It’s hard to comprehend that Cliff was so good at such a young age. I mean he started playing with Metallica at like 20 years old and he was already known for being an amazing bass player playing solos on bass like it’s a guitar! And it’s well known he had a really good understanding of music theory he would tell James and Kirk what notes to play when trying to doing Harmonies for a song they were writing. Even bassists that have been playing 30 plus years often don’t have the knowledge or abilities Cliff did. Cliff just was a true music fan he was born to be great and he was great it’s just too bad his life was cut short. I think if Cliff was still around Metallica’s music would probably have been different
I once had crappy seats, behind and above the stage at an Aerosmith concert. It wasn’t a hard sellout, as these cheap seats were lightly occupied, just a handful of us up there, but when they started Sweet Emotion, Tom Hamilton turned around with a grin on his face and played the whole intro for just us. We all got up and started grooving. Really made the show for me.

Les Hall is a terrific bass player. He’s also a great keyboard player, but I’m especially impressed by his ability in this video to nail all these bass lines.

Entwistle does a great bass solo on My Generation. One of the first, if not THE first, bass solo on a R&R song. I've seen the WHO several times, while Keith Moon was still with them. Lucky me.

I’m a bit late to the party but only discovered your videos recently. I thought Rush’s ‘Malignant Narcissism’ would have made your list - when I first heard/saw that intro on a live video I literally jumped out of my chair!
This list isn’t complete without No more tears from Ozzy. Truly massive bass intro. Another honorable mention for Fischer Z and So Long. That is a super fun line to play.
I was telling my youngest son that My Friend of Misery is going to be on the list. Again, Jason Newstead is overlooked because he was a Metallica fan. He payed the price for being a fan for a band that mistreated him.
Tbh a lot of his lines are probably among the best bass intros of all time. Transmission, LWTUA, She Lost Control, Disorder, Ceremony and Age Of Consent are all classic bass intros.
He doesn't seem to listen to new wave or post-punk though. Its either classic rock or KROQ-type stuff. That's all well and good but The Cure, The Chameleons, Joy Division, The Smiths, and The Police have a number of classic and iconic bass lines.
You immediately know its Hooky. No other bassist sounds like him. When Monaco came out with the song What Do You Want From Me, I thought New Order came out with a new album.
I'd definitely include Tina Weymouth's "Psycho Killer" in that list, or at the very least, in the honorable mentions. It's one of the most memorable and recognizable basslines ever!
I am no musician, so I don’t know if this qualifies as a bass intro, but one of the most iconic bass lines that I can think of in the past 50 years was Jack Bruce’s in “sunshine of your love”

It was even used by Vanilla Ice, so it was a chart topping song for two different artists in two different genres, many years apart. I love your list but there is one I must mention! The Real Me” - The Who, Quadrophenia! I think it should have AT LEAST made honorable mention. I think it doesn’t get as much respect due to its simplicity but the way the bass and drums feed each other is magic and whenever I hear it I have to stop everything and just soak it up. I’m 62 and now that I have severe arthritis I’m finally beginning on the guitar. 😂. Really enjoy your channel and videos.

I believe Beato knows Thin Lizzy and has at least mentioned Gary Moore once but is not interested in examining the Irish rockers. U2 fits his liking more then Philip Lynott. I find it funny Mr Beato will praise Metallica and others like Foo Fighters but fails to realize that these cats were highly influenced by Lizzy.
Best bass intro belongs to Jump Into The Fire. No debate. Rick really misses it on this vid. One of the signature surf tunes was way overlooked as well, Pipeline. No love for The Clash either? Radio Clash has to be included here.

As soon as he said the lead singer is in another band in the top 20 I was "has to be schism". 46 & 2 is excellent but I feel like Schism's intro is more iconic/unique and just stands out in people's minds when thinking of things like lists.

This list isn’t complete without No more tears from Ozzy. Truly massive bass intro. Another honorable mention for Fischer Z and So Long. That is a super fun line to play.

I was telling my youngest son that My Friend of Misery is going to be on the list. Again, Jason Newstead is overlooked because he was a Metallica fan. He payed the price for being a fan for a band that mistreated him.

"Age of Consent" by New Order - Peter Hook is one of the greatest all time bassists IMO

Tbh a lot of his lines are probably among the best bass intros of all time. Transmission, LWTUA, She Lost Control, Disorder, Ceremony and Age Of Consent are all classic bass intros.
Too simple.
Though considering #19, anything could have made the list.
He doesn't seem to listen to new wave or post-punk though. Its either classic rock or KROQ-type stuff. That's all well and good but The Cure, The Chameleons, Joy Division, The Smiths, and The Police have a number of classic and iconic bass lines.
You immediately know its Hooky. No other bassist sounds like him. When Monaco came out with the song What Do You Want From Me, I thought New Order came out with a new album.

When I saw the title of the video Walk On the Wild Side is the first thing that came to mind. It is two of the most iconic rock bass lines.
Oh wow - good point about Under Pressure. I’d say that was almost better than Another One Bites The Dust. It was even used by Vanilla Ice, so it was a chart topping song for two different artists in two different genres, many years apart.
Tho I don’t know if mentioning Vanilla Ice helps or hurts the argument!

"Mississippi Queen" by Mountain
I love your list but there is one I must mention! The Real Me” - The Who, Quadrophenia! I think it should have AT LEAST made honorable mention. I think it doesn’t get as much respect due to its simplicity but the way the bass and drums feed each other is magic and whenever I hear it I have to stop everything and just soak it up. I’m 62 and now that I have severe arthritis I’m finally beginning on the guitar. 😂. Really enjoy your channel and videos.

And yet the Van Halen song that did make this video about great bass intros has a pretty ridiculously simple and not all that impressive bass line, which really pales once the fancy guitar fireworks chime in 🤷😆
The fact that he had NOTHING from Entwistle shows that it's just another Top 20 nonsensical, subjective list. The Real Me, Dreaming From The Waist and many others could have been included in the list. But nothing from one of the greatest rock bass players of all time. Garbage list !!!

I believe Beato knows Thin Lizzy and has at least mentioned Gary Moore once but is not interested in examining the Irish rockers. U2 fits his liking more then Philip Lynott.
I find it funny Mr Beato will praise Metallica and others like Foo Fighters but fails to realize that these cats were highly influenced by Lizzy.

Best bass intro belongs to Jump Into The Fire. No debate. Rick really misses it on this vid. One of the signature surf tunes was way overlooked as well, Pipeline. No love for The Clash either? Radio Clash has to be included here.

Schism over 46 & 2? Schism is cool and all, but the way Justin brings in that driving rhythm on 46 & 2 and it just builds in intensity.
As soon as he said the lead singer is in another band in the top 20 I was "has to be schism". 46 & 2 is excellent but I feel like Schism's intro is more iconic/unique and just stands out in people's minds when thinking of things like lists.
