    Hey! This is a comparison video between Boss GT-100 and Line 6 POD HD500X.
    I'm a relatively long-time Line 6 user. For the last 7 years I had POD X3 Live,POD HD500 and 'till few days ago the POD HD500X for the last 3 years. I had also the whole Dream Rig by Line 6 for period of 3 years (DT50 Amp,POD HD500X and JTV59 Variax guitar). For all this time I was trying to get as much as I can a warm and good sounding tones out of the POD,but without success.I'm a tube amp lover and I always have been plaing with tube amp on stage,but some times we had to make a compromise :-)
    Few days ago I just decided to give a chance to Boss GT-100 and I've watched almost all reviews in TH-cam and I read a lot of information in some forums about the GT-100.The problem was,that I was hearing realy good sound of GT-100 on TH-cam demos,but in most forums big Line 6 fans (I guess ;-) ) were talking absolute nonsense about the GT-100.That's why I decided to make this video,because in my opinion the Boss GT-100 is very underestimated! I own it since 5 days and I do not seem to know many things about the unit,but I instantly understood (when I played through GT-100),that I've lost all my time trying to get the sound I needed out of the Line 6 units. I'm talking about,dynamics,responce to playing,the sound quality,all FX and so on and so on... I've tried it with the 4CM with my Tube amp as well and the results were outstanding nothing to do with the POD HD500X! In my opinion POD HD500X sounds more like a very compressed mp3 audio and the Boss GT-100 as a very rich uncompressed wav file ;-)
    Please keep in mind,that when you watch the video you get information only about the sound difference between the two units,but you have to play through both to be able to really feel the difference! The GT-100 feels and respond almost like an real amp,but I can't say the same for the POD! ;-)
    The guitar used for the video is my James Taylor JTV-59 Variax guitar by Line 6 and I used only the passive pickups except for the acoustic sounds (last two songs). The pickups are ''Stag Mag'' by Seymour Duncan on neck position and ''Crunch Lab'' by DiMarzio on bridge. I also have split switches for both pickups.
    The intro song is called 'Highlander Boogie' by the band Hellecasters
    All the sounds are straight recorded through USB and no post editing were made!
    All song motives in this video are cover versions!
    You could Download the presets here: drive.google.c...

    Buddy finally a you tube video that's worth watching !!!! Not just a shred fest !!!
    If it be pickups or processors ! Totally pointless reviews of gear everywhere on you tube ...you can not hear differences just with Gain ...period
    Your clearly a very good player too
    So my point to reply is this : I ha e bee. Though totally the same experience with Line 6 .. I am currently on my third Line 6 Helix !!! Yes third. I've had the Helix light ...the HD500....the XT Live ....the Pod version 1 and 2 the list is endless
    I keep trying to convince myself that this gear is the best for purpose ...
    I should add that as a Pro touring multi instrumentalist I play pedal steel gtr ,mandolin, Banjo Keyboards but I'm primarily a Blues Rock player ..loving LarryCarlton to Gary Moore
    So here's the thing ..I ha e owned a Boss GT100 since they came out and used it exclusively with my touring band using in ears monitors it sound great always has .. I have used it with success on solo gigs direct to small PA and in a Lizzy Tribute going into the front end of a fender Deville and JMP1 preamp into power anp and 4x12
    With great success too
    Just this weekend as I'm struggling to get sounds I like out of the Hekix yet again!!! I have brought it home and tries it/compared it directly just as you have !! And your comments and video samples are bang on the money ...it just as you say ...the Boss has far more tonal range and quality!!! Ok it does not have all.the Helix gadgets !!! But it's a way better product way better
    The effects are so.much better ...in fact different league .
    Please send me a reply i would l love to share my ideas with you and maybe get some back ..
    I do find the Boss stand awkward to programme controller's etc but not impossible also the software on my mac at times has been a pain but it's a way better product and I'm convinced the Line 6 stuff is over hyped and over here !!!!!
    Thank you for a really useful great review
    Keith

      Hey man! I just saw your comment! I didn't get any email about it...strange :) Anyways...
      I'm glad you found my video useful! As I said on some comment I didn't made the HD500X to sound worse than the GT-100 I just tried to replicate the sounds I already had on my HD500X to the GT-100, that's just the result :)
      I'm realy happy I decided to give a try to the GT-100! Now I know the difference... I'm glad you know it too! :)
      Cheers! :)

      @@Andrioman BTW what do you think of the Helix evolution of Line6 ? I think it sounds much more better but still kinda of artificial tone ....the Guitar Bonedo comparison demo between real FX stomps N Helix Effects is pretty demonstrative (listent to it many times in order to spot out the artifacts)

    • @Andrioman
      @Andrioman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lushkordz6643 Well, the Helix is much better than HD500X in any aspect, but for me is not only the sound, but also the feeling when you play. I haven't tried the Helix, but of what I heard on TH-cam it sounds in many aspects very similar to HD500X, although it's much better in many ways I think that the feeling will be almost the same as HD500X, because the technology of simulation is the same. With BOSS is a lot different... I would go to GT-1000 rather then Helix, but that's just my opinion! :)

      @Andrioman yeah i tol' agree with you bRo ^^ i think the overall dynamic should be the same (or very similar) than on PodHD series ...i feel attracted by the huge collection of Line6 Vintage FXs that really lacks on the Boss multi IMO ...the Gt1k is cool but it's a very short upgrade of the Gt100 IMHO /// Do you have one ? or R you still playing on the Gt100 (like me) with external outboard preamps (ENGL E530 + Blackbird stacked with a Palmer PGA-05 Cab-Sim 100% analog filters & a DBX 166A Dual Ch. Komp going thru a ENGL 840/50 Pow-Amp) with all these gears implemented into the Gt100 FX loop i still have a clean signal (using both Boss NS + DBX Gates) /// the quality of the signal on the Gt100 is just amazing ....so straightforward !!! (even though need a good signal calibration that the Gt100 offers) Still have the Fractal AXE FX II option that folks R selling like hell these days 😁😆

    I have both units. I only use the HD500x when I'm playing a gig that primarily I'm using my Variax for. For a straight plug in and play I feel that the GT100 just tips it over the edge for tone. Both units sound immense when going through my three amp setup.

    Great video! I'm in total agreement with you on this! Like you, I went down the Dream Rig route. I even had a JTV 69! What a piece of you know what! After slaving over this set up for months I just ended up frustrated! No matter what I did I just couldn't get a sound I liked or was convincing. Try channel switching the DT50 at high volume? Yes, you know what I'm talking about! Dream Rig? More like Nightmare Rig! The GT100 on the other hand, is a fabulous unit! Everything is laid out in a common sense fashion. The Quick settings is so handy, as it gives you the ability to get straight in the ballpark and all the main tweaks are there! I run mine through a Mesa Boogie Simul 395 and 2x Mesa Boogie 2x12 Half Backs! Sounds incredible! So much so, that I have been able to make my Triaxis and Intellifex LTD redundant! My tip is, get a decent VALVE power amp and a decent set of speakers, disable the speaker emulation in the GT100 and you've got it all! If you can't get the sound your after using that kind of system, I suggest you give up guitar and try knitting! Nice playing by the way!

    • @Andrioman
      @Andrioman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thanks for your comment! :-) I totally agree with you! Actually the time I had the whole "Dream Rig" was the time when the crappy Line 6 gear sounded as best as it could, but not as much as it should! After 3 years of using the whole system I sold the DT-50 and few days after I just tried to make some sound with the POD HD500X,JTV-59, but this time with Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp and the sound was way better than with the DT-50 (which by the way was meant to be best sounding with the HD series PODs). Then I realized that the DT-50 was really bad amp! (Actually I loved the speaker inside "Selection G12 H90" and now I just have the Line 6 extension Cab,because of that,which is amazing :) ) I think, that the whole conception of the Dream Rig is really good, but made with cheap parts and AD/DA converters make it sound,let say not as good as it should :) About the guitar I know what you're talking about JTV-69,because a friend of mine has that guitar and I couldn't believe how bad it is! It's like some very cheap Squier guitar, but JTV-59 is awesome, nothing to do with the JTV-59( I don't know why there is such a big difference ) ! Actually the only Line 6 part on the guitar is the electronic and only there you've got some issues :-) . I'll not get to in depth, but this is the part I just had some problems :) Now I use older firmware,because the acoustic guitars in the FW after 1.71 sounds terrible! I wrote ( and I'm not the only one here) few "tickets" to Line 6 "Gods"with a request just to let the users the abilities when they upgrade the FW to choose whether or not to upgrade the new sound simulations, but only the functionality. And the guys from Line 6 said "if you want the new functionality,than you have to upgrade the whole FW" and get the thin (almost like banjo) sounding acoustic guitars and so on and so on... Anyways...
      On the other hand the GT-100 is amazing! I had a very good hand made all tube amp by Panama and I use it in conjunction with GT-100 using 4CM. It sounds amazing! Way,way better than it was sounding with the HD500X before!
      And lets don't forget the abilities of GT-100 to switch the channels of your amp,whish is awesome! :) I just love it!
      Cheers my friend! :)

    wow 6 years and still answering comments. I am first amazed that the gt 100 sounded that good recorded usb , considering the 44.1kHz A/D conversion , I read that the gx100 will do 32bit floating point, even though the resolution is at 48k and it was on my short list for a new modeler, but if I am not improving appreciably on sound over the gt 100 I already own. thanks for posting this video 6 years ago lol, your playing is awesome, lots of expression and there is a lot of imformation in the comment section, who knew Line6 had fanboys?

      Hey! Thanks for your comment! I'm happy to see, that my video is somehow helpful :)
      About the GX100 I'm not familiar, but a friend of mine has GT-1000 and he give it to me to make some sounds for him. I was willing to upgrade to that model, but after I familiarize with it I was amazing how close to GT-100 it sounded, infact I wasn't able to find any difference in the sound(at least with the stock amps and cabinets). It obviously has a lot of IO options and improvements, IR capabilities, but it lag's some futures that GT-100 offers, like the Custom Speaker and Custom amp, where you can manipulate any aspect of the amp and the speaker. I use mostly those options for my sounds. At the end I decided not to upgrade and I still use the GT-100 for small gigs. :)

    Yo tengo la Pod HD 500x hace 4 años.
    Y estuve perillando 3 años o más , hasta conseguir el sonido que busco. Es bueno siempre comparar y no encerrarse en un seteo .
    O sea el que cambió fui yo, mi oido. Y con eso más horas viendo y entendiendo cómo funciona para maximizar el Patch..(mucho vídeo tutorial y foros, y práctica en vivo)
    Siempre digo que es la pedalera más incomprendida y difícil que hay. Pero me gusta mucho. Yo podría comparar o acercarme más que los seteos de este video.
    La Boss no es mala. Para nada.
    Pero me quedo con la Pod.
    Lo que me da rabia es que no siguieran mejorando o actualizando el firmware. Son unos mercenarios.

    I own the Headrush Gigboard, Helix LT, Pod XT and Boss GT100 and I can tell you right now, the GT100 is the one i grab everytime for a gig. First it sounds great, second, its a fukin tank and third not everyone is using it so your tone is different it really sounds great. I use the Headrush for home recording because its easier to edit. I'm returning the Helix Lt.... BTW, i tried to gig with the Headrush and it was a nightmare..... no way to boost the sound for solos.... the option is there but it doesnt not cut thru the mix in a live band. Thanks for the wonderful side by side comp. I consider myself a purist, and never heard a multi effects unit that I liked. Hi , Andrio, I am really not kind of any professional musicians since I stopped my playing in 19's and I just started to play again in 2012. All I can tell you that times ago I noticed that it is not all about brands or models of brands. I tried full Ibanez stuff so Effect Ibanez, guitar Ibanez and also amplifier Ibanez in hope that it will bring great sound to my ideas. But it didn't. It didn't sound like I wanted. I tried to take a Kramer guitar with BOSS effect and some of amplifier (I really can't remember the brand which I have chosen). Point of my comment is that I noticed that it is really all up to you. If you like sharper sound, if you like more solid sound, etc, etc, ...
    So don't criticize BOSS since it is company existing for 45 years not like Line 6 which is on the market for 22 years.
    My first effect was "Boss Metal Zone MT-2" which gave me sounds I just liked, many variations, many distorted options of sound and EQs. It was simply amazing effect for my style of music.
    Then I stopped to play guitar for over 10 years... but few years ago I again started to do something with music. All I wanted and I got was. ...to be able record and produce my ideas by my self. I got "Aria XL DLX" ( Japanies guitar brand similar to famous model Aria Pro II, but with a bit less of quality then its forerunner) and "BOSS ME-25" which was for years my dream of effect and it clearly corrected any imperfections of my cheap guitar. Now I have Jackson Soloist SL3X also not too expensive instrument but I like way how it is built. Since I am a not millionaire and have my own budget to buying things for my hobby, then I know that Boss is right way at least for me. Also I know that there are not depends of brands or products. All depends of individual person/musician, which style he wants to play, which sound he prefer more, etc etc
    From sounds of your movie I just made sure that I am definitely fan of BOSS. It has amazing sharp sound for authentic atmosphere in your songs. BOSS is simply my favourite ;)
    Thank you and I am sorry for my long comment and my bad English as well ::P

    I returned the Line 6 because it blew up. Just like the display one in Guitoy Center. They had a few that died. I really like the GT 100. Wish they had the stereo FX loop and the XLR connections. It’s a tough unit. It’s been all over the states. Found a Gater bag for a portable keyboard at Sweetwater. Fits perfect.

      @David Davidson For me it wasn't :) You could always use DI Box on stage where you need long cabels...
      About the FX Loop I don't think that there is a workaround, because it's just fiscally mono connection. I was using mine only for the 4CM and it was brilliant for that :)

    Great side by side review: No comparison GT100 DI-ed sounds like the real deal further it does take some time to get the GT sound all set up and stored but in a week of working with its the results are stunning. The old days of twist and turn are history.
    I have a Boss e band JS-10 same engine and sonic quality as the GT100. I don't gig... only studio recording I have over 50 pedals mostly TC and EHX all direct in with one small Orange 12watt amp in a proper Iso Box. I record every thing in stereo so I can get the big stage sound. I have some boss pedals and find all their gear is top notch for the money.
    G-100 is Hands down Digital Multi EFX Pedal and sonic winner all around.
    Thanks for one... if not the best organized pedal reviews I have ever experienced. Short, Sweet and Directly to the Point

    Although I find the Line 6 overall sounds more close to reality, and grander, I found out, having worked a lot with a Boss GT-8 and a Pod XT-Live, in studio, that the Pod timbres tend to disappear more in a mix (or get over drums, piano and bass), for they have narrower frequency range but with greater efficiency. Alone, Boss timbres may sound more "plastic", some of them maybe, but when combined with the other instruments they tend to come out more easily and sound real. Pod timbres sometimes get all over the place and you have to tweak them in place.
    I too am confused about which one is best to suit specific needs.
    Thanks for sharing

      Francis Mann I agree with you. I started playing with a POD but, by the time that I had to join a band, I had to chance my set up and go for Boss... because my sound (POD) was so tiny and unperceptable in comparson to my bandmates.

    BOSS almost all the way, except for "Soldier of Fortune", those Line 6 harmonics brings me goose bumps!!!! In my perception Line 6 sounds great, but just a little bit scooped. As my amps are already slightly scooped I guess the BOSS will fit them better (I use BOSS-ME-8). But both multi-effects are great machines.

    One of the great "hidden features" of the GT-100 is the gain switch which essentially makes each amp model a three channel amp. With that switch, some EQ, and maybe a virtual pedal, I can get any tone I want without it sounding overly compressed. It's really hard to dial the compression out of the POD.

    I’ve been wanting to get the GT100 for a while now and will probably get it soon even if there was a new model coming out. I’m assuming that the next model will not have enough changes to make worth the money when I compare it to my skill level. For me buying the Canon 80D was a no brainer even though the 90D was about to be released; I still can’t use half the features to full advantage. The GT100 will serve several functions for me and will also be a really fun toy so I hope to order one in the next few weeks. Thanks for a really good video.

    • @Andrioman
      @Andrioman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks man! Glad you like my video! :)
      I'm pretty sure that GT-100 will be enough for almost everyone! Actually I was willing to upgrade my GT-100 and replace it with GT-1000, but I tried the new GT-1000 and yes it's better in terms of connections, IR capabilites and many more functions, but the sound... The sound is the same as on GT-100! I tried GT-1000 using the same amp models I used in GT-100 and overall I recreated the souns I already had... they sounded exactly the same to my ears and the feeling was the same... This doesn't mean that GT-1000 isn't better, but GT-100 is still very good and sound wise equal to GT-1000... :)
      Don’t get me wrong I really liked the GT-1000, but I don't think it's worth the money for upgrading GT-100. If you can afford GT-1000 it's definitely better, but GT-100 is still very competitive :)
      That's my opinion of course :)
      Cheers!

    I have the Pod HD 500x for 4 years.
    And I was knobbing for 3 years or more, until I got the sound I was looking for. It is good to always compare and not lock yourself in a set.
    In other words, the one who changed was me, my ear. And with that, more hours watching and understanding how it works to maximize the Patch .. (a lot of video tutorial and forums, and live practice)
    I always say that it is the most misunderstood and difficult pedalboard there is. But I really like it. I could compare or get closer than the settings in this video.
    The Boss is not bad. No way.
    But I'll stick with the Pod.
    What makes me angry is that they did not keep improving or updating the firmware. They are mercenaries.
    With the multi-effects, of all, you learn.

      I had X3 Live, HD500 and HD500X for 7 years... I knew them very well and the main problem with those processors is the feeling when you play, but it depends on the style you play! If you play Heavy Metal or Rock with a lot of distorted sounds, than you won't feel much, but if you play blues, jazz and more softer styles, than this processor is a peace of crap... And that is the main point when you choosing guitar processors, if the processor is bad on clean sounds, than it's bad overall, because distorted sound is much easier to accomplish even with some cheep processor, but the clean sounds shows the real power of the converters, dynamics and so on... ;)
      Another thing is that I hadn't change my ears to like the Boss GT-100, it just sounds good without tweeking it so much... :)
      But if you like HD500X, that's good too :) There are many processors to choose these days and if you've found yours, than that is the goal! :)
      Cheers! :)

    First of all,great video! :)
    I was long time Line6 and Boss user.In past,I owned Boss GT8,10 and Line6 POD HD400,X3 Live and HD500.After years of researching,I found that Line6 is what I need.
    I don't say Line6 is better but has some options that Boss don't have.To be honest,Line6 is winner when it comes to amp modeling.You really can feel dynamics from amp models but for effects Boss is better.I really don't like outdated COSM technology from Boss.It's realy plastic sounding amp modeling.Clean amp models are round and full but from there story ends.High gain and crunch amps are not good in any point.I finaly ended with HD500X and can't be more statisfied.I play many styles and every time when I play in small bars HD500X is keeper.I also have tube amp and pedalboard for bigger gigs.Overal,both are great units but Line6 wins for me cause amp modeling is more important than effects to me!

    • @Andrioman
      @Andrioman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thanks!
      You used to have older Boss models,that don't have nothing to do with the GT-100 ;-) I don't care about the technology behind the units,but I care of the dynamic and playability. The plastic sounding unit for me is the HD500X ;-) And what do you exactly know about the COSM technology? I'm curious,because many people are talking about the COSM without knowing nothing else,but that the technology is based since maybe 2001 or so... But do you know how exactly the things work,because I think I read enough and I think I know ;-) and I can tell you that it's very similar to the new Helix by Line 6 ;-)
      You can hear from my video that the overdriven sound of the GT-100 is way better than the HD500X,at least in my opinion ;-) To be honest the only thing I miss from the HD500X is the MIDI capabilities,but other than that,for me the GT-100 is the winner in all other points.
      Anyways... everything is about a personal taste ,so there is not right or wrong here :-)

    • @frank88yt

      Andrioman I just wanted to share my opinion.I forgit to say that I have BOSS GT100.I can clearly see that you are Boss fan and there's nothing wrong with that.I'm just sayin' that I preffer Line6.In my opinion,Boss is better in mix with band but never found it good for recording.One big think is fact that there are lots of people who don't know tweek multifx units.You really need to be into it to tweak it right.Amp models sound far better on Line6 if you tweak them right.
      Boss GT100 has nothing with earlier versions and that's true.More detailed amp models like user friendly interface are good and effects are stuning.Here on TH-cam is guy called Peter Hamer demonstrating HD500X and you clearly can hear how amp models on Line6 are better.
      I have my page on Facebook called Boss GT100 Tonematch where you can find custom presets by famous guitarists.
      At the end,both are great units but tastes are different.Line6 is overal winner for me.
      Thank you for reply and have a good day and most important,keep rockin!! 🙄

      I know all the videos of Peter Hanmer and in fact the example of the overdriven sound of POD HD500X on my video is one of his presets and you can clearly hear the difference ;-)
      I wasn't a Boss fan before and if you've read the description I was a very long time Line 6 user,at least 7 years untill I found the GT-100 two months ago :-) Now,yes I'm a big Boss fan,but after I had the both units I can clearly tell the differance :-)
      After all that's why there so many options available,so everyone can choose the best for him :-) I just wanted to show the people,that the GT-100 is very underestimated and in my opinion it's better than most guitar processors out there :-)
      Next step for me will be Fractal Audio... :-)

    • @Andrioman
      @Andrioman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fred D. Hey! I use it mostly on stage and it's as good as the POD,even better if you use it with an tube amp,because the GT-100 has amp control output and you can switch the channels of your amp :) Yes,the POD has more switches, but you can assign many things on the GT-100 switches as well,also you could extend the switches if you need more, just when you buy separate switches for the GT-100, which you can't do on the POD :) You have two modes like on HD500- stomp boxes and preset mod,so you can do whatever you want :) I use it 4 months till now every night and I love it! :) Hope that's helpful! Cheers my friend! :)

    • @fendafred

      I still got to read the manual but am I correct to assume that you can do a preset with a chain of 8 items (effects, preamp, ...) and define which items will be directly accessible through switches 1 to 4? Is the display easy to read to recall which effects are assigned to which switches? Line6 and Headrush stuff have explicit screen labels on top of switches that make them easy to read. I wouldn't mind spending more for those pedalboards if I knew I would use all those extra features but all I need is a pedalboard with basic effects and preamps that would replace 2 or 3 classic pedalboards (small one for rehearsals, medium for small gigs, large one for larger venues).

    • @Andrioman
      @Andrioman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fred D. Yes you can assign each effect to each switch stomp box mode and in my opinion the displays are much easier to read on the GT-100 as supposed to HD500X. But you have to decide for yourself which one is better for you. I made my choice and I love everything about the GT-100,but I can't say the same for the POD...

      Hi! Thanks so much! I found something here
      guitarpatches.com/patches.php?unit=GT100
      And of course, Boss Tone Central is very good place to found pro patches ,and immediately try them on a GT plugged trough USB to comp... with Boss Tone Studio software installed (btw I have dowload "The Shadows" patches or Johua Munday's "Classic collection" for example, and they are Super Great!!! :-) Some of the patches may not work on each machine the same (GT1, 10 or ME80..., but GT-100 and GT-001 is the same processor).

    I have both POD500x and GT100 and just getting used the GT100. I have owned the GT5, 8 and 10. I have always been a Boss user and used the 4 cable method for a long time. So here is my opinion if anyone cares. For the record I only play METAL music. So I dont use much clean tone or fancy effects, I am too lazy.
    I use the POD as a DI recording and as a preamp into a stereo Peavey Tube and and it sounds awesome! As an amp modeler I find it easier to get a believable tone when doing direct recording. As a preamp into the Peavey tube amp it just kills it, Marshalls, Mesa, Engl, what ever I choose it sounds good after a little tweaking.
    As for the Boss. The 4 cable method with a Marshall amp is a home run in how much I can tweak my sound and make the amp rage like monster from the deepest depths of hell. It also wroks well as a preamp into the Peavey but I dont know, I have to change the settings for different amp models. Example the Rectifier I use the JC-120 return setting and all Marshalls I have to use the Stack return or they sound fake.
    The GT100 as an DI amp model for metal, for me it works, I can get some great tones but its still missing something, something just stands out as being fake, and I can make a passable tone with the POD for DI recording.
    Thats my 2 cents.

      Albee213 Hey! Thanks for your comment! I agree with you,but... :) It really depends on what style of music you play. For Heavy and Metal music maybe the HD500X is a bit more realistic for recording,but the dynamic and response to playing is horrible. This is not so much noticed on overdriven sounds,but on cleans is really bad... Anyways I think that with the version 2.0 on GT-100 you can get some very brutal and authentic High Gain sounds :)
      Cheers man! :)

    what i like about multi fx pedal board things, is that you can just play with headphones and not need any amps. so if the power is out and u got some batteries, you are playing with power! had a boss me80 for a year, too big and a pain in the butt to carry without a case which is also hard to acheive. found a line6 pod at pawnshop for just $80 i got it. much better than a boss m80. although the m80 lets you physcially adjust each effect, which is a huge plus.

    I have the POD HD500. You can get some great sounds out of it, but it is a major PITA. Line 6 engineers make things very difficult by throwing in a bazillion options as opposed to keeping it simple. While I don't love some of the cabs, you can use the deep edit features to tweak them till you get something you like. The mic sims are a pain in the ass though. All of them have some aspect that's just a little bit off, making it a chore to get your tone where you like it. That said, I like really do like the sounds I've been able to get out of it, and don't find it overly compressed at all. Having a good FRFR definitely makes life easier.

    Why does everyone swear by the Helix if the Boss sounds this good? Any feedback on the zoom?

    • @Andrioman
      @Andrioman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thank you! Glad you like my video! :)
      Of all the units you have described the best and most expensive is really the Helix, but I would suggest checking out BOSS GT-1000. It's amazing in my opinion :)
      Most of the people who swear on Helix are people who are playing with processors for all of their lives and doesn't know how the real guitar tone should feel! I'm not saying that Helix is not good, but the feeling is not as real... Now I play with all tube amp(again after this many years with the processors) and I couldn't be happier :)
      If I have to go back to processors I would definitely go back to GT-100 or if I have money to GT-1000. There are some other analog options which I would go too! The Tech 21 "Flight Rig" Richie Kotzen version is awesome :)
      It really depends what style of music you play and how you like the dynamics of your guitar sound. I'll say it like that: If you want really good dynamics and as much as possible a feeling to real tube amp, than go to BOSS priducts. If you play more Rock, Heavy Metal and overall heavy music with a lot of distortions, than go to Helix(I'm not saying here that the BOSS products are not good in distortions, but Helix is better in this aspect) :)
      For the other processors they simply are not on that level, sorry... The zoom is tragic (my opinion)... I was playing with zoom many years, but it was 25 years ago and back than Zoom was the best of all processors, but not now...
      Only Boss ME 80 is good, but not as much as GT-100 :)
      Please keep in mind, that all of this is my opinion and you should try and make your choice by your self :)
      Cheers my friend!

      I corrected myself - love that 1st riff so much I thought it was Gatton. I'm long time tube amp guy myself but wanted to simplify live rig and cut the 4CM cords. When modeling got so good I 1st switched to 11R into FRFR monitor & loved plugging straight into the board (not having to be at the mercy of a sound guy's eq'ing). But I do miss the "amp in the room sound" vs modelers "mic'ed amp" tone. So if you've had great luck with the FOH Tone of GT-100 via Di-box I may try that. Tone is incredible. Thanks again, very 'enlightening.

    I want to buy one of those, but I´m really confuse about it. In this video Boss GT100 is the winner. Did you use the same parameters for make both sounds? The sounds are very different. Which cabs did you use for the record? In my opinion Boos sound like if you recorded using the best cab, but don't happen the same with the line6. My English is not good. I hope that you can understand me. Thank you very much.

    • @Andrioman
      @Andrioman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rubén Alonso Vigueras Salazar Hey! I don't use same parameters, because these are different processors. What I did is, because I had the HD500X since 2 years and I all ready had the sounds I was playing in my band I just tried to make the same sounds with the GT-100 when I bought it! You can hear the result... I don't remember which exact cabs I use,but I think they are 2x12 and 4x12. I like the opportunity with the GT-100,that you have "Custom" options for the Cabs and Amps! In other words you are not limited with the only few models you have(like in most processors),but you could make for example cabinet with 4x13,4x11 and anything in between plus open back and close back. You have as on the othe processors the most popular mikes,but with the GT-100 you also have special microphone(custom microphone) which is a microphone who doesn't have it's own character,but is more like Line microphone or as Boss described it (if I'm correct) this is if you have the best microphone... So what I really like with the GT-100 is the ability to make your sound as you want it with the possibilities of those custom options. The other things are the FX on GT-100(Delays,reverbs, choruses and so on...) They are waaayy better than the Line 6 FXs...
      I'm not telling you which processor to get,but I had for the last 7 year all of the Line 6 Flagship processors and I can clearly say(since I have the GT-100 for more than a year now),that I'm so happy with my decision to try the GT-100 and replace the HD500X. I couldn't be happier! For me I can say that I'll never go back to Line 6,but that's my personal opinion!
      I hope that's helpful! :) If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
      By tha way if you want to see what are the settings on both processors,you could download the presets and the editors for both and use them in offline mode...
      Cheers!

      Ether USB or PA-Direct it should be no difference, because I have used speaker simulations inside the processor. I've used Boss GT-100 live with a band and as a one-man show with backing tracks for around 5 years and if I have to choose today if I need to play with processor, I definitely would get another GT-100. Actually I sold my second one two months ago, because I stopped playing gigs where I need small gear. Trough the years I've tried some other processors including Boss GT-1000 and I still think, that the GT-100 is best processor for the money.
      I hope that's helpful information, but you should expect some difference between your tube amp and the processor, although GT-100 is much closer to the real amp than all the processors in this price range...

    Boss sounds better or more pleasant IMO.

    En esta comparación me gusta bastante más la Boss sin duda, sonido más vivo y real.

    This video makes me want to try the boss GT - 100. I have the pod HD500x and I think that the dynamics aren’t very good and I think it sounds a bit stale.

      Yes, the dynamics plus the amp control were the main reason to switch to GT-100... If you have a chance to try it! Just keep in mind that it's very different from the HD500X in terms of editing and making the sound :)
      Cheers!

      Andrioman yes, I know that there would be a learning curve involved and that’s part of what’s holding me back from getting it. In addition, I don’t like that it doesn’t have XLR outs to go to the main mixer. The 500x is very well equipped with ins and outs.

      @@MrJaydeep777 Yes, the XLRs are downside... but if you don't use very long cabels, than it's OK, otherwise Direct Boxes are the solution :)

    Great, I just ordered the dream package. I have a boss katana 100 212 and a line 6 spider jam with the pod XT live pedal board, and as good as the boss sounds when I play it on its own, I don't like the sound of it when I play along with other music, On the other hand the line 6 sounds great when I play along to other music. I am just praying the dream package sounds good because I cant return it.
