Agnetha truly shines in this. Her voice is so pure. But I offen wonder how people ignore Frida's vocals.
The backing is pretty heavenly in this. When you listen to an isolated vocal version you can hear the guys too. It's like a choir.
No one ignores Frida, without any of them (singing front or back vocal) there would not be an ABBA

This is good because it's Agnetha's birthday tomorrow!! One of the premier ABBA songs. Total heartbreak and pain. Loss of love. And a beautiful vocal that you feel deep down. Agnetha quicky established herself as the heartbreak queen.

Definitely one of their best songs. Björn wrote it after his divorce with Agnetha and wanted her to sing it. It turned out to be her favorite song of ABBA lol.
Agnetha has an amazing voice and many artists have covered this song but the original version remains the best.
The part that still takes me out while watching this video is where Frida is on the floor and the others are just laughing out loud. 😂😂😂😂
Björn also wrote a “divorce song” for Frida & Benny with Frida in lead vocals, although probably not as popular as this one and it’s called “When All Is Said And Done”. It’s still good though. The lyrics are slightly more hopeful than “The Winner Takes It All” but you can still feel the pain in Frida’s voice and you can certainly tell in the video.
About that photo, it’s not from a video but I think I’ve seen it in color 😁.

Agnetha’s stellar performance certainly didn’t come at Frida’s expense. It’s never been that way between the 2 girls…..the better one gets the better the other one gets in return. Frida rode the wave of attention with Fernando and Knowing Me Knowing You and later on Super Trouper. Agnetha rode high on SOS, Gimme, and this song. You couldn’t possibly be any fairer. By my count when all the dust is settled and all the solos are counted and compared, Frida come out 1/2 song ahead.

You are right, it's not a song about the materialist things in a divorce, it's about the loss of the love of your life, who decides to walk out on you after a long marriage and go with someone else.....I lived it....and it's PAINFUL and has nothing to do with "things" but feeling you are a loser.
