    Hi Rick! Your pumpkins watercolor is glorious!! Neat idea for masking off the light areas of the stem. Beautiful transparent layering, and wonderful tip about following the stem with your brushstroke. Wonderful dark, mysterious areas between your pumpkins really set off the fruit. I love how you explain your process so clearly. So pretty!

    PS Also; thank you for doing intermediate longer wc tutorials. I know how much time goes into painting and editing tutorials. Most artist are willing to do longer beginner tutorials. But at some point you do kindof control that. And since I have no wc classes in my neighbourhood for intermediates I very much apreciate you taking time to answer questions and do longer tutorials. I might be intermediate. But I like to finetune basics. And it is always nice when you can ask an artist and they actually will take the time to answer this. PS2. Since we enter the holiday season can you do a series of winter cheer paintings that will work for cards as well as bigger size paintings?

    The instructions are to do the initial wash wet on dry and then after that wet on wet. In the video the added water after the initial wash is by spray bottle. Are you using any other water on the paper that is not shown in the video? It doesn't look like but I don't want to use too much.

    Rick, I can't get the effect you do with the water bottle. I bought the one you recommend. The spray is fine except it also sprays some large blobs of water. Any recommendations how to fix this or work around it?

    • @RickSurowiczWatercolor
      @RickSurowiczWatercolor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I use the spray bottle, I often start close to the paper. I lift and pull away at the same time. Also, normally, I don't depress the spray button all the way down, just part way.

  • @joyfulldj
    @joyfulldj 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You think I can reach the same mixture using ds pv19 ultramarine and burnt umber? ( I can always add in quin gold when needed for the glow ) I don't think I will have the patience for your tape method... Guess I will be using my sennelier masking fluid with the small dispenser needle like thingy for it.

      You should be able to get close to the warm dark tones.

    • @joyfulldj
      @joyfulldj 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RickSurowiczWatercolor is there a sub to reach the cool tones? I have a small set of ds colors; I could opt for a mix with pyrrol red with hansa yellow light instead of quin gold I guess for a cool tone variation. I rarely use cool color mixes. I like the warmer tones. I have some cooler tones but they seem to be unemployed on my palette lol

    • @RickSurowiczWatercolor
      @RickSurowiczWatercolor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tony, It's clear packing tape. I use it on 140lb cold press Lanaquarrelle watercolor paper. I'm using "Duck" brand, but I've used others. I recommend trying your particular roll of tape and paper to see if they are compatible.
