Agnetha said the divorce left her emotionally mangled and she could put it all into her performance of this incredible song.

The greatest divorce song ever written. Written and sung in real time by the 2 people going through the divorce! Agnetha could barely hold it together to record her vocal. But over time came to find it kind of therapeutic. The emotion in her voice and on her face is all real. BTW it was my comment suggesting waiting a little longer, but that's cool. Great reaction👍

a separate comment, which seems important to me,
given the character of the song and the times in the life of its protagonists
It is a song inspired by a divorce, that of Agnetha and Björn
(I reiterate that 'inspired' is not the same as 'reality')
but the separation as a couple had already occurred a year and a half ago
the divorce itself is the legality of the dissolution of a bond,
which in fact occurred a long time before
Agnetha and Björn went through the anguish of those times at the end of 1978
then they continued within ABBA,
recorded singles, albums, filmed official videos, toured and many television appearances
for 4 more years until the end of 1982.
That is why the song and its official video coincide with the legal divorce,
not with the previous separation
(equally the emotions existed in the recording,
because it is life itself, they were 10 years as a couple, with two small children)
I think around the time Agnetha and Björn broke up as a couple,
they recorded "Chiquitita" and some other songs.
She looks depressed because she was. Her real life ex husband who had just divorced her wrote those lyrics while he too was depressed and drunk one night, they all gushed out, and then she came into the studio and sings "tell me, does she kiss like I used to kiss you" to the ex who wrote it
So yes. The emotion wasn't faked.
But she said afterwards that although it brought tears, it was so powerful and cathartic it was worth it.
I never thought the emotion was faked, I thought it was a great song and it was just a shame that she was so depressed, having been through depression myself I hate seeing others going through it so thats why I mentioned it. Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed the reaction.

The lyrics is a fiction about a divorce,
it is not about Their real life,
although it is obviously influenced by Their own experiences
and the realization of the legal divorce between Agnetha & Björn in the middle of 1980,
even though They were no longer a couple or lived together more than a year and half ago, at the end of 1978
In fact, the song was more nearly in time to the split of Benny & Frida as a couple, only a few months later
the Official Video with more than 117 millions views in TH-cam,
was filmed on July 12 (1980), is a Masterpiece as the song
it shows the blonde singer Agnetha alone so sad and remembering happy times,
and the others members so nice together, a perfect example of contrast feelings
It's the first ABBA vídeo with images in black and white about Their previous history,
to introduce us in the context; I think it's their best official video
but just as a great performance by Agnetha is seen in these video,
almost like a dramatic actress, transmitting the sorrow, anguish and pain,
there are also videos in the back room of the filming, which show the four cheerful and funque
"The winner takes it all" return ABBA to the Top of the charts,
gives ABBA their eighth #1 in UK after almost two years and half
Also was the fourth and last Top10 to ABBA in U.S (pick at #8 in 1981)
and #1 in US Adult Contemporary too

was voted the Best ABBA song by the British fans,
and is the favourite ABBA song to the blonde singer Agnetha
and now in the new Voyage concerts at London the encore song is...
