    This was most awesome as I have an HD500x used with a dt50 and a L3t using the L6 for connectivity. The tones I achieve are good but harsh sometimes. The parametric technique you use is most awesome, but now I see I have a whole bunch of work to do as I have patches for 3 different bands I am in, but in the end it'll be worth it.

    MY SUGGESTION TO EVERYONE... Peter's patches are unbelievable . I suggest you set your HD500X in the way you're going to use it while you are watching the video. for example, i set my hd500x into the POWERAMP section of my Fender DeLuxe loaded with a Celestian Cream speaker.... CREATE your patch while watching the video here with Peter .. you will notice the sound of your setup as you build the patch with him. I noticed when I added PARAMETRIC EQ my settings were slightly different then Peter's for the sound I WANTED.... it works great..... try it. HIGH 5 TO PETER for sharing his expertise and knowledge.... cheers

    Great playing and excellent tutorial on the hd500. Thanks Glenn Peter! May I suggest to all the players out there that clean playing (present company included) no matter your style or interface is the best way to produce a tight and in your face guitar sound. The more polished the guitar part the louder you can turn it up in the mix (within reason) without hindering other instrument tone. EQing is blast with quality playing and tone.

    I must have watched this video 20 times over the last couple of years. Very inspiring. It's actually one of the reasons I finally bought a HD500X last year. Sadly I haven't come around to using it yet, since I - oddly enough - started to get some decent tones out of my old Boss GT-10 pretty much at the same time I bought the POD. I don't doubt that the POD will improve things though.

    @MeTuLHeD 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video! Proper use of EQ is the key to getting rid of the dreaded 'fizzies' in any modeling device, not just the POD series. I have found that the use of a de-esser plug-in or a tube 'saturation/softener' type plug-in also works in this kind of application as well. Especially if you are looking for a more subtle comb filtering type of effect.

    • @MarshallMusicDirect
      @MarshallMusicDirect  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, MeTuLHeD,
      I have to say that "fizz" doesn't really bother me that much. I should imagine that using a "de esser" would work very well though.
      .
      If you stick your ear in front of a real speaker cab when an amp is set for a fairly high gain you'll hear a fair amount of "fizz" too. I like to call it "sizzle"

    • @MeTuLHeD
      @MeTuLHeD 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ummm...really? By fizz I mean the frequencies you are notching out. The ugliness around 3K. The harsh frequencies you are using the EQ to remove. I'm not sure what some people mean by 'fizzy', but that's what I'm referring to. And it's what most of the players I know who dislike modelers say they hate is that digital harshness.

    • @MarshallMusicDirect
      @MarshallMusicDirect  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MeTuLHeD I think everyone's idea of "fizz" is different. I see it as that high frequency component about the 5kHz area. Sometimes you can remove it completely without changing the tone but more often than not you can also lose a lot of the "sizzle" from a high gain amp.

    Super tutorial! It helps to have a really nice Gibson as your input, too 😉. I think a lot of the salt against the POD comes from the fact that virtually all of these cabs and amps need tweaking, and in some cases, a LOT of it. You have shown that with a little patience and tips, the POD is capable of some terrific tones. Geeze, I may actually forego the Helix and see about polishing some of my POD patches instead...

      MarshallMusicDirect Hi Peter,
      So you don't have an issue of a preamp (pod) going into the amp preamp then into the power amp? It seems like when I do it there is a lot of distortion. Is there anything you do specifically with your amp settings?
      Lim

    • @MarshallMusicDirect
      @MarshallMusicDirect  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lim Peacock I did have to fiddle around a bit initially. I was even loathe to try the POD directly into the front of my amp because of what I'd read on the net about how bad it sounds. Curiosity got the best of me though and I plugged it in expecting to hate it. After adjusting a few things I was able to get it to sound extremely good and would have had no problem doing a live gig with it.
      Maybe that could be another subject for a video...

      MarshallMusicDirect I think that would be a very helpful video indeed. As you can tell from the POD forum, most of us are struggling to get the best tone we can from the HD500x. There are so many variables that it gets a little overwhelming at times. Thanks again, Peter!Lim

      +Nikolay Dorokhov Why would you be missing something??? If it's too dull for you then increase the top end. Simple. It sounds fine to me and if you'd watched the video carefully I stressed that it works for ME but might differ for other players. Simple.

    I just got my HD 500X today. But, I have no idea how to make it sounds cool like yours.

    Hi Peter .. loved you video, I have question, how to put boost for lead. I can't really find a good booster on POD HD500x. and from dynamic they just give me a color. it will really nice if you make another video of that.
    Thanks.
