I loves this movie. I wasn't talking or texting during it either, Grace -- what an outlandish remark. This movie had my complete attention despite its flaws.
Venraef there was a lot more to it than that. Idk what Grace is talking about with the action sequences but they were very good alongside funny jokes and cool set-pieces
I think it was less Cara and more the writing and plot in general could have been better. That said, the marvel movies have repeatly proven you don't need strong villains to have successful super hero movies. From what I hear, the characters themselves is what a lot of fans of the movie fall in love with. Deadshot and Harley really stand out in the movie.
I didnt mind the villian, and i get what cara and David ayer wanted enchantres with the moves, is not a bad villian or a villian of the month like marvel, ( Im not agains about marvel) but it was good i get the motivations, but i have fun, an i really care for rick flag and junne moon
Please don't compare 89%, 2 time Academy Award winning, billion dollar Frozen with Suicide Squad. Suicide Squad had amazing trailers and a flawless promotional campaign thats it.
craig harris Yes I know. When I say, GREAT START, I meant three of their great movies, MAN OF STEEL, BATMAN V SUPERMAN:- DAWN OF JUSTICE and SUICIDE SQUAD. THREE, AWESOME MOVIES. Next year, WONDER WOMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE. I hear that they are now working on A SOLO SUPERMAN MOVIE. Peace.
Yeah I know right , I'm 15 but got kicked out because I needed to show my id .....I was so pissed so I went to another theatre and saw it haha. ( I'm talking about SS not deadpool , I saw that in theatre ;))
+Fraser Mcgowan the exact same thing happened to me, I'm 15 and the AMC ID'ed me and I had no ID so they didn't let me in. Had to go to a different cinema, saw it in the end though.
The movie is a C+. I don't care how fun it is, there was too much false advertising, the editing was terrible, and the villain/plot was poorly executed.
+lucariomew365 man you sound like her....you need to realize people generally love it !! and your opinion isnt law..even with its flaws it dosent deserve that low
Arnez Juggins I understand that other people like it, but I'm referring to a very specific group of people. The common reasons I keep hearing for fans loving this movie relates to it having more in depth characterization than BvS. But that shouldn't be enough to make or break a movie. In truth, the characters that got more than 20 minutes of actual screen time to speak, are likeable. The remainder of the cast has no purpose and the 4 conflicting plots is distracting. Allow me to put it this way, I sat through Ben Affleck's Daredevil and I actually liked it. But I still rank it as a D. I originally considered it a C but then the Netflix series came out and was darn near perfect. I can bring up other examples of really bad movies, but I'd rather not. The point is that I don't go into a movie with a critics mindset. I'm the person that likes the bad movies, but I spent so much of my time going wtf is happening. Also, anyone want to explain that scene where you know who randomly pops back up after we all pretty much saw him die. Apparently that that entire season was cut and edited so poorly that it just acts as if the whole crash didn't happen.
Gui Deandrade The only "villain" I saw in Finding Dory was lazy humans. As for the "seasons", that was autocorrect - I meant to type "scene". Also, you cannot own me in an argument because I haven't started one. Either way,the last person who said that spent weeks trying to convince me that MoS and BvS didn't deserve their (well earned) hatred. The truth is that they are both terrible movies. However, BvS at least had the Ultimate Edition to fix the issues. That is, unless you agree with Zack Snyder's insisting that the theatrical cut is the superior, true, version of the film.
I don't understand how u liked BVS but despised suicide squad. I loved suicide squad. But it's your opinion and I really like your videos. Hands down my favorite critic.
if you ask anyone who their fav heroes are most people say batman and/or Superman although the movie wasn't the greatest it was fun but no way better than SS. Someone who loves batman and superman would easily defend BvS, suicide squad didn't have A-list characters that's why they didn't have an appeal because they're not very popular and also why people were disappointed with the lack of joker because he's so iconic but the actual squad isn't, not really pointing this towards grace but to other people, I respect people opinion but idk how one can see BvS being better than SS
I was thinking the exacg same thing. She seems to give movies like Ghost Busters and BvS a pass if they represent something she agrees with and goes in on films that don't. Just my observation
Heaven is a dirt nap you describe my joker comment pretty accurately, the movie is suicide squad not joker and Harley if you went to see the movie for joker then of course you'll be disappointed
Joel Nandlal I actually went to see it out of curiosity. If its not a Joker movie then don't have him in it. People love the Joker, and what's important is what the audience wants. That's why this movie sucked on many levels, it lacked interest.
Heaven is a dirt nap well that's kind of dumb its like saying "its a batman and Superman movie so don't have wonder woman in it" although joker didn't affect the suicide squad plot he was a nice addition to add to Harley back story and love life because she was one of the main characters in the movie. Your opinion is yours alone if you thought it sucked then no problem but for me it had interest, I wanted to know how each character progressed and they did that well for me, and they are bad guys their story arc is not what we are accustomed to so for some people it would feel weird but I loved it
How many times can you insult people with this video? Anyone who liked this movie has a short attention span. So if someone disagrees with your take on the movie doesn't love cinema and is blind to the editing?
+ekjudo honesty? She essentially called anyone who liked SS a 'social media junkie' and even after BvS she was kinda being one of the people saying BvS is too 'sophisticated' for people who didn't like it
Well it is a movies that is focused more on the casuals while BvS its literally pure comic book hardcore fans. She used more of a insulting word than explanation but I get what she is saying
+corrio zac ah sigh, again I'm not saying that's exactly what she said but that's what it comes across. You shouldn't generalize on one specific audience as there can be many reasons why people may like or dislike a movie
as a black man over 35 , who has never been in a gang and never texts in theaters.. I must say I'm appalled at graces comments... as a matter of fact I didn't see anybody in my theatre texting at all and most seemed to enjoy the movie. just admit that you and the critics we wrong..
Well Grace, Kudos to you, I didn't hated you in this video :). Interesting theory about the Warner experiment. I love the movie and I'm seeing it again tomorrow with my wife. Let's wait and see what happen in week 2... (I Just subscribed)
Grace, I do adore your TH-cam channel, and I've been following for many years now! It's nice to know we share a passion for films, and when I watch your videos it's a form of escapism for me. I suffer from OCD, and things can be tough sometimes, but watching your videos really do cheer me up! Thank you! Also, I agree, Lady Gaga should play Poison Ivy in a future Suicide Squad or Harley Quinn movie!
DC fans are defending this movie because they so so bad need a win that's how I look at the situation because if it was all about bully why people didn't defend Batman vs. Superman strongly me personally I think Batman vs Superman is way better than this movie
Yep, that's my stance basically. Even those who didn't watch the movie are just lambasting this movie for no reason just because it's the bandwagon thing to do.
i watched the film and i gotta say evem with is problems 27% is tp ridiculous...i say mid 70's it made me cry how much heary and soul were in chacters and the effects amd introductions alone were amazing!!! it was funny with decent actions scenes and surprises...and it made me cry lol twice for harley and el diblo...both lost something to them that im not going to spoil...and katana made me do the same editing was very good except for the jumpcuts that were minimal 3 i counted and the villan was interesting...how they both spoke. there effects it was soo good...joker have screen time..not as much but more than i expected atleast he appearances are spread out so it will make it seem he not in very much . he really made his mark in the beginging he was very present..plot was ok at best thou but how they worked with it was so interesting!!! music matched nicely and all flash back werent boreing judgeing by reviews from fans ..it really is a fan film lol this movie will be remembered and gain fame over the years..7.9/10 for me
A social media movie that allows you to eat popcorn and a massive soda and never have to worry about holding your bladder because the story is too compelling. This country is doing just fine.
Are critics already lined up to kill Wonder Woman whether it is good or not? Im guessing that they are but it will be interesting to see. There have been so many large discrepancies lately between the public and and movie reviewer crowds thats I dont think either one takes the other side seriously anymore. Its an interesting dynamic that is forming anyway.
Nah, I doubt because it will be the first superhero film in a while with a female main and feminism is a really big thing right now. I believe that should help it the same way it helped ghostbusters. But WW probably won't insult it's fan base, so it should do very well.
Genesis Casanova I don't wanna sound like a conspiracy theorist, but when you see headlines like, "Suicide Squad Sets Box Office Record Because We Don't Deserve Better Movies" it's not hard to believe some so called critics are just out there to bash the film. They would have you think it's the worst film they've ever watched which is laughable when you have ghostbusters for examples. Hell, the author of that article even thinks SS has bad acting, that's when you know she doesn't know what the hell she is talking about, but somehow someone still thinks she's a capable reviewer. Oh well.
I feel i should add, the same author of that article complained the Joker's text weren't "crazy" enough and according to her, there was a 5-10 minute scene of the joker trying to get the phone to harley. Like wtf is she smoking.
She is a bigger dc fan than a marvel fan..... She is just honest with the shit dc gave us with suicide squad..... A true dc fan didnt like suicide squad...... It was a fucking stupid movie for fucking stupid people just like batman and robin
Grace I love your reviews and I love that even though you don't like a movie, you don't make it personal and shit all over their fans like lots of other critics. I swear some critics really make it personal with how they feel about DC movies...
I personally thought that her initial "rant" was more of an "initial reaction", since after that she did make a video of 5 things she loved about the movie. Most folks I know who didn't initially like the movie grew to appreciate it afterwards after having some time to think about it. And maybe, just maybe, the positive reaction from the fans is helping sway public opinion?
You must have missed all the shit she pulled from BvS. She took it way too personal, attacking people and critics (and their wives) on twitter. I've been watching her for a decade but that crap put me off her for a while
+whfmantis I agree with you on that. I actually grew up a big Marvel fan but with the odd exception find the Marvel movies childish. I feel like I'm watching a Saturday morning cartoon.
Xray Shaun NO...wow I have been asked that so many times by people who are trying to be 'smart'. If you need a joke explained then it isn't funny anymore...this isn't sarcasm.
Something happened in my country a day before the Thursday midnight release that was a really big deal, and i think it could have happened in other countries including US, so i think it could be an important factor in the box office, i mean i would really like your opinion on this. It's kind of a long story, but i hope you read it, and get why i think it could have something to do with the overall BoxOffice. Ok, so in my country (I'm from México) there are two really big cinema chains (actually we only have those two, sorry XD) those two are CINEMEX and CINEPOLIS, so in my country if you want to see a movie you either go to a Cinepolis or a Cinemex, anyway, here in my country although the movie is from Warner Brothers Pictures, it's being distributed by Universal Pictures (don't know why, but that's the way it is) Anyway, the big thing that happened is that very late in Wednesday, like 11:45pm one of those two Cinema chains: CINEMEX, released a statement where they said that they were not going to play Suicide Squad on any of their theaters, and that all the tickets bought on pre sale where going to be refunded, with a plus of a 10 free tickets to watch any other movie in the future. That was a BIG BIG DEAL cause as i said, we only have two cinema chains and CINEMEX has more than 2,500 theaters in the whole country, while Cinepolis has 3,290 theaters in the whole country, it's basically like the 40% of the market in México. But even though Cinepolis has more theaters, people go more to Cinemex, that chain had sold more than 100,000 pre sale tickets to Suicide Squad already, so a lot of people were mad, and nobody knew why Cinemex decided not to show the movie, UNTIL TODAY. Today Cinemex released another statement and we found out why they decided not to show the movie, and the reason is that Universal had a previous deal with Cinemex and Cinepolis where they were going to take 45% of each ticket sold like they always do, but on Wednesday at the very last minute, and since the reviews of Suicide Squad were awful, Universal decided to change the terms to the agreement, deciding that they would take 55% of every ticket sold, Cinepolis agreed to the last minute terms, but Cinemex refused to those last minute terms, saying it was an abuse and that it would make it harder for them to gain any profit or at least get even in the investment, that's why on that same day very very late at night, almost 24hrs before the release of the movie, they told everybody that the movie was not going to be shown on any of their theaters. I think this could have happened globally, but obviously most cinemas just agree to the new terms and that's it, but Cinemex made a really big stand saying NO, here in my country everybody freaked out, it was all over the news. So i think that kinda has to do with the box offie right? Because if Warner is asking for more money of each ticket sale, obviously the box office is going to reflect with more money right? it's not the same 45% than 55%!!! I can give you links to the statements, but they're in spanish. Anyway i know you know a lot of cinema and i'm curious if this could have anything to do with a better Box Office for Suicide Squad, since i don't really know how they get the numbers or profits for the Box Office.
+Rondel Moore well there is more but I don't want to spoil anything, so right.... SPOILER ALERT FOR THE VILLAN her motivation was so cliche. She wants to ruin the world cos her and her brother, which looks like 2005 graphics, he was probably worse, and there plan was very just run of the mill villain like Doctor Doom in Fan4Stic
stephen moran Yeah I saw the movie. 2005 graphics??? LOL sure. But yes most villains just want to take over the world. Still a better villain than the majority in comic book movies.
Im a Marvel fan and have to say that Suicide Squad was good. Way better than critics said. Better than X-Men Apocalypse (which was okay). So far from the DCEU I liked Man of Steel despite everyone hating it including DC fans, hated BvS (and all its defenders) with a passion, but this is an enjoyable movie. Go watch it!
I'm a huge DC fan and I was very pleased with suicide squad. I actually loved it. I do agree that somethings could have been better but overall I absolutely loved it.
I'm one of those people that hated Suicide Squad when I first saw it (from the sheer disappointment) but ended up liking it the second time around after just accepting it for what it was. However, the iconic and stylistic nature of these characters being on screen (for some of them, the very first time) will probably drive sales in movie tickets for a few weeks, especially since no big blockbuster movie is coming out in that time as far as I know.
The Social Media as campaign definitely helped this film, those made-for-Instagram 20 second trailers with original footage were perfection! Aside from the choppy editing in some scenes and the villain's weak motivations, it was everything I like to see in a summer action adventure film with superheroes. I loved the character interactions as well as the humor and action. I also find it hilarious that the industry is trying to make excuses as to why the film is well received, I never thought I'd hear that. It reminded me a lot of Deadpool for that reason, except Deadpool was more focused (less subplots) and had a smaller cast.
watched it twice already, might go again eventually, and guess what... i don't have social media (other than youtube, does this count as social media?) i did find that offensive... so because i like the movie you assume i fall into a certain category of people with short attention spans? thats not right
No I don't think that's what she's saying. I took it as that's who it was marketed towards (lots of trailer hype, romanticizing harley and jokers relationship etc). I took it as appealing to the general audience instead of comic fans.
could be, but where you say "I took it as appealing to the general audience instead of comic fans" i would change "comic fans" to "movie fans". i've been reading comics (mainly dc comics) since the 80s and like this movie, everyone i know that is a comic fan like the movie. the negative opinions seem to come more from those that are more serious about movies
She's saying the Warner bro's execs and investors wanted to market the film to the youth of today that are all into social media and quick fixes w short attention spans; she said David Ayer originally made the film for fans, comic and cinema fans. I didn't know that... So I hope the extended cut is the actual intended version for cinema and comic fans... Hopefully
I hope so too. I know Ayer is saying that this is the movie he wanted and there is no directors/extended cut... but maybe that will change once the movie has already been out a while longer
Despite it's flaws, I was slightly disappointed in the movie as a film fan but still had a ton of fun watching some of my favorite characters come to life - I think it is overall a really fun movie. And no, I wasn't talking or texting during it at all.
I think when David Ayer (and some of the cast) are saying this is "for the fans" is actually more of a response to the low critical score as opposed to a strategic choice. The low scores have definitely really hurt it as I have several friends who have passed on seeing it based on reviews. I agree that the writing/directing should be given to someone else. Not familiar with the Deadshot character, but all I could think is that I wish he had done a ton of trick shots (both in his "audition" and his hero moment mowing down the zombies...like ricochet shots, over the shoulder, whatever to show his bad assery) but it was a missed opportunity among many missed opportunities. Here's hoping they keep the team and change writer/directors
You can only like it if you talk or text during the movie??? WTF!!! The first stupid comment i have ever heard from you. WOW! I'm surprised. I will watch it again on friday and i will not talk or text because i like it a lot
I went in today with very low expectations, especially after critics ravaged it. I see it as a decent film, not great but it kept me entertained all the way through. I do consider myself a cinemaphille, and yes, some of the edits were sloppy. But overall it was a B- summer blockbuster film.
After 2.5 years of watching some of her reviews, I've come to the conclusion she is a 30 year who acts like an arrogant teenager. Once something doesn't meet her expectations the video becomes consumed by a rant. Her spoiler review for this movie was mostly a 30 minute rant, with close to no discussion of the actual movie. In all honesty a fair amount of society are adult which never moved from a teenage mentality. Just look at day-to-day life, forums, and reality TV. All the signs are there in plain view for anyone paying attention. No one wants to be objective or empathize with things outside their comfort zone. Everything tends to lean toward extremes and hating opposing ideas without attempting to understand others.
+Petar Gulin To be truthful, I wasn't thinking globally when I asked that question. But yeah, worldwide matters too. Thank you for sharing that. Reddit is not where it is at. "Frontpage of The Internet" does mean the Front Step of the town square of the heartland or of The Continent.
Brian West I mean i have nothing against the page itself by any mean, i just wanted to point out that big portion of people who watched this movie and who will go and watch it this and next week don't even know what Reddit is , let alone read comments and opinons from it. Transformers are best example how critics and bad publicity really mean nothing , after 4 movies with choppy editing, awful acting, shitty plot guess what? They are making another movie ,why? Because that type of movie still has huge audience and still makes profit. As bad as some people act that BvS was or MoS both movies still made A LOT of money, not as much as they expected but still we talk about what? $ 278 000 000 of pure profit? That's crazy
Reddit is usually a pretty good representation of the target audiance for these kinds of movies (superhore/action). I wouldn't have brought up reddit for a movie like the kings speach. And they are certainly exactly the "social media generation" Grace kept hammering on about. You can be sure that word of mouth for this will be abismal and that it will drop hard.
and here's the thing about WB/dc... these movies getting bad reviews, being so controversial, and befuddling the trade rags feels more punk rock comic book to me than Marvel and Disney making movies that, and they're great movies too, are firmly and unquestionably accepted in the mainstream. DCEU is the outsider
Wow great analysis i just subscribed. I dont plan to see Suicide Squad this weekend. I rather see Star Trek first, but if i make it a double feature. Suicide Squad would be my second pick.
Grace question, hope you answer this question do you think they should have gone with an r rating for suicide squad, I enjoyed the film but sometimes I wanted it to go darker and that bit further. Deadpool did well with the r rating and would the box office had been the same for suicide squad with an r rating? Thanks love the work that you do 😄😄😄💀x💀❤️
I think it's the Harley factor, especially with us girls. She's fun, she's cool, she's the most popular in the squad - I think the Elsa comparison is spot on, in terms of draw.
I have a question. You mention the numbers from Friday and Saturday and the big drop off between the two days. The theaters in NM start "big" movies on Thursday. It used to be the Thursday showing was only at midnight but now they start them at 8 and have multiple showing. My experience is those who are really jazzed see the movie go on Thursday and Friday or in other words ASAP. With this being the case, it would make sense to me that the drop off would happen between Fri and Sat. So my question is this: Is it accurate to compare the number from Friday to Saturday when Fridays numbers, presumably factor in both Thursday and Friday?
Question Grace. Every movies boxoffice seems to drop over the second week, are there any movies that actually increased that number over the second week? I wondered since I watch your videos reguarly on both channels, keep up the good work! Regards Martijn 🙈😊🎬🎥🍿
Hi Grace, I saw Suicide Squad last Friday in the UK and i thought it was AMAZING. I loved this video because you recognised that people did like the film in comparison to other people who are dismissing the casual fans, so i respect you for that :D. Im really hoping that WB release an extended edition showing all the deleted scenes that were cut because i was so looking forward to that Harley and Joker Gun scene we saw in the leaked footage last year, plus all of the footage in the trailers that were not in the final cut. Do you think they will release a extended edition because i think if they did, it might change people opinions on it :D. Thank you Grace, Have a great day on the other side of the pond :D
VIEWER QUESTION FOR GRACE!: hi Grace! I was wondering what you thought of Disney having two blockbuster movies in the same month next year. Guardians of the Galaxy2, and Pirates 5. I know that there potentially doing this in November but it kinda concerns me. Also, do you think pirates 5 (having ghost in it) will get a China release after what happened to ghostbusters? Love you, and your show keep up the good work, have a great day
I haven't finished watching yet but I love how you put it in the first 3 minutes being 'social media friendly'. Funny enough I thought about the movie last night and came to a realization, this movie is the comic book version of Expendables. It's just a 'shoot em up' movie, with little to know plot or story, that's designed for excitement and not storytelling. As a matter of fact I even said if they gave this movie a different title, replace the comic book names with original ones, and never call it a comic book movie, but just simply a movie, I think it would have gotten a better response, because then there would be no expectation, just a good time (where the Expendables comparison comes in). The negative response is only because it's a known names, with known characters, of a known comic book, so it therefore created not just expectations, but high expectations, but couldn't deliver
I absolutely loved Suicide Squad! I can't wait to see it again as soon as possible. In my theatre no one was talking or texting, everyone seemed to have a great time with it.
Always love your analyses. For me, SS stylistically felt like a mash-up of Sin City and Scott Pilgrim. and I loved every minute of it. Seen every DCEU movie twice in theaters, this will be at least a threepeat 😝
You just stated T-Mobile customers had free tickets on Friday...which explains the 41% drop from Friday to Saturday. Also Tax free weekend for a lot of states was this weekend in several states in support of back to school shopping. With these two factors in play, the 41% droop is expected.
Grace, Suicide Squad left me stunned, but the end credit scene really put it over the top. It felt incredibly easy to reinterpret the entire scene as what will happen for the DCEU as a whole. Bruce Wayne: "You need to shut down this team. We'll take care of it" Am I the only one that sees that scene as saying Justice League is in a way a mulligan?
I think people who dislike the movie wanted it to be something else than what it was. Kinda like thinking that The Revenant was about hunting game and judging it on how much it matched that thought. Here are examples of what I mean: 1.Joker is not my version of the Joker 2. Plot was simplistic 3. I didn't like Enchantress and she moves funny The Joker is what he is; a mob boss. The tats are no different than having "bling" or other means of expression. The plot is the plot and the only question that need answering is if its enough to warrant actions in the film. Enchantress acting funny did not, in any way, take away from anything else established in the film. Whats the difference between "lock and pop" and sulking in the shadows beyond a personal preference? Again, we need to look at things within a movie within the context of the movie and not on how closely it matched a personal preference/vision/wish-list. P.S. I didn't like all the strange editing choices, though, since it hurt the transitions.
Saw suicide squad on Saturday, we all enjoyed it a lot. Yes we will be going again this week because the theatre had been selling out and we weren't able to see it in 3D yet so we are gunna wait a few days to go a second Time. Love your videos btw!
i forgot to mention that i have been contacting everyone i know and posting good reviews on TH-cam for people to go see this movie. That is how much I believe in the DCEU.
The problem I have with Suicide Squad, while I did like it and i do plan on seeing it again, is that I feel like I got a different product than I was promised. Almost none of the trailer scenes, many of which I was SO pumped about, were cut from the movie! Specifically the Harley/joker flashbacks. I feel like they promised these scenes in the trailers that amped people up, and then delivered a different movie than was advertised. Like I said, I still enjoyed it; however I think I could have enjoyed it more. Overall, B-.
What's most hilarious is the fact that a $70mil budgeted Deadpool gave us better action/fight sequences (not to mention an infinitely greater movie going experience) than a $175mil budgeted Suicide Squad!
I don't anticipate a drop as big as BvS in the 2nd wkd. BvS was loved by some but reviled by many more. (Also last weekend was the start of The Olympics.) Suicide Squad however is getting traction with women and minorities and perhaps most importantly, youth. My 25 yr old friend who I went with LOVED it. I think it will holdover, or at worst be like "Zootopia" holding wise, staying in the top ten forever. Not as big box office as that film, but just as much legs. It's just a feeling on my part. Fans and critics might have quibbles with Suicide Squad, but Joe Jane, Juan and DeJuan on the street are digging it.
Grace, I think the free T-Mobile tickets played a very small part in this weekends box office numbers for Suicide Squad. Look at Warcraft, another movie that T-mobile gave out free tickets for and its opening weekend in the States was horrid. WB had a strong advertisement campaign. Legendary didn't due much in their Warcraft adverts sadly.
I'll give this a C- there was a few bright spots like the actor chemistry and some real neat visuals but it fell really flat in alot of places and the constant on-the-noseness at time( they must've said they were bad guys like a hundred times) became grating and annoying.
hi grace, I finally saw Suicide Squad Monday and I have to say you are selling this film short in my opinion. this movie has beaten out the likes of Eddie the eagle, civil war, Zootopia, BvS, and the jungle book (among others) for my favorite film of 2016 (so far). while that is a personal opinion, I still firmly believe that Suicide Squad is a truly great movie. While it does have a paper thin plot and killer croc is bad overall I loved it! It had a real sense of identity. the music really added to the film. The characters were all great, especially the joker and Harley Quinn, whose portrayals here did not match the comics but were fresh and fun. the justice league cameos and the callbacks to classic Harley and Mistah J from the comics were very fun for a DC fan like myself, and way more entertaining than BvS. Overall it was a fun movie and I don't understand why we cannot look at the film as such. not every release needs to win an Oscar or appeal to every one who steps into a theatre. But that's just my opinion of course, and everyone is entitled to their own. Thanks for making such good content here on your channel, I watch your videos almost every day!
I really hope Suicide Squad doesn't encourage studios to cut other movies like this. It was frustrating to watch as a film lover, and as I comic book fan my excitement at finally seeing these character on screen did not make the mediocrity of the story okay. I am NOT going to see it again.
The first day made money due to pre-opening ticket sales. The drop was due to negative critic response and people waiting to see what their friends would say about it before seeing the film.
Hey grace! love your channel! Hope to see you talking about the confirmation on the develop of a Man of Steel sequel and how do you think the DC slate will be in the next feel years... do you think that Shazam will show up or just a cameo in justice league 2?
Grace, repeat after me: You can be a film lover and still love Suicide Squad. You can be a film lover and still love Suicide Squad. You can be a film lover and still love Suicide Squad.
so apparently MoS 2 is rumored to be in the works Grace. will you make a separate video about it in terms of where you'd like to see them do/take superman?
I loves this movie. I wasn't talking or texting during it either, Grace -- what an outlandish remark. This movie had my complete attention despite its flaws.
not in my theater...
Same
My theatre was quiet too. We were paying attention. Hey imax is expensive.
There will always be some asshats who do, but most people have some common courtesy, even if they don't like the movie
Yeah it's kinda insulting to say you can only like movie if you're a certain type of person (in this case a person of talks or texts)
Strong point of the movie is the characters. The villain was the weakest point. But not enough to ruin the experience.
did you think Cara delivnge was the weak part portraying The Enchantress or was it the structure of the character itself?
please edit out your comment its a spoiler for people that havent been yet
I feel like I've never truly known movies until finding your channel Grace xD
Aw! :)
Please don't compare 89%, 2 time Academy Award winning, billion dollar Frozen with Suicide Squad. Suicide Squad had amazing trailers and a flawless promotional campaign thats it.
Please don't plug a lame Disney movie in order to bash this badass film.
yeh its rediculous to compare the two, Frozen was under the rader compared to suicide squad
That is clearly a minority option.
"2 time Academy Award winning"
Yeah for a song and for animated movie which it should have lost to The Wind Rises.
Frozen is dog shet
Also I thought suicide squad was really good, I give it an A- or B+
I totally agree it's a B+ for me. Not the dark movie I was hoping for but extremely fun and stylish.
Yeah I really enjoyed the movie like a lot lol
I agree as well. My friend and I loved it. It had some problems, but overall I laughed and enjoyed the movie. Amanda Waller made me gasp!! Bravo!!!
Yeah it was great!
You suck
To be honest, I think that Suicide Squad is REALY GOOD. A Great Start for the DC Extended Universe.
craig harris Yes I know. Peace.
In the UK both Deadpool and Suicide Squad had an age rating of 15.
Yeah I know right , I'm 15 but got kicked out because I needed to show my id .....I was so pissed so I went to another theatre and saw it haha. ( I'm talking about SS not deadpool , I saw that in theatre ;))
My brother barely got into Suicide Squad which is surprising as it's only PG-13 in the US apparently.
+Flimpeen Flarmpoon I know .... It's confusing to how it's a 15 here 🤔
+Fraser Mcgowan the exact same thing happened to me, I'm 15 and the AMC ID'ed me and I had no ID so they didn't let me in. Had to go to a different cinema, saw it in the end though.
+Tiegan O'Connor yeah , it's so f****** annoying ain't it ? They wanted my passport but who the hell thinks of bringing their passport lol
The movie is a C+. I don't care how fun it is, there was too much false advertising, the editing was terrible, and the villain/plot was poorly executed.
If more of you were honest with yourselves, many of you would realize that you only like this because it's the first DCEU movie that isn't awful.
+lucariomew365 man you sound like her....you need to realize people generally love it !! and your opinion isnt law..even with its flaws it dosent deserve that low
Arnez Juggins
I understand that other people like it, but I'm referring to a very specific group of people.
Gui Deandrade I didn't reply to you at all.
Your opinion is yours alone if you thought it sucked then no problem but for me it had interest, I wanted to know how each character progressed and they did that well for me, and they are bad guys their story arc is not what we are accustomed to so for some people it would feel weird but I loved it
I always appreciate Grace how you are able to separate the personal and the analysis, not many reviewers do this. Keep it coming!
How many times can you insult people with this video? Anyone who liked this movie has a short attention span. So if someone disagrees with your take on the movie doesn't love cinema and is blind to the editing?
For real. Very arrogant of her to say that
Wait so are you saying if you liked suicide squad, then you're the type of person to go on your phone while being in a screening cos that's ridiculous
+ekjudo well if you look at other comments, other people seem to feel that she did
+ekjudo honesty? She essentially called anyone who liked SS a 'social media junkie' and even after BvS she was kinda being one of the people saying BvS is too 'sophisticated' for people who didn't like it
Well it is a movies that is focused more on the casuals while BvS its literally pure comic book hardcore fans. She used more of a insulting word than explanation but I get what she is saying
+corrio zac ah sigh, again I'm not saying that's exactly what she said but that's what it comes across. You shouldn't generalize on one specific audience as there can be many reasons why people may like or dislike a movie
+corrio zac all in saying is what she said come across bad
as a black man over 35 , who has never been in a gang and never texts in theaters.. I must say I'm appalled at graces comments... as a matter of fact I didn't see anybody in my theatre texting at all and most seemed to enjoy the movie. just admit that you and the critics we wrong..
Movies are subjective.
They just announced a Man Of Steel sequel.
Yay 😒 maybe they'll get it right this time. 👍
+caseythehuman if they get George Miller to direct it's game on!
Waste of money!
+caseythehuman It was good the first time.
I still haven't seen man of steel or batman v superman 😁
Well Grace, Kudos to you, I didn't hated you in this video :). Interesting theory about the Warner experiment. I love the movie and I'm seeing it again tomorrow with my wife. Let's wait and see what happen in week 2... (I Just subscribed)
Thanks so much for subscribing! Have fun with your wife for SS Round 2!
+Beyond The Trailer y r u so pretty!?
+- VIZKRO - lucky genetics and attention to overall health.
Suicide Squad a generic movie for the dumb down millennial generation smh
+Jariel Rodriguez hating dc exclusively as a trending theme might attract the same lot of people.
oooohhhhhhh....... The editor is the same guy who made the trailers... that explains a lot.
Glad the fans are supporting the franchise. I hope for success in the DCEU ala Marvel so that I can enjoy the films.
Herer here best for both franchises
yeah I'm happy it turn out to be a fan film too
LMAO @ "The Snapchat movie!" - We love you, Grace!
I saw this movie for the second time yesterday and I actually liked it even more.
Same here!! I think I'm gonna watch it a third time too! LOL!
which movie?
Suicide Squad.
me too I actually liked it very much
Grace, I do adore your TH-cam channel, and I've been following for many years now! It's nice to know we share a passion for films, and when I watch your videos it's a form of escapism for me. I suffer from OCD, and things can be tough sometimes, but watching your videos really do cheer me up! Thank you! Also, I agree, Lady Gaga should play Poison Ivy in a future Suicide Squad or Harley Quinn movie!
people are defending the movie because people dont like bullies. theyre defending it because its being bullied.
Defending what?
DC fans are defending this movie because they so so bad need a win that's how I look at the situation because if it was all about bully why people didn't defend Batman vs. Superman strongly me personally I think Batman vs Superman is way better than this movie
+king Dreamville i didnt love BvS. Suicide Squad had alot of problems but i thought it wasnt as bad as critics said
Yep, that's my stance basically. Even those who didn't watch the movie are just lambasting this movie for no reason just because it's the bandwagon thing to do.
i watched the film and i gotta say evem with is problems 27% is tp ridiculous...i say mid 70's it made me cry how much heary and soul were in chacters and the effects amd introductions alone were amazing!!! it was funny with decent actions scenes and surprises...and it made me cry lol twice for harley and el diblo...both lost something to them that im not going to spoil...and katana made me do the same
editing was very good except for the jumpcuts that were minimal 3 i counted and the villan was interesting...how they both spoke. there effects it was soo good...joker have screen time..not as much but more than i expected atleast he appearances are spread out so it will make it seem he not in very much
.
he really made his mark in the beginging he was very present..plot was ok at best thou but how they worked with it was so interesting!!! music matched nicely and all flash back werent boreing judgeing by reviews from fans ..it really is a fan film lol this movie will be remembered and gain fame over the years..7.9/10 for me
A social media movie that allows you to eat popcorn and a massive soda and never have to worry about holding your bladder because the story is too compelling.
Its an interesting dynamic that is forming anyway.
no because with WW if they don't like it they're sexist. WW has the Ghostbuster armor.
Nah, I doubt because it will be the first superhero film in a while with a female main and feminism is a really big thing right now. I believe that should help it the same way it helped ghostbusters. But WW probably won't insult it's fan base, so it should do very well.
DC will get shit on by critics but look at Ghostbusters reviews and the Suicide Squad- kind of weird font you think.
My assumption is that Sausage Party is going to out-gross Suicide Squad
yeah , SS is gonna suffer from a huge drop .
not a chance
When Grace says she is a DC fan xD hahahahahaha
She is a DC Fan and liked BvS
JJ Knight she bashed the movie in most of her videos
She is a bigger dc fan than a marvel fan..... She is just honest with the shit dc gave us with suicide squad..... A true dc fan didnt like suicide squad...... It was a fucking stupid movie for fucking stupid people just like batman and robin
rickychardzz she liked antman -_- which is the most stupid comicbook movie ever !! so shut up
rickychardzz on the other side she didn't lie justice league set visit report
I appreciate Grace saying Sausage Party so many times. Laughed my balls off. Cheers!!
Grace I love your reviews and I love that even though you don't like a movie, you don't make it personal and shit all over their fans like lots of other critics. I swear some critics really make it personal with how they feel about DC movies...
It's my pleasure! And thanks for that, I'm glad you noticed and appreciated it.
I've been watching her for a decade but that crap put me off her for a while
You must have missed when Frozen came out, she still wont let that go. Reason it was used as her bad movie that makes money example.
Enough about suicide squad, because the movie NERVE and BAD MOMS were really good!
I've noticed that DC is really good at hyping movies, but marvel is better at delivering good ones.
Marvel is good at making films for children.
+whfmantis marvel is good at making movies for everyone.
+whfmantis I agree with you on that. I actually grew up a big Marvel fan but with the odd exception find the Marvel movies childish. I feel like I'm watching a Saturday morning cartoon.
+The King of Zamunda I feel the same way. Its generic, non threatening villains, full of jokes.
+whfmantis agreed
Grace I always come across your channel here and there, I finally subscribed today! Totally like your reviews and style! Keep it up :-)
I saw it 4 times ...seeing it again this week 💖💖🤘🏼
ALSO watching it the second time around made me like it more ....it's seriously better the second time around!! Try it guys 🙌🏽🙌🏽
+SarcasmServedDaily is this part of your daily serving of sarcasm?
Xray Shaun NO...wow I have been asked that so many times by people who are trying to be 'smart'. If you need a joke explained then it isn't funny anymore...this isn't sarcasm.
+SarcasmServedDaily yeah. being asked this question is the fault of the person asking. not the person picking the username.
makes perfect sense
and jut for the record, I was agreeing with you having seen it twice.
cool your beans love
I loved this movie so much. I feel out of the loop on why it was bad lol
Also, yes! My uncle is taking me to see it again next weekend.
+TheFBoner lol
Critics said the story and the editing were sloppy.
Alex Meyer i agree in some ways but the godd out did the bad
@@illusionofartYT what was the good?
That high budget came from music. Soooo much music.
I watched it twice already and it works
💚I LOVED IT, BUT THE VILLAN WAS MEEHHHH😜
The main villain was my favorite part of the movie
+Jessethegoodwitch 😊Well that's good man, glad you enjoyed her. I just thought her little dancing in the end was just laudable😂😂
Her one short dancing like scene made you not like the character?
+Rondel Moore well there is more but I don't want to spoil anything, so right....
SPOILER ALERT FOR THE VILLAN
her motivation was so cliche.
I have to disagree with you on how this movie is amazing
Love these type of analysis / industry prediction videos, thanks grace!
I saw it twice once in imax and second time in 3D I truly enjoyed it. Liked it more then deadpool. Give it a B.
Dude
Which format was better for someone's viewing pleasure?
+1Atlkid I enjoyed 3D more
wow i watched it in 2d and has a blast
Despite it's flaws, I was slightly disappointed in the movie as a film fan but still had a ton of fun watching some of my favorite characters come to life - I think it is overall a really fun movie. And no, I wasn't talking or texting during it at all.
Suicide Squad hopes that it does not get a large drop off in its second week.
I love watching your videos so much Grace!!! it makes me feel very knowledgeable about the industry!!!
me and my friends are seeing it again. I really loved the movie definitely pre-ordering the Blu-ray
Jesus Christ. We're almost at the end of 2016 and Grace still can't let the Frozen haterdom go.
I went in today with very low expectations, especially after critics ravaged it. I see it as a decent film, not great but it kept me entertained all the way through. I do consider myself a cinemaphille, and yes, some of the edits were sloppy. But overall it was a B- summer blockbuster film.
same i said about taht range too...tbh the cuts were minaminal...three i counted but it dosent deserve 24%
I died laughing at that Sausage Party poster.
I found it rude what she said about people who liked it and kinda of arrogant
What? I wore deodorant.
***** to the wizard of oz of course
I love your videos Grace ! Also I love your nails by the way !
don't know why their were shocked, it was a piss poor movie
yeah if your talking fans majority loved it
I'm a fan and a critic, I think the movie was shit, but I still liked it.
1LIFEtoWIN What lol
I already watched it 3 times. It's amazing and hilarious but I do believe that editing must re-evaluate.
in what circles are you running, Grace? the whole of reddit HATED this movie. it will drop hard in week 2.
Does everybody on the street know what reddit is though?
I'm from Europe and i can confirm that half of people here have no clue what reddit is
+Petar Gulin To be truthful, I wasn't thinking globally when I asked that question.
Numbers don't lie. Great review. I'm glad to see you giving credit where credit is due! I"m going to see it AGAIN in 3-D
Suicide squad was a disaster
and here's the thing about WB/dc... these movies getting bad reviews, being so controversial, and befuddling the trade rags feels more punk rock comic book to me than Marvel and Disney making movies that, and they're great movies too, are firmly and unquestionably accepted in the mainstream. DCEU is the outsider
Wow great analysis i just subscribed. I dont plan to see Suicide Squad this weekend. I rather see Star Trek first, but if i make it a double feature. Suicide Squad would be my second pick.
Thanks for subscribing!
Grace question, hope you answer this question
do you think they should have gone with an r rating for suicide squad, I enjoyed the film but sometimes I wanted it to go darker and that bit further. Deadpool did well with the r rating and would the box office had been the same for suicide squad with an r rating?
Thanks love the work that you do 😄😄😄💀x💀❤️
Lol. Effortlessly insulting Grace. You're just the best!
FYI to the world: I'll be watching Suicide Squad again in weekend 2. "Follow me...."
I'll watch Suicide Squad again but I'll wait for the bluray. Also, another excellent Box Office video Grace. Keep 'em coming!
Thank you Grace, Have a great day on the other side of the pond :D
basically it's the old case of people not giving a shit about what critics say.
Love you, and your show keep up the good work, have a great day
I thought it was "okay". I was surprised to hear people walking out of the theater exclaim how much they loved it.
Here are examples of what I mean:
1.Joker is not my version of the Joker
2. Plot was simplistic
3. I didn't like Enchantress and she moves funny
The Joker is what he is; a mob boss.
The reshoots and changes WB made might have factored into the overall cost. Hopefully that doesn't hurt Rogue One...
i forgot to mention that i have been contacting everyone i know and posting good reviews on TH-cam for people to go see this movie. That is how much I believe in the DCEU.
It'll be a cold day in hell before I pay to watch a movie in 3d.
It wasn't the wardrobe that was expensive. It was Will Smith and Jared Leto.
The acting overall was really solid, it just suffered from some BvS {orBS} editing.
hi grace, I finally saw Suicide Squad Monday and I have to say you are selling this film short in my opinion. this movie has beaten out the likes of Eddie the eagle, civil war, Zootopia, BvS, and the jungle book (among others) for my favorite film of 2016 (so far). while that is a personal opinion, I still firmly believe that Suicide Squad is a truly great movie.
Hi Grace, I really thinking about to wait till the Blue Ray comes out, because of the extras.
I saw it twice, and I plan on going again. And I saw it in 3D and IMAX both times. It was a fun time and I wasn't bored once during the movie
Grace, repeat after me: You can be a film lover and still love Suicide Squad. You can be a film lover and still love Suicide Squad. You can be a film lover and still love Suicide Squad.
I was paying attention ! I was entertained !
I wanted to see this yesterday but i think I'm going tomorrow!!! Thanks for the recommendation grace I'm seeing it in 3D
so apparently MoS 2 is rumored to be in the works Grace. will you make a separate video about it in terms of where you'd like to see them do/take superman?
I'm almost more excited for the blue ray extended cut, because there was a lot on the cutting room floor.
