You’ll probably find a lot of Pentium 1 and 2 laptops that were barley used a year before being replaced. Intel had competition back then, and were actually making their successive generations appreciably faster, so if you had last year’s model, there were things you could just literally not do. In today’s landscape, you have to have a CPU from like ten years ago or more before you encounter things that won’t work at all.
@@voltare2amstereo I still have an acer travelmate 3270 that uses the first intel core 2 duo (t5500). it is still running windows 10. however i moved to the dell e7250 with i5-5300u and install windows 11 latest build on this laptop

I remember in college, late 90’s, everyone would get a compaq. Insane prices. Around $2000. And they seemed to be near the cheaper ones but checked all the boxes for what one wanted
I had that laptop with the expansion/CD-ROM unit below. It was an outstanding laptop for the time, I wish today's laptops would have that flippable battery handle which made typing on the keyboard so much easier. This brings back a lot of memories :)
I had a Windows 95 PC as my first pc and I didn't have speakers for it. And it's really a shame because the Win 95 start up sound is SO nice 😍 Nice video! 😇
Speaking of Ikea, when my mall opened in 1985, it brought the first Ikea to Virginia. It was one of the first Ikea's in the USA. Ikea is no longer in the mall, but now its own building across the street from the mall.
My Windows 95 laptop is a Panasonic Toughbook CF-45 I got for 19€ one week ago. The only issue was a loose display cable, but that didn’t take long to fix. The battery is original and still working, keeps a charge for about two hours!
A windows 95 toshiba just sold for $500 on ebay a few weeks ago. it was brand new on the box, within the last 10 seconds of the bid it went from $275 to $510
I’ve worked from home for 6 years. Got an autonomous desk this past December. Would recommend to anyone who needs a desk. The quality feels like way more than the cost.
I used to have a very similar model of laptop, the Armada 4160T that my uncle gave to me when I was six! No idea what the 'T' stood for. This thing helped spawn my love of computing, thank you for bringing back the memories!
In college I used an Armada 4131T. Pretty much the same specs but it had a full active matrix LCD and a 133MHz CPU. IIRC using Function + T would enable display stretch. Thanks for the vid, brought back some memories.
I was so relieved at the 9:21 mark. A healthy dose of eucalyptus oil is so satisfying. Such a great video. Thanks for putting it up. I had a couple of a Toshiba laptops with Windows 95 but had forgotten that jingle on startup. 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice video review - you don't often see laptops like that, especially in good condition with accessories, like that one! And yes, I do sorta remember Windows 95... we had that on our really old tower PC (which we no longer have). Though due to program incompatibility, we ended up upgrading Windows 95 to Windows ME... and after that, we got our first laptop, which had Windows XP.
i used to go to Le Cornu on anzac highway when i was very little, i wished i could've afforded "super cool" desks and nightstands. i shed a tear when they closed

The hobby definitely needs to grow. If you watch this video join us and start collecting laptops. It's a fun rewarding hobby that won't destroy your wallet.
@@psivewri You're usually testing the gaming capabilities of those vintage laptops, but if you buy an older desktop PC in the future for any reason (P3-P4 category), you can compare older VGA-s for example, to figure out what OS is optimal for those and which games can it handle :) . I don't expect a Geforce 2 can run Crysis of course, but it would be interesting to see the difference between older cards, like a Geforce 2 MX and a Geforce FX5600 for example, with the original Counter-Strike, Far Cry, Quake, Colin McRae rally and other great titles :) . I still remember that big graphics jump between my Geforce 4 MX and FX 5200 in Far Cry, because of the newer Direct X support.
I have a 4160T, got it from a thrift shop for 20 bucks :) Runs pretty well, trackpad is bad but I'm aiming to get it on the internet and play some Quake 3 Deathmatch with my friend. The laptop was originally given to a CBC radio employee, which is one of the main radio stations here in Canada.
Great video - I own an Armada 7800 from a similar timeframe and the plastics are starting to weaken too in places. By the way, you should be able to stretch the screen using Fn+T - it's not marked on the keyboard but is documented in some manuals.
I still have 2 of those, one working, the 160 (P1 166MHz) version (there is also 120 version with P1 133MHz) You could have a battery instead of floppy drive, the long battery behind and another battery on the base. Had over 20 of those back in the days ...
This is the reason I stopped collecting these old laptops. I had a few pristine models of a similar age, and they just started falling apart. The plastic became so brittle.
The Compaq Armada is good, but, my heart will always favor Windows 95 on an IBM Thinkpad. This is because the Compaq Armada always gave me one step more of a hassle. I had to install the screensavers from the original floppy disks, since they were nowhere to be found on the Compaq Armada. On the IBM Thinkpad though, they were always already on there. No hassle.
9:00 using sodium bicarbonate with the superglue makes the bond stronger for plastic repair. Maybe you can use charcoal for making the same color instead but I haven't tried outside sodium bicarbonate.
What you said about Titanic, I have the 1929 version, the 1953 20th Century Fox Version, and the 1958 Night to Remember on DVD, But I did not see the The 1997 version but did see the his Ghost of the Abyss in which in making it that they film it days before 9-11, and also have a tee shirt that saids when I brought to work, " The Boat Sank, Get Over It!" as for Laptops that I still have my Toshiba Satellite from Windows 95 the switch to Windows 98 as they install a USB 1.0 and also the regular color of Gray Construction.
