I never tire of watching you paint Rick. I would prefer to binge on your videos than any and all tv shows!! Thank you for your teaching and sharing. j.
Another fantastic instructional video proving how important it is to understand values and the effect that light or shadows have upon a subject. You begin with a great sketch, transform it with some rather neutral washes and use brush marks, remembering to avoid tangents. It's a beautiful painting too!
Thank you for all the tips in this tutorial. I watched it a few times and learnt from it. I usually pick a subject to either watch or do that will be pertinent to what I have as my own reference photo. I often do yours as well. I finally am getting to understand the amount water and pigment to place on my sheet. I usually keep a spare bit of paper where I can practice first before applying paint to my painting. I so appreciate what I feel I have learnt, and now I am at a point that I can say, yay, I think I am getting to know the colours and how they apply with this much water and blend with this much of that other pigment. All thanks to you. I am most grateful. cheers.
Thank you, this has so much harmony of colours even if it's not strictly a limited palette. The result is very warm and pleasing. I love your impressionistic style while respecting straight lines in buildings - it works perfectly. Seeing your reference photo is very useful and important for people like me who find it SO hard to simplify a reference and know what to change; your courses helped a lot in that area. I always pause the video and spend some time examining just how you interpreted the reference photo.
I appreciate your tutorials, mixing colors and cleaning up blips- the rice tape and the magic eraser is an amazing technique. I have been uable to find the rice tape could you recommend a source for this? Also in another painting you used clear packaging tape - I've experimented a little and haven't been able to get the packaging tape up without at least in a few areas puling up the surface of the paper. I've tried using canson's 140 pound cold press as well as Arches 300 pound cold press - could you give me some insights? Thanks so much, Your instruction is always so beneficial.
I've added the rice tape to the masking supplies listed on my studio page. Here is the link: rsurowiczart.com/studio/ click on masking supplies, you will see the rice tape at the bottom. Click on the image and you will see where I get it, As far as the clear tape. It does lift a bit of the nap of the paper, but not enough to cause me any issues. I only use it on unpainted areas for that reason. I use "Duck" brand, but I've used others. I work only on 140lb CP Lanaquarell and I don't have much of an issue.
Could you give me some more information about the "MAGIC ERASER" you used on the fascia? Maybe a link to where one can be purchased? (I looked on you "materials" link and did not find any info - although I may have overlooked it?) Thank you Rick - great work!
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your talent and teaching!
Beautiful. Loved the emphasis on value and light. Made a lot of sense after viewing your Module on the importance of Value. A fantastic tutorial.
Thanks Lydia!

You can purchase it anywhere that sells cleaning products, including the grocery store. Great product for many things.
