right then and there. I finally gave it another chance a few months back and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I think the difference is that around the same time as I finally decided to watch it again, I met a girl that I honestly thought was my soulmate. It legitimately felt like it was straight out of this movie. That’s the fairy tale, something this movie does a great job of portraying with the planetarium scene and summer montage. Unfortunately, I came to the realization that, while I love this girl and have never had such a strong connection with anyone else in my life, we both have entirely different ideas for where our future takes us. I long to settle down, get married, and start a family. She isn’t sure what she wants, but she knows it isn’t that. That’s the reality. The scene outside the observatory at day. The last look back after picturing the life we could have had. No film has ever spoken to me on the deep personal level that La La Land has, and I don’t think any other film will come close.

@@fictionaldarling There are so many more I want to see. The thing is with movies, tv shows, books, etc. is that the more you learn about them, the more there is to see. So I feel like I'll never finish every movie that'll be on my watchlists (especially with something like Steven Schneider's 1001 movies to see before you die (updated to 1222 now)). But I totally get milking those trips! I went to New York for a couple days about 3 1/2 years ago and it was one of my favorite experiences. There was so much I didn't see while I was there, like Central Park; however I did get to meet Nick Kroll, John Mulaney (for a split second), and a handful of people from SNL while I was there. So that's what I milk the most.

Thank you for recognizing that John Legend's character dropped the truth to Sebastian. Because he's not wrong. If you want jazz to survive, you have to let it evolve. That's the truth about music as a whole. Pure jazz is beautiful, so Seb's love for it is more than justified. But it's not gonna reach everyone. When you give the new generation it's rendition of jazz, you've given them the keys to vault to, potentially, look at jazz in the past to see how it got to where it is now. But you have to get their attention first.

Part of the culture of jazz musicians (and other styles of music) is learning things by ear. And it’s just a skill you need to have in order to play with a band. You need to know where the chords are progressing when you or the other people in your band are taking turns improvising.

I think the most powerful thing about this movie, is something that is beneath what everyone talks about, being that they accomplished their dreams. The point of the movie is perfectly accentuated by the glimpse of what their life could have been, and how close they sat together and they were smiling, and that wasn't even enough so they get closer and kiss. And then cut to reality, everyone has a grimace on their face, and she is physically separated by a good distance from her actual husband. The only difference between what could have been and what is, is happiness without attained goals, and misery with goals achieved. They accomplish their dreams yes, but at the cost of true happiness. Accomplishing your dreams doesn't make you happy, simple joys and trials in love make you happy. And this movie serves as a beautiful tragedy to teach us the lesson so that we don't have to learn the hard way! It's fantastic.

I know I'm super late to the party, but I only found your channel because of Wandavision, so here I am now. And I just have to say, this movie is every bit as deserving of the love you gave it. After the Oscars, people kinda woke up from the collective "La La Land is going to win EVERYTHING!" fever dream and accepted, yeah, Moonlight was the better movie and it deserved the Oscar, and then the La La Land backlash set in. But even so, that doesn't make this any less wonderful. And as someone who DOES live in LA and who has been to every single location used for this movie, I can confirm we do dance randomly in the streets, and I don't give a single damn who sees my underwear.
On a somewhat deeper level, probably my favorite thing about this movie is how it becomes an entirely different movie halfway through. In the first half of the movie, all the songs are non-diegetic, in the style of more classic musicals. Music is magic, life and dreams are one and the same. And it all peaks beautifully in the Planetarium dance sequence, which ends in a classic iris-out to mark the end of the movie, like a Rodgers & Hammerstein musical. From that point on, the rest of the music is entirely diegetic, in the style favored by more modern musicals like Once, Sing, Coco, and A Star Is Born (2018). We see the fusion jazz concert, the piano scene, the engagement party, all sans-magic. And it leads up to Audition, which strangely, we actually can't tell if the singing is diegetic or not. Is she singing in the audition, or is she imagining the song as she speaks the story, or... are we somewhere in between? Hell of a question, especially when you consider the role Sebastian played and the ending they didn't have.

The Audition is.. my god.. such a tearjerker of a song. Even more if you are an artist and can relate to what the song's about. I've seen this movie about 4 times so far and it's gotten better each time. I am so glad that you've finally seen it. Now go watch it again.

Thanks for posting this. I did not see this when it came out either. I Saw it about the same time you did this video. Like many, pandemic life brought a lot of movies and shows into my life that I had skipped or would have skipped. My apprehension with this movie had to do with being a huge fan of vintage movie musicals and buying into the criticism and not wanting to be disappointed. Basically I wanted it to be good, but was afraid it was bad, so never gave it a chance. I know, lousy excuse not to watch some thing. I ended up a captive audience when my cousin put it on to rewatch and I absolutely loved it ❤️🎶. I was in about the same shape you were at the end. Probably meant to be as I think I would not have been in the right mind set four years ago either. Most romantic movie musicals would give us the big kiss ending of Singing in the Rain, but additionally loved how this movie brought the Fantasy and Reality of costs to chasing your dreams. 👍🎶💃🏻🕺🏻

LA weather is best in the world, but it can be a soul crushing place unless you have a passion and are talented. Even then you need to have an ego the size of Greenland or a social outlook of a saint to survive there. Because no matter how happy and good you are, most people are better than you and judge you to death to build their confidence that they might have a chance to be happy there.

Once again, Emma Stone and Ryan Goslings' chemistry shows when they are in a movie together, a big movie is coming. Plus, the writing was so perfect and "what could have been if" moment was even more better. You said that some people think there might be some misperception or some mistakes on the movie but i totally disagree with this. Only a true movie lover can really enjoy the story of this movie 💕

Loved your reaction to this. Yes it was robbed of an Oscar. Moonlight was a good film, but when Ali leaves the screen at the half way mark the film dies. There is also criticism of this film for "White person" trying to save jazz. Yes he said that but he was just being goofy. Remember his character is passionate yet a bit goofy. He wanted to really just open up a jazz club and show non- followers how good jazz is. And by the way good jazz is not just done by black people..see Harry Connick Jr.

Not my favorite movie of that year, but definitely the most fun one - also, the best attempt so far to make an old-fashioned Hollywood musical with some modern twists on it. Saw this three times in theaters (first on my own, then with different friends).

Idk if you saw when you were looking up Oscar stuff, but La La Land was nominated for 14 awards, tying with All Above Eve and Titanic for the record. It won Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Original Song (City of Stars), Best Actress (Emma Stone) and Best Director. It was up for, but didn’t win, Best Film Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Original Song (Audition: The Fools Who Dream), Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Ryan Gosling), and of course Best Picture. ❤️

Did it win the Best Picture, you ask? For a few minutes, La La Land was believed to have landed the big happy ending, only for the harsh reality to take that fairy tale away. That's low key fate's punishment for making us go through the same emotion in the last section of the movie.

However, as much as I love it, I do agree that Moonlight deserved the Oscar over this film.

People will always find fault in film or art in general, even if it's a masterpiece. From my observation, the haters of this film fall into two broad categories: (1) people with narrow taste & dogmatic political views and (2) people who have the attention span of a gnat. For #1, these guys/gals will hate anything without some far left wing underlying political message. La La Land was very apolitical (which is pretty rare in film these days), thus, it didn't pass their test. For #2, if it's not action packed with explosions, they bore easily.

People movie to LA to be discovered. People movie to Florida to die!!! I'll just say this about some people dishing this. When a movie becomes so popular the some pretentious people will hate it. This happened to Titanic. "I've heard this..OMG...I can't believe people like this movie".
