    Back in the 90s an Australian company called Hypertec created desktop computers for about a year, then gave up! Today we're using and cleaning up this rare Hyperformance model that's running windows 95. #vintage #computer #windows95

    It was very common to have DMI / IRQ conflicts between network and sound cards back in the day. This is why when Windows 95 came out, "Plug and Play" devices were all the rage.
    Of course, those of us who really lived it know that as "Plug-and-Pray"...

    You find this in the trash while people like me pay €50 for that

    • @looking_33
      @looking_33 ปีที่แล้ว

      why would you pay for this - these are trash they have no purpose completely obsolete and useless in the modern world. all possible uses this could even have, a new computer could do the same exact thing, run the same software or the OS but why even do that when there is way faster and more feature filled software new. there’s literally no justification for these existing in the economy and taking them from recycling is disgustingly selfish and harmful to society.

    • @sedrosken831
      @sedrosken831 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      In what world are you paying only 50EUR for that? Out here there is no local vintage PC market so I'd have to pay hyperinflated prices on eBay -- I'd have to pay $100 with $80 shipping, minimum.

    • @LaurentiusTriarius
      @LaurentiusTriarius ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You'd be surprised just posting an ad how many people have vintage stuff to give away if you're willing to pick it up. I was picking up all old hardware but tbh the market is pretty limited I usually fix / clean components and sell them for a minimal profit but yet I can't sell much of that old stock even if like new...

    • @xGMV
      @xGMV ปีที่แล้ว +8

      "Recycling centres" don't exist where I'm from, the closest thing are junkyards with washing machines and stoves at best. IF you find a TV it's always broken beyond repair, and never have I seen a computer. I love this channel and other similar ones but in all honesty, watching these make me really sad I cannot follow the hobby. People here charge you absurd amounts even for DDR2 RAM if you can at all find it, too.

    I haven't seen a Hypertec in yearrrrrs. Back in 1997 my local library got one, same model as this actually that they hooked up to the Internet via good ol' 28.8 dialup, for one hour every week I used the Internet on this machine. As a 12 year old Mac geek I remember devouring every Mac related site I could find, and also remember talking to people in chat rooms. I miss when the Internet was new and exciting and fun

    This was our first Windows PC in 1999, was an ex office workstation. Had a Pentium 100, 16MB RAM and Win 95, later upgraded to 32MB RAM and Win 98 when it became my own PC in my bedroom circa 2002-2003, as we had again obtained another old ex workstation around 2001 as the family PC (this time an MMX, 64MB and 98SE)
    This brought back some good memories.
    The last ex workstation PC was an IBM with a Celeron, 512MB RAM and XP that we got in about 2005 when we finally stopped dealing with second hand underspecced computers, but they did the job. That served us well for about 3 years and then I think we pretty much went with laptops as I had just started working etc.

    Ah, brings back memories. The company I used to work for in the early 90s supplied Hypertec their bare circuit boards for their Hyperam, they used to be in North Ryde. I recall their voyage into building pc’s started with great promise but local manufacturing costs proved too much. They were brilliant quality computers however. Thanks for the video and the memories. 😊

    Good to see others saving old hardware. I have several old/vintage PC's, the oldest ones being XT/8088's. My oldest computer though is my Commodore 64, the first (of 3) bought in 1983. But my oldest machine is a Coleco Telstar Ranger game console bought in 1977. I do not really collect computers, I just keep what me & my family have bought over the years & I have become the de facto owner of them after they have become obsoleted, simply because I just hate throwing away machines that still have some use in them, so that includes vintage computers.

    All versions of Windows 95 liked to assign conflicting resources to sound cards, most often the parallel port. If you'd manually change one's resources it would change the other device to match. So then the only recourse was to manually assign both the sound card and whichever device Windows was insisting on improperly assigning resources to match it.
    Windows 98SE was when Microsoft finally got Plug N Play working correctly. I encountered many PCs that had problems with Windows 98 original that worked fine with 98SE.

    I've collected and built many old PC's over recent years I want to get more to fill up my cupboard with them. I mainly just enjoy building them but I only ever use them for about a week or so before building or getting another beige box to work on. I set two up in my living room and a 486 in the dinning room, the others are in the cupboard. I have about 20 so far.
    Its good to see you wasn't using that CF card as the main drive because a lot of people don't understand the damage it does using CF cards as hard drives and so many people are doing it. CF cards are best used as slave drives. I also like the fact its running Windows 95 because many would chuck Windows 98SE on it. 133MHz processor is better suited to Windows 95 and DOS. I like the horizontal beige boxes the best with manual on/off switch.
