I agree. I like the shorter right to the point type videos...you are right every other review channel goes way into too much detail with interior and exterior crap that nobody cares about. Honestly none of the reviews mean anything on new vehicles because they're new, they're under warranty, anything goes wrong it gets fixed free by the dealer...all I really care about is if something will still be moving on its own power in 10-20 years, so new car reviews are 100% useless for people like me who don't buy new stuff.
@@TruckKing no man, thank you for delivering good unbiased content. As the channel grows, you’ll start getting approached by various manufacturers. I can only hope that you remain true. Ronny Dahl and Andrew White (for example) may not have the financial support that that most of the sell outs do, but they have the respect and love of the people which in turn made them legends. Some things are simply more important than money.
I love the rear sliding window personally, it’s unique and helps air out the cab on hot days quite nicely. I love that Army Green color y’all tested, I’m a combat vet so the color resonates. I own a 2017 crew max Tundra that is Inferno colored. Love the color but I agree Cavalry Blue is my favorite! Again it just resonates even more since I was a Cavalry Scout, I think I need one!!!
That's my favorite part about my 4Runner! Also, it's handy for moving big objects. I was helping my parents move some furniture yesterday, and there was one more piece I want to put in but the hatch wouldn't close. Just rolled the rear window down, and that did the trick LOL.
I get my TUNDRA TRD OFF ROAD on August 15th. I have owned big 3 crap and switched to Toyota in 04. Every single Toyota has been absolutely dead reliable. The best being my 13 TRD SPORT Tacoma. I tow a 5000 pound RV and the Tundra is no worse towing than my Tacoma as far as fuel consumption goes. My favorite color is VOODOO blue but my new Tundra is Barcelona Red because blue is NA for 2020. I expect my TRD OFF ROAD to be a better tow vehicle than the PRO. I may buy an aftermarket rear locker for my truck next year.
They are super reliable which is the appeal. I have had 4. All went well over 200k before I switched to something else with only one ever needing anything other than regular maintenance. Good solid trucks with a great resale. My 2004 TRD Off Road Tacoma Xtra Cab was my favorite although my 83 and my 2007 FJ were a ton of fun also. They all took me to so many amazing places a car wouldn't have. Freedom!
My next truck is probably going to be a Toyota as well. I don't need a full size so I'm probably gonna get a Tacoma. I've owned mostly GM products, but their reliability is subpar.
While I will be the first to note that aside from aesthetic differences, my 07 Tundra and the newest models are essentially the same truck, there is something to be said for reliability. I don't feel like I need any of the fancy options other than adding a backup camera, which I did on my own, but in all the time I've had it, it's never been in the shop. I do my own maintenance, but it's just needed the usual filters, gas and go. Now I've modded mine too, which these trucks are like the lego/glock of the truck world if you love mods. Everybody makes something for a Tundra! I did a 6" lift, 35s, armored bumper, the usual performance mods and it's one of the most fun trucks I've ever owned full stop. Yeah, mpg sucks balls; I get about 12 combined and don't expect much more for my driving style. I wouldn't say no to an 8 speed transmission for highway runs, but I seriously doubt Toyota will keep the 5.7 for the next model update. If you want a V8, get one now brothers!
I prefer the cement color. I have a 2016 trd pro in quicksand and I've never had a single problem with it. I added the firestone airbags to get rid of the squat. I like being able to roll the back window down. I roll all the windows down when I go trout fishing in the summer time. It's nice having all that air come through the cab down here in the southeast.
that rear window (when rolled down along with the 2 front windows) easily eliminates that “wind bass” noise u get that bother your ears when cruising highway speed
Steven Venuto Wish I had the sliding rear window but I’m glad I don’t have it cause everything in my bed blows into truck with the smaller one that just slides left to right.
Good review- I wish someone would do a underbelly comparison to this truck and other conventionals. Rear shock placement, rock guards on rear axle ubolts, welded rear axle construction, standard skidplates throughout. This truck (all tundras) are designed to be very effective off-road. Not to mention extremely beefy front end components for a half ton. Rack and pinion steering. These things take abuse and are very low maintenance. These are things that matter in a truck, not whether or not your getting 2 mpg better because your engine shuts down half its cylinders. We have a 2007 and a 2017 for work trucks and they both pass yearly safety with zero issues, do the work very well (Tow 10k regularly) and All we do is regular maintenance. These are awesome trucks, dont let the lack of fancy electronics fool you.
Trailer brakes. You should never tow without dedicated trailer brakes On anything over a few thousand lbs, in my opinion. The brakes on these trucks are greAt though, with large 4 piston brakes up front and big rotors. I think the rotors are about 14.5” on the trucks. I have my trucks registered for 8500 kgs, so legally I can tow/ carry about 5800 kgs. Assuming i dont overload axle weights/payload truck or/trailer. I also have a extra 800lbs of leaf spring in both my tundras (Very cost effective upgrade if you tow a lot)
Trailer brake controller is in a tundra. The brakes themselves need to be on the trailer axles and wired to your 7 prong. Not every trailer comes with brakes
You guys are awesome with these videos. By far, the best automotive channel ever. I hate to compare but other TH-cam channels are so boring with too many bias reviews toward their sponsors. Truck King is very real and unbiased reviews.
Great videos!! There is a switch to the left of the steering wheel for bed lighting. I have this truck and one other pro is it's turn radius is best in class which is great for off road and daily parking.
WIth a camper shell, the full window going down is so awesome. You can sleep on platform with feet sticking through window, you can crawl into cab to drive away sketchy situation, the ac and heater will heat the whole thing fast. Its awesome.
Followed you over from TFL, great to see you still doing these offroad reviews! Nobody else sends these things quite like you! As far as the TRD color, it's a tough call. My favorites are voodoo, quicksand, and cement. I think they're really only special on the 4Runners though, because on the Tundra and the Tacoma, this year's TRD special color is next year's new color option across the line. On the 4Runner, it's a Pro color, and then it's gone. That said, I think my pick would be a quicksand 4Runner. I never even looked at or cared about 5th gen 4Runners, however the first time I saw a Quicksand 4Runner sitting on my local dealer's lot, I was like wow! yeah, I would totally drive that.
Reasons for a drop down rear window: 1.Drop down window is a must in the 4Runner bc it allows you to carry lumber that is 12 to 16 feet long. 2. Rear drop down window on a Tundra great for when you live in climates that are normally north of 100 degrees. Get in the car 🔥 inferno immediately open all windows, blast AC, let heat escape while doing burn outs to create more turbulent airflow to prevent passing out from heat. This is my routine multiple times of day just to exist in Texas and Florida 3. Rear drop down window on Tundra perfect for camper hardtop shell’s so you have access to the inside of the truck without having to go outside. 4. Love the rear window in the 4Runner for when you have backed into parking space up against a wall, still allows access to the rear of the vehicle 🙏 ✊ 👍
I love my Tundra 4x4. My SR5 crew max has led lights in the bed. I was thinking all the Tundras did. I like the opening rear window. Very good air flow on cool days
I use the rear sliding window for all weather temps. Summer helps filter air, winter I like to put the heater on and bring the window 1/8 down (little crack). Really helps with filtering air in cab.
I have this exact truck. How could liking the rear sliding window even be a debate? It’s awesome and one of the best features of the tundra. Great for long fishing rods, lumber, ladders etc. it’s a great option to have and I love it. People compliment the rear window roll down all the time. Why wouldn’t you want it to slide all the way down.
The Tundra Crewmax rear window is a selling point, vs the tiny sliding window on the Ford that they made such a big deal about. The Ford's window looks silly. Also, if you want to tow properly on any truck with over a 5000k pound load, you really need a weight distribution hitch. I'd also recommend airbags if you are concerned about squat appearance. I've had this setup on two different Tundra TRD Pro's and have towed a 7500 lb dry-weight travel trailer about 10,000 miles through out the USA. My whole rig is just around 15,000 pounds fully loaded on that CAT scale. Gas mileage is the only downside on the Tundra or any rig for that matter,
Following Steven from TFL. I hope your channel does well! Cavalry Blue for sure! Even my wife says how she likes that color when we see a Toyota in it. I love the rear window but I also love a sunroof and window down driving.
Hey Man, another great video from you, kindly keep them coming, my color is Quicksand. I totally agree with your Dad 100 % regarding the power train and fuel consumption, I hope Toyota takes his advice, especially with the Diesel engine, it's long overdue.
Super fun video. Would be excited to see you put a 2020 Ranger through these same paces. Know you did a fair amount on TFL, but this seems like another level. Keep it up TK. These are great.
We just picked up a 2008 Tundra Crewmax SR5 with the TRD Offroad package and already put 1000kms of the smoothest quietest driving. About 60km of decent offroad use too. That back window circulates air without making wind in the cab so well and allows me to adjust fuel cans for the thirsty girl lmao I am just poking fun, it gets the same mileage as my brother in law and his 2018 Ram 5.7. It could be better obviously but it is an absolute beauty all around.
good video Steven I will take the Toyota build quality and reliability over a few mpgs and a 8,9,10 speed auto, the competition spends more time back at the dealership than Toyota and Toyota has proven it can do the off road part the same as the big 3 and the components are far more rugged and you test them better than most out there in the youtube world you can shit kick the Tundra 6 speed auto and still work you proved that with the 4 Runner winter video, dude that just rocked, no body has come close to that, my buddy has a 2018 Tundra TRD and has put 30,000km on it in the last 2 winters and we are in Manitoba so get what you do and lots more temperature extremes and lots of ice fishing and snowmobiling and it hasn't let us down yet and he does not baby his truck , he definitely keeps up the maintenance on it and it sounds great when you put your foot into it. 👍
I don't have a TRD Pro, but I have a 2020 SR5 Tundra, Bench seat, 8ft bed. And I absolutely love it. My only issue is I WISH it had a floor shift 4wd being a work truck/toy. I have noticed, that unlike GM and Dodge, the on the fly 4wd isn't really on the fly and can be hesitant to engage while driving, which is unfortunate in bad weather conditions. Once in 4wd though it is an absolute monster in snow and mud. Being very old school, it is the perfect combination of modern creature comforts, but it having the same drive/power train with no major changes over the decades, gives me comfort in old school, hearty almost "Old Truck" feeling of reliability like I love from my 4 other trucks, them being a 75GMC k2500 Camper Special, 80 k5 Blazer, 77 k10 Suburban and 84 Custom Deluxe K20. Tundra's are very under appreciated trucks.
Yeah payload is low as I assume she is made to be soft for gravel roads. The normal double cab model as 1320 or 1290 with the 8’ box. More likely that version would be the working mans truck. Also the window in back is useful for dog owners or people vacationing with the family on nice days.
Love the rear window able to open it remotely way better than those tiny square ones, one a nice day open it a little open ur driver window n you’ll get a nice n cool breeze
Glad I found this channel when I saw you moved on from TFL. I really enjoy the chemistry you and the old man have. I think the rear sliding window is cool. Don't have to worry about missing when I throw my empty cans out the back. /s. In all seriousness do you get the low pressure "womp womp" noise when just the rear window is open at highway speeds?
I have a Tundra, and I can confirm that there is NO buffeting when you have the rear window open. One of my favorite ways to drive in the summer is with sunroof and all windows (including back) open. Works well for city speeds, it's the next best thing to a convertible. On the highway, if you keep all the side windows closed, but open the sunroof and the rear window about halfway, air gets drawn in through the sunroof and out the back window, a great way to get airflow without being too noisy.
I for one actually think that rear window is a nice touch. The reason I like it over a sunroof is I am 6' 3" and i usually struggle with headroom in vehicles, pickup trucks included. So I can rarely order them with a sunroof as it takes 3/4" - 1" away from the headroom. This is a nice solution for me and feel it would lean me towards a Tundra (If they EVER refresh the darn thing LOL!)
I would still choose the f150 for all around truck as I will tow 7-8000 lbs a few times a year over mountains, and go down logging roads etc. the only thing I fan boy about is the rear window with the tundra... I would however buy the tundra if I didn’t have a carcane problem. I can’t keep anything 🤷🏼♂️ life is about the spice!
Truck bed anchor points need to be lowered. Its hard to secure small loads of lumber without the ability to apply down pressure with ratchet straps. Even adding an addition set lower like Honda Ridgeline would be more useful.
I searched for months for a new all purpose truck and it came down to the the TRD pro and the Pro4x. The main reason I ended up doing the Pro4x was the squat. Our rv has 640lb tongue weight and the tundra was way too low even for a weight distribution hitch. And that was with nothing in the bed and nobody in the truck. The dealer just let me hook it up so I could see. I’m not brand loyal to anyone. I’ve had a couple fords and a Ram and I was actually really interested in a trail boss with the 6.2 but they were really hard to find and didn’t have many discounts. A loaded one was significantly over my price range. After seeing them in person just wasn’t worth going over for.
I don't think I would go with the TRD PRO. Based on the towing/payload. All that motor and gears for me should have better numbers. Like the color. Probably more in your dad's camp when it comes to extras. Maybe too much. I have a solid and straight 1977 W200 that is a beast of a work truck along with a rust free 1998 jeep Grand Cherokee I just bought for my daily driver. Followed you over from TFL. Enjoying your guys videos.
The one thing you don't mention is the trade off for fuel milage is the Tundra is the MOST of ALL makes, Reliable, Dependable and Highest Resale. I'll sacrifice the extra dollars at the pump. Proud 2017 SR5 Magnetic Grey owner!
Toyota doing away with the 5.7 is going to be a terrible move. I understand their planned twin turbo v6, but their base loves the 5.7. Just update the transmission and add the trans cooler back!
@@t4thfavor1212 yeah the new f150 hybrid has 24 combined. Yours probably gets like 18-24? The tundra gets like 15. Thats like $3000 per year difference for most people.
Correct me if I am wrong but the end part where one wheel was off the ground a tad and started spinning, to my understanding the Tundra did exactly what it was designed to do. When one wheel is spinning you are meant to increase rpm to cause more spin which triggers the diversion of power to the other wheels. And it is exactly what the guy did (maybe inadvertently?), he increased rpm, then power went to the other wheels and he was able to get out of it.
Awesome video! My videos suck when compared to yours - LOL. I have the same truck and love it - it will be collectors item soon when the 2022’s come out.
The back window is amazing. It gives awesome airflow with all the windows down. Way more airflow than just the door windows or a sunroof. Before hating on it, you should’ve tried it out then you would know that. It’s not hard to put it down and test it out for yourself before saying I never put it down I don’t really care for it. Honestly there is no negative to it, other companies have just the middle small part slide open to the side, this one the whole window goes down. If you don’t use it you don’t use it. If you do then it’s way more airflow than just the tiny middle window sliding to the side. Also great for pets, throw my dogs in the back of my 4runner with the back window down and they absolutely love it.
Love my ‘12 SR5 TRD Off-road. If you need more towing I think the suspension set up on the TRD Off-road trim is a bit stiffer and does really well. I towed my wife’s SUV from Texas to Kansas with the Cruz on 70 mph and it did great. Other than the MPG. 😜

That rolling rear window is awesome. Totally unique and more practical than the tiny sliding windows.
i believe that window is patented by toyota, thats why other companies dont have that option.

the BALLS of the dealerships that lend him these trucks
I wonder if its a tax write-off for marketing. Alternatively, these things are beastly offroad so any dealer that knows tundras wouldnt be too worried
Lol they just clean it off and sell it new. Dealerships don't care about honesty
Then it’s sold as a demo
They're manufacturer demo vehicles that the manufacturers themselves loan out for press reviews... This isn't from the local dealer...

Cavalry Blue for sure! Even my wife says how she likes that color when we see a Toyota in it.
I love the rear window but I also love a sunroof and window down driving.
Inferno orange is pretty sweet. I never cared for orange much, but my Colorado is orange sunburst metallic and I gradually fell in love with it.
The turbo V6 will definitely not sound as good as this.
Rear window is awesome. Helps ventilate the truck really fast in summer. Also great for bringing in fresh air without using side windows.
Me and my wife we have a 2021 TRD sport limited edition and we love it
Steven and Howard, I will go for the Voodoo Blue for sure!
Great video!!!!! Love to see a tire comparison of leading AT/MT/Hybrid tires on the mud and snow
Stephen Elmer. You are the freakin man!!
Love your enthusiasm for the trucks and off-roading man. Subscribed right away.
Welcome!
First time watching, and I must say.. very complex indepth review of a Truck! Really well done, good Job!
Glad you liked it!
good video Steven I will take the Toyota build quality and reliability over a few mpgs and a 8,9,10 speed auto, the competition spends more time back at the dealership than Toyota and Toyota has proven it can do the off road part the same as the big 3 and the components are far more rugged and you test them better than most out there in the youtube world you can shit kick the Tundra 6 speed auto and still work you proved that with the 4 Runner winter video, dude that just rocked, no body has come close to that, my buddy has a 2018 Tundra TRD and has put 30,000km on it in the last 2 winters and we are in Manitoba so get what you do and lots more temperature extremes and lots of ice fishing and snowmobiling and it hasn't let us down yet and he does not baby his truck , he definitely keeps up the maintenance on it and it sounds great when you put your foot into it. 👍
@bob church
Ha the perceived reliability mantra again🤣

Great review! I thought you’d have millions of subscribers, great commentary and production man! Subscribed
Wow, thanks!
"Youre costing me." Well, when you consider how often other trucks break down, youre really not coming out any better with a different truck lol
I love my rear window, it gets a "wow" from everyone
It's not a trd-pro exclusive color, but my favorite color is blazing blue pearl.
Great video. Going to check your page for the new gen tundra test!
Rear Sliding Window is awesome. I use it all of the time for lumber and enjoy it with the other windows open.
That's an impressive list of classics - just a little green here.
@@TruckKing Thanks, they are all retired now that the Tundra is taking up the work loads, but still get to cruise. Keep up the good work!
Yeah payload is low as I assume she is made to be soft for gravel roads. The normal double cab model as 1320 or 1290 with the 8’ box. More likely that version would be the working mans truck. Also the window in back is useful for dog owners or people vacationing with the family on nice days.
To get more power with towing use the tow haul button. Other trims can tow more
Love the rear window able to open it remotely way better than those tiny square ones, one a nice day open it a little open ur driver window n you’ll get a nice n cool breeze
The Tundra came with the 100L fuel tank and the integrated brake controller in 2016.
that is correct - we miss-spoke.
I love the giggles when steven was coming out of the mud pit 🤪🇨🇦🦌
Sounds like you got different problem because I’m 6”4 and I fit in my tundra perfectly fine and I have a sunroof
@@bubaa1218 LIkely longer torso
Not a Toyota guy, but thier paint colours are awesome, this green is boss , and the first blue one you showed . Keep up the great work.
What is the app you’re using for the 0-60 times? Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Great truck, best reliability, doesn't rattle can't enough about it
This truck may not be fuel efficient but it's the leader in class for "smiles per miles"
@ 3:52, are the leafs rubbing on the exhaust pipe?
I own the same truck and LOVE that back window.
Awesome review!
Glad you enjoyed it
I searched for months for a new all purpose truck and it came down to the the TRD pro and the Pro4x.
Damn those are two very cool trucks for sure. Enjoy. You especially dont see to many of those W200's anymore.
The one thing you don't mention is the trade off for fuel milage is the Tundra is the MOST of ALL makes, Reliable, Dependable and Highest Resale. I'll sacrifice the extra dollars at the pump. Proud 2017 SR5 Magnetic Grey owner!
Voodoo blue is the best TRD color option
quick sand is the best option...because I don't want to wash my truck XD
Bill Seiler cement grey 👍
Voodoo blue is a beauty
Toyota doing away with the 5.7 is going to be a terrible move. I understand their planned twin turbo v6, but their base loves the 5.7. Just update the transmission and add the trans cooler back!
I love the rear window!
Did they get a locker yet
If fuel mileage is a concern ya shouldn’t be looking at a truck.
or get a diesel perhaps? 1000+ ft/tq lets goo!!!
Been driving a truck for forty years work and recreation and mileage is always a concern.
But why? I can get f150 with 24mpg
@@cbskwkdnslwhanznamdm2849 As a ranger owner... no you can't.
@@t4thfavor1212 yeah the new f150 hybrid has 24 combined. Yours probably gets like 18-24? The tundra gets like 15. Thats like $3000 per year difference for most people.
Awesome video. I love the rear sliding window. What app did you use for the 0-100 mph?
the app is drag racer
What's your opinion on adding sumosprings to the rear to help with squat and towing the heavier loads?
I own a 4Runner and the rear window rolling down is awesome...
Yeah, that is how limited slip works. Some just hook up quicker than others.
The Calico Critters ads make me want to burn down the red roof cozy cottage!
Cant find this god damn truck anywhere man... I LOVE that my back window slids down. I put it down often. It's so cool
Great review man 👍
