The interpretation of the photo is outstanding. Keeping the pot and iron step light in value is genius. Beautiful painting again! Thank you very very much
I like the way you paint. You don't slop paint on the paper and call it "loose". I also like the explanations you give. Another great lesson. Thankee kindly.
Magnificent! I love your interpretation of the clay pot and rusty thing (plant stand, maybe) - your shadows speak volumes. That shade of green in the background is perfect with the colors of the beautiful flowers.
I really like this new format, showing both reference photo and your palette. It is possible for me to use two fingers to “stretch” the video to get a closer look at the painting, although it does go back to regular view if I remove my fingers from the screen. Your comments are so instructive. Helps to watch you putting in the darks to define the negative spaces. Thanks so much. .
I cant wait to paint this lovely painting. Rick could you show what your garter board looks like. I fell it will improve my art work if is see the same one you use Thank you very much.
Another opportunity to watch your amazing negative painting, thank you Rick. . From my observations, the hard edges you paint to define the negative leaves is not random, as I used to think. You have an idea where you want to suggest a leaf or stem, as you said without referring to the photo. I realize that my attempts have not been carefully thought out , hence the result is not believable but just random shapes. I think I’ll watch the central part again.
Hi Joyce, I have not been posting reference material on the website. I was encountering some issues with it. If you email me, I will return the reference photo in an email.
A beautiful painting. Thanks Rick.
Thanks Becky!

Thank you! Great comment! Painting loose is not a reason to abandon composition and design.

Thanks for sharing your comments Barbara! It's often based on where I want my center of interest.
Rick, is the reference photo available? I looked on your website...

What if we paint flowers first...then paint surrounding areas as green first wash?...then darken the leaves again
You could definitely take that approach.
