Thanks for the info! My bike would not run with the choke off... I cleaned the jets with some carb cleaner and a guitar string. Now my bike runs perfect. Ready for spring!
Shout out to Oaky132x I had a clogged jet and the bowl needle hole, and nothing worked, even 120 psi air pressue, letting soak in carb cleaner...etc. I watched this video, went out and pulled a single bristle out of my wire brush and it was thin and stiff enough to get both clogs out. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TRICK!!! Thanks again Oaky!
I agree with you that the pilot jets are often overlooked in a lot of these videos Warn winches used to come with stainless steel stranded wire that came in the wiring kit. The ground wire had a crimped connector and had strands of wire that were perfect for these tiny pilot jets. They are very stiff and don't break off easily in the jet. The best carb cleaner I've ever used was made by Ford. It was a penetrating fluid but it would eat that oxidized white crap as well as the fuel varnish.
Hey i dropped my motorcycle going about 20 mph and now it wont run unless the choke is on. I can rev the engine high or low and it stays on. I can even force it to idle if i give it some throttle as soon as i turn off the choke but once i stop giving it throttle or choke it dies. I'm new to repairing and was thinking that the problem was either a air leak or according to this video the pilot jet might be clogged now??
You dropped your motorcycle, and then it wouldn't start, which most probably means an air leak. A clog is unlike, but can't rule it out. Seeing that you asked this a while ago, what actually happened, and did you get it fixed?
I was getting ready to trailer my Valkyrie to the repair shop for this problem. I didn't want to mess with the syncronization or adjustments on the carbs. But this shows me you don't have to mess with that. I may give this a try!! Thanks, Rog
Thanks oaky132x, This is the exact problem I'm having with my '82 V-45 Magna (won't idle unless the choke in on full) . When I saw that motor in your video I knew I had hit pay dirt! I've had the bike since new but as you can guess I've haven't driven it much in a long time. It's funny though under full throttle it runs like a bear with that Kerker header. I was looking for some direction and now I'll give it a shot.
My Suzuki gs 125 only idled with choke, cuts out with a throttle twist. Just took the carb off and my pilot jet was blocked. Just cleaned it through like you did, hopefully it works when I put it back on the bike tomorrow! thanks for the video ;)
If your bike still can't idle with the choke off, even after jets are clean, check for vacuum leaks around the intake manafold that the carbs goes on to, also air filter box.
Would this fix the high idle after revving and only running nicely on the choke? Would it be the same if only 1 jet was clogged when there is 4 cylinders?
great video. my serow xt224 bike runs poorly from idle to faster w/o the choke. so your ideas are most welcome as the path to a fix. first problem found tho is the slot on the jet that the screwdriver fits into is worn down. cant get a grip. ??? now how to remove it. maybe , for now , can just push in a wire and ensure the hole is clear. but downstream is an adjustment screw for idle mixture adjustment. guess they are both in the same idle gas circuit. and access to that screw is blocked by a brass plug. gotta get around that somehow. to ensure the blockage in the jet didnt simply wash downstream and plug up the openings from this mixture screw to the venturi space. ideas welcome.
should i be able to get the wire completely through the pilot jet? i cant on mine no matter what i try. im thinking im not using a small enough wire or something.
I have an 85 honda sabre vf700 that won't run without choke so it's probably the same problem... but my clymers Manual says the pilot jets are on the side under a metal cover that will need drilled out to get to... and it shows main jet and slow jet inside the bowl... do I need to remove the covers to get to the pilot jets to make it idle or just do Like u did?
Hey dude, will it mess up my bike to ride it a bit with the choke on? I have this same problem but will only be able to do cleaning next week and need to ride until then
Oaky, thanks for this video. I have a performance air filter(cone) and my bike wont run with out choke on, does this mean i have to increase the size of my jet and pilot jet? or just one?(new to mechanics) thanks! :) ps it's a cg125 and it's mixture is fuel lean.
If you haven't gotten it straightened out yet ...ive seen where you'll need to open up the jets 15 sizes bigger ..if your running pod filters and a header.. Good luck...
Good video! but that only works for jets that are easy to clean, for very stubborn ones that are much smaller or hardened to the point that cleaner can't do the job check out my vid!

Ok man was in the garage and nothing was working went on here to find a video and yours was the only one that worked, wire brush fucking genius.
Nice one Oaky !
These vids people like you upload are a real help to me.
Thanks for showing.

I hav a 83 v45 .same prob. Thanks 😄
Thanks so much for the video. Just had this issue happen today on my dirt bike. Hopefully this works.

Thanks dude. Your video help me with my carburetor.
Thanks, got my bike running thanks to your vid!
A mig welding tip cleaner works good for poking it through. Thanks for the video. Take care
Great info! Very helpful! Thanks!
Well now I know why my Honda trx250ex won't idle lol thanks!
Great video! It really helped a ton
Thank you so much for the video, senpai!!!

You can use a guitar string to clean the jets
Oaky what's the other 10% cleaned my jets and the still wont idle off choke can you suggest anything else?
Even smaller a strand of a bicycle brake cable
Thank you so much, subscribed :D

Oaky132x, thanks for your great help with this video, would a dirty pilot jet also cause backfiring?
I only have 500miles on my bike and the secondary jet is clogged , the pilot/main jet is clear but it would idle fine with the choke off
Awesome piece of information brother I'll be doing this soon and let everyone know of the results. posted 1-31-2017 10:26 pm.
You lied.
I have an 85 honda sabre vf700 that won't run without choke so it's probably the same problem... but my clymers Manual says the pilot jets are on the side under a metal cover that will need drilled out to get to... and it shows main jet and slow jet inside the bowl... do I need to remove the covers to get to the pilot jets to make it idle or just do Like u did?
i did this with my 2005 klx 110 and i could not even get that little brush to pass in. so what do i do?? plz help
Thanks
so when the hole needs cleaning you just stick it in and do some feeling?
I've got SV650 99
On higher loads 1 cylinder misfires. Could the Carbs be dirty?
Hey dude, will it mess up my bike to ride it a bit with the choke on? I have this same problem but will only be able to do cleaning next week and need to ride until then
I stopped the head off my pilot jet. Same carb your working on. Any ideas how to get it out. There's no room to grab it with pliers. Please help
Blow it out with air
So what if that's not the problem? Where now? I have an 01 r1 and I can see the hole through it but it's still not working.
13guns ur floats
Did you say you removed the pilot jet with a flat head screwdriver? If so, can the same tool be used to remove other Honda pilot jets?
Yes, it is.
Is it the same way for a dirt bike ?
Yes ...
these must be older jets. the pilot jets on my crf450 do not go through like that even when brand new
thanks:))
What of the jet is just so damn clogged you can't manage to unclog it?
Mine is so clogged that not even a guitar wire will pass through it.
Blow through it or use a air compressor
Dre Anza Did you use a compressor?
Did you ever get it cleared? If so, how? I've got the same problem.
can you replace pilot jet without taking apart the bike to much?
Yea if you have a shaman or a wizard handy you should be able to!
+Eatmybutt69 lol! Best response ever. Hilarious
What's the other 10 percent?
Oaky, thanks for this video.

my vmax shuts off as soon as i close the choke will a bottle of carb cleaning fuel injection work. if i just run it through the tank?
did this work?
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO . I WILL TRY THAT.
what is leak off low
win
Good video! but that only works for jets that are easy to clean, for very stubborn ones that are much smaller or hardened to the point that cleaner can't do the job check out my vid!
I was right...as usual...it ran great..."shipped it"...lol
i cleaned all of the jets and there all clear and it still doesnt run off of choke. any ideas on what it could be?
Vincenzo Sheehan did u ever find out what it was
Maybe diaphragm
CNN? That's what you are forced to watch at the airport. Fox news, if you please.
mccarterw . . Agreed! CNN sucks. Fake news.
