as always, thank you, for your way of teaching (not all tech) and your calmness. have been following you from your start on utube. lol, i'm ready to try painting !! i think i may do some Christmas cards you have !
Thank you for sharing. I am new to your chanel and I am very grateful that I have found your tutoriels. Love your style , so graceful and impressionnist.
You are very generous, Rick. After visiting your website and watching a few of your videos, there will be no room left for questions, only compliments. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent. You have helped me loosen up my style of painting. I especially love the depth you achieve in all your work. Please keep on with TH-cam!
I like the depth you go in your painting studies. I don't know much of design principles and composition and especially tangents. You certainly create the curiosity. Thank you Rick !
I am a bit dyslexic/dyspraxic and find the idea of 'negative space' baffling. Your wonderful tutorials have helped me to understand the concept and hopefully produce a reasonable piece of work. Thank you so much for all you do, Rick Surowicz!
Awesome. So inspiring. Learned quite a bit. Gives me much more control and joy. One thing I realize is I was picking scenes that were much too complicated. We have to learn in gradients. So your tutoring does that very well. Been doing watercolor for many years and never learned so much.
Very lovely, Rick. Love the Sap Green and Rose Madder Quin together. I appreciate the beginning of your video where you explain the two colors your using and the various intensities.
This video is amazingly helpful! I have always struggled with painting peonies and usually drive myself crazy with details. Applying paint and then misting gives me the look I've been searching for and it's fun. Thank you, Rick!!
Very fresh beautiful approach to watercolor. For myself it was so needed because I have to change my style of painting so often depending on what I would like the picture to convey. Love your compositions and movement I guess that is what personally attracts me to your paintings and is something that I have been working on. Keep on doing what you are doing. Love the movement! Ignore those thumbs down please. When one paints detail so much which many great artists do it is awesome to see maybe what many just might be a little in need of learning more. Great paintings and tutorials.
I really enjoyed watching your process- thanks so much for sharing your experience w us. I am looking for an approach to watercolor, keep changing my process, still looking still painting!
I’ve just recently found you, but I’ve been binging your videos, and I want to say THANK YOU! Your tutorials have totally changed my watercolor game. I’m still a beginner, and certainly need work on those deep, dark values (practice = confidence) but I just finished my best painting yet, thanks to what I have learned from you 😁
Thank you for sharing your process. You have really developed a beautiful style of painting with a unique process developed over time. I am at the stage of happy accidents vs planned successes. Haven't found "my style" yet but love trying out other artists' processes along the way. Your negative painting is beautiful and you are a master at it.
Thanks Kathryn !!! Love your comments! I don't think we ever get away from happy accidents. Your thought process is on point and it's a matter of time before you find your style, although, I think that's always evolving. Over time I've had what I call milestone paintings/moments when something just clicks and I get it. From there I carry it forward and start looking for my next milestone moment. Sometimes they're little things and sometimes breakthrough moments, but together they influence my style and who I am as an artist.
loving the sap green & rose madder quin usu use sap & aliz crimson but always looking for another red to tame the sap! beautiful work as usual and excellent demo. like you showing us your take on the negative space painting - starting to incorporate into my own work and especially like your brush choice comments.
Thanks for all the great comments !!! Most often I use Pyrrole red with Sap Green, however, I liked the Rose Madder Q in this painting where I was only using the two colors.
Was wondering what brand of Rose Madder Quin you prefer and in general what brand of watercolors you mostly like to work with. I have favorites from several makers but not on the Rose Madder Quin.
Hi Sally, If you follow this link to the studio page of my website, I have a table of the colors currently on my palette. I list the color, manufacturer, and frequency of use. I actually use a few different brands, and think most artist grade paints are pretty good. Here is the link: rsurowiczart.com/studio/ My Rose Madder is Davinci.
Thanks Liz ! Yes it's a Black Gold Quill Series 311, size 3/0 (triple zero) I have the details of this and all my materials on the "Studio" page of my website along with links. While inexpensive, it's a hard brush to find in size 3/0. I've found one online resource in the US and a couple in Canada. I have the link on my studio page. This link will take you to my studio page: rsurowiczart.com/studio/ It's listed with all my brushes.
Rick Surowicz Watercolor thanks, I did use your page and link, very helpful, just didn’t know which one to pick. I’m really enjoying your videos, not to many people are going into such detail on negative painting. Looking forward to watching the rest.
Loved watching your process and learned more than I expected. Question: would you consider providing outlines in the future and/or references for your demo paintings? Thank you for all the work and time you put in to making these videos for us.
I watch your tutorials more than once to be sure I am remembering the techniques. And not twice in the same day, or even month!

Thanks Rick for the great tutorials. I missed the size on the dynasty black gold brush. Is it a quill? Thanks

Rick Surowicz Watercolor thanks, I did use your page and link, very helpful, just didn’t know which one to pick. I’m really enjoying your videos, not to many people are going into such detail on negative painting. Looking forward to watching the rest.
Rick Surowicz Watercolor I see now you put which one, also out of stock. Thanks.
That's unfortunate. I might email them to see when they will have more. I think a number of people have been purchasing them .
Rick Surowicz Watercolor let me know what they say if you email them, thanks.
תודה על ההדגמה המועילה שלב אחר שלב
Loved watching your process and learned more than I expected. Question: would you consider providing outlines in the future and/or references for your demo paintings? Thank you for all the work and time you put in to making these videos for us.
Thanks Erin ! I've been experimenting with format and content. It's something for me to consider. I appreciate you sharing your ideas !
If you don’t tell us colors, what can a new beginner learn,of course you don’t have responsible. However thank you very much
