Wow. That’s the exact same case, mobo, S3 graphics card, CD-ROM drive (top one), and processor I bought as a barebones kit from some vendor advertising in Computer Shopper way back in ‘98. It was my first PC build. Talk about a blast from the past!
I presume the type of the motherboard is PcChips M560 REV: 3.1A, according to the document: www.tqm.com.uy/archivos/pcchips/manuales/M560/M560V31.PDF The CPU external clock it supports is 66mhz, 75mhz and 83mhz, while the internal clock speed selector can only goes as high as 3.5X. Forget about 83mhz, which is too risky for PCI peripherals, if we select 75mhz*3.5=261mhz, roughly 26mhz, still can't go up to 300mhz........
@@fuentescgabriel Would a BIOS update solves the issue of detection? I guess these are the early SDRAM slots, and these mobo maybe picky. I would populate it with low RAM (64MB/128MB). A 128MB would be perfect for Win98SE.

@Jimmy S Ding Ding Ding! Right O! As a tech I dreaded working on client's PCs with that darn PCChips TXpro and VX pro boards! Their Cheaposity would sometimes cause ME to be blamed for their PC not working anymore lol! They called me cause it was not working RIGHT, then I would fix the issue and Windows optimal settings and correct hardware drivers, etc would prove to be too much for these boards sometimes. The CPU/RAM/FSB settings issue was one such FIX that caused a blow to the system, as alot of those PC CHIPS boards also suffered the dreaded Leaky bulging capocalipse. I am VERY surprised the system here did not perform an illegal operation after rebuilding it with the ram half in like that. AND Windows ME was very unstable product so even more surprised indeed!
I bought a monitor on ebay a couple of years back, when I unboxed it the stagnant smoke smell became aparant. I ended up stripping it down and scrubbing all the plastics in the sink, plus a ton of IPA to clean the screen up and any other sensitive parts. As an ex smoker I truly can't stand that smell. Nice restoration ! I found some useful informations for your PC : The motherboard is a PCChips M575. (Shady motherboard manufacturer, but as long it works, it should be allright). The "TXpro" chipset is actually and ALi M1531 (Aladdin IV+) so if you need drivers for it, look for that instead. You should be able to enable USB somehow, maybe you need some driver for that or you have to enable then in the BIOS. Also check for that number, you should find some website named "elhvb" where they let you download an archive containing the latest bios, some drivers and jumper settings for CPUs ! They even show you what settings to use with a K6-2 300, so you can run it at its maximum speed :) Also, you might want to consider to downgrade to Windows 98SE : Windows ME has many disadvantages over Windows 98. Windows ME's DOS is really really bad to run old games (almost as bad as windows xp's) while 98's is pretty much the best version of DOS. Also 98 can do pretty much all what ME can do (though you have to install everything it lacks yourself while it's packed in the install disc for ME). Last but not least, if you plan to play DOS games, I recommend you to install a different sound card that the one integrated on the mobo. Brands like Yamaha (ISA or PCI), Creative Labs (ISA only) or ESS (ISA or PCI) should do the trick very nicely :) Other than this, the bend on the board looks very bad, I'm surprised it's still working, hopefully you can fully get rid of it ...
Another thumbs up mate! Great video! I love these classic old computers! Great job restoring that computer. I Still have a classic Pentium 1 case. Asus P5A-B Motherboard and restored it. Still works great today. To play all the classic games.
Fortunately, this sound seemed to be shared with Windows 2000. There's also an alternative version of the ME/2000 startup sound, usually found in the beta versions of these two OSes. Good luck trying to get these beta versions installed, though. At least you can still get the sounds from the installation CDs by going through the files with 7-Zip.
It's loud? Strange...These old PCs were actually more silent than today's systems, good thing you pointed that out. It could've gone unnoticed. Good job taking it apart BTW!
As a fellow south Aussie with a youtube channel I say a big howdy fellow youtuber and I'm loving your videos definitely takes me back especially the load up music ahhh memories keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for this video! I love videos about older computers and gaming on older computers. To me it seems like the PC/Mac was at its peak in the 90s, so much was changing real fast and it just seems like a real cool time to be alive.
Also have the same experience, although with a PIII. Tons more stable than 98SE, aka "System is busy"-hell of BSOD's that would never work properly. Still using a Millennium K6-II for helping 98 rigs whenever they decide to fail.
I remember Windows ME all too well. Every computer I ever tried to use or set up with that OS was nothing but trouble, and as a result of my experiences, I conclude that the "ME" stands for Malfunctioning Edition
First of you make me feel old. I owned a Windows ME For a number of years and loved it. I wished I would had keeped it. Plus almost everyone smoked back then and I suppose mine would had smelled of smoke also.
@12:39 - floppy drive light stuck on - ribbon cable on backward to front! Also, the motherboard (logicboard wtf?!?) is what is warped, not the DIMMs, and one more thing, the K6-2 is running at 233MHz when it's actually a 300MHz part! I used to have one of those TXPro motherboards - cheap and cheerful! When they worked, they worked well.
I had a similar PC back in the day, although my CPU was the very first Atlhon CPU, and the graphics were rendered via a Vodoo 3 3000 video card - quite a great combo, I may say. The sound card was a Creative Soundblaster PCI 128, and I had tons of fun playing awesome games in the mid to late ´90s!
It would indeed. That motherboard was essentially a 'sleeper' type mod in its day. It was designed specifically as an upgrade path for those still putting along with AT-type Socket 7 rigs. By swapping this into your AT box, you could keep most of your Socket 7 hardware and get the upgrade path of Super-7 chips from AMD and Cyrix. Where Intel stopped with 233 Mhz Pentiums, Super 7 chips were running much faster! Notice when he's pulling the mobo out of the case - he mentions the two different types of RAM slots, but doesn't notice that the board has both AT and ATX power connectors. Yes, it could work with either type.
This "sleeper pc" thing is literally retarded. I've used the same PC case since 2006. Why buy another one??? I have no problems with cooling and it does it's job. It's had like 8 different mobos in it, high end GPUs for it's time, and now has no older than 2016 stuff inside. Idk why would you even spend money on a PC case.
Totally a walk down memory lane for me. I had a machine or a few machines with those AMD k62 in them. I bet that motherboard needs a firmware update to support more RAM. Great video thanks for sharing your fun.
The very same reason people restore record players or anything else. Sometimes money isn't everything and who knows 20 years from now like much older things it could be worth thousands to collectors. I dearly wished I would had kept mine.
Had a lot of fun making this video 🙂 Hope you enjoy 👌

OMG, This error message haunts me since my childhood. I remember to broke my new Windows ME PC on the first hours of use.
Watching you work on those old computers bring back a lot of memories.

I'm a massive fan of shrek. I agree, Who isn't a fan of shrek?
Lord farquadd?

I hate it sorry
Umnnn... idk how about anyone over the age of 10?
Wow. That’s the exact same case, mobo, S3 graphics card, CD-ROM drive (top one), and processor I bought as a barebones kit from some vendor advertising in Computer Shopper way back in ‘98. It was my first PC build. Talk about a blast from the past!
The CPU is a k6/2 300, not a 233. Check the mainboards jumper settings
I presume the type of the motherboard is PcChips M560 REV: 3.1A, according to the document:
www.tqm.com.uy/archivos/pcchips/manuales/M560/M560V31.PDF
The CPU external clock it supports is 66mhz, 75mhz and 83mhz, while the internal clock speed selector can only goes as high as 3.5X. Forget about 83mhz, which is too risky for PCI peripherals, if we select 75mhz*3.5=261mhz, roughly 26mhz, still can't go up to 300mhz........
@@ching-chenhuang8119 It`s a PCChips M575.
@@fuentescgabriel Would a BIOS update solves the issue of detection? I guess these are the early SDRAM slots, and these mobo maybe picky. I would populate it with low RAM (64MB/128MB). A 128MB would be perfect for Win98SE.
Someone else caught that too eh!? Yeah, AMD K6 starting line was 266Mhz, which surpassed INTEL's 233MMX CPU rating. But yes, this one was a 300. I knew I was not going cray cray yet lol!
I feel bad for all the things I probably made smell like that back when I was a smoker.
"This logon chime is rather unfamiliar to me..." - Umm... ever seen Windows 2000 (Professional, Server) then?
That chime is nostalgia for me, my first PC ran Windows ME. Terrible computer, but it was amazing for me at the time.
Windows 2000 for me.
This was a great restoration video! Also a pretty nice machine with lots of PCI cards :)
You got a good retrogaming PC here. You should install Windows 98 SE though, to get this MSDOS glory and better drivers for the voodoo
I am addicted to your videos. I love watching computers being taken apart and put together again.
Windows ME was a wonderful version of Windows. The problem was that it wasn't being run on the correct hardware.
windows 2000 was the better version anyway, idk why microsoft released 2 very similar versions of windows so close to each other
@@AtomicBoo How come windows me and 2000 were simillar? Me was based on 9x when 2000 was based on NT lineup and dedicated for proffesionals. Before XP only Windows 98 meant something for gamers,me was a big big unstable mistake. Then XP was the first NT windows friendly for all users
@@miki476 The problem people had with ME was the drivers and the removal of real mode MS-DOS (although you could get MS-DOS mode back unofficially). XP did fix most people's issues with ME.
@@AtomicBoo My dad owned a computer repair shop and i remember ME & 2000 being a distinctly average OS. It was forgotten or skipped over very quickly.
The same was with Windows Vista. Most of the users used it on PCs, that not capable of running it properly. Thats why ppl are hating the Vista. I used it till Windows 7 and didnt had any problems.
aside from the painting and rust fixing...that was my life every few months. taking apart my pc with all those wide ass cables and terrible wire management and dusting it all out with brushes, etc. That jingle is very recognizable to me...old skool stuff!! nice vid :)
Nice restoration !
I found some useful informations for your PC :
The motherboard is a PCChips M575.
They even show you what settings to use with a K6-2 300, so you can run it at its maximum speed :)
Also, you might want to consider to downgrade to Windows 98SE : Windows ME has many disadvantages over Windows 98.
Brands like Yamaha (ISA or PCI), Creative Labs (ISA only) or ESS (ISA or PCI) should do the trick very nicely :)
Other than this, the bend on the board looks very bad, I'm surprised it's still working, hopefully you can fully get rid of it ...
Do you have drivers for vx pro ii im just asking
Another thumbs up mate! Great video! I love these classic old computers! Great job restoring that computer. I Still have a classic Pentium 1 case. Asus P5A-B Motherboard and restored it. Still works great today. To play all the classic games.
Ohhhh what a time it was, coming from the school, and play hours of games...
Lovely addiction eh m8?
@@Gamerbay2017 yeahhhhh
That system looks very nice for running Windows ME. Standards look pretty beefy for this timeframe. With appropriate hardware, looks great for gaming.
Such a beautiful startup sound ME has
Fortunately, this sound seemed to be shared with Windows 2000.
Please tell me what did you study for refurbishing the Computers
I was fascinated by computers when I was growing up though they were scarce. I am now hooked to your videos @psivewry!

...BODY ONCE TOLD ME THE WORLD IS GONNA ROLL (Windows) ME
As a fellow south Aussie with a youtube channel I say a big howdy fellow youtuber and I'm loving your videos definitely takes me back especially the load up music ahhh memories keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for this video! I love videos about older computers and gaming on older computers. To me it seems like the PC/Mac was at its peak in the 90s, so much was changing real fast and it just seems like a real cool time to be alive.
I used an amd k6 500 with Windows ME back in the day most stable system ever. Never had a single issue.
Also have the same experience, although with a PIII. Tons more stable than 98SE, aka "System is busy"-hell of BSOD's that would never work properly. Still using a Millennium K6-II for helping 98 rigs whenever they decide to fail.
*Psivewri, The Savior Of Elder PCs*
I remember Windows ME all too well. Every computer I ever tried to use or set up with that OS was nothing but trouble, and as a result of my experiences, I conclude that the "ME" stands for Malfunctioning Edition
I think I saw ME on the BSOD more than actually being used.
Windows Me was my first pc OS... it was quite good for my high school things and I could even play some games and PSX emulators
Nostalgic Look! I still remember the new millennium!
I still remember the mistake millennium!
First of you make me feel old. I owned a Windows ME For a number of years and loved it. I wished I would had keeped it. Plus almost everyone smoked back then and I suppose mine would had smelled of smoke also.
0:05 I had the same computer when I was little
Me too my dad was pretty savvy with CPUs back in the day and we had the same tower for sure but he probably had different drives at times
Congratulations for your channel. I already subscribed. Greetings from Argentina.
I remember that Graphics card and my favorite was sound blaster sound card also you should of tried old Half life and dropped in the old couter strike
The "in current year" genre of videos is my favorite.
That would be a great windows 98se/DOS machine.
I think it originally came with windows 95 or 3.1
@@Skiedeagle proper
My favourite windows version of all. I still keeping the installation cd of Windows Me as well as Windows 95 floopy disk.
More videos about this machines, Yes???
@12:39 - floppy drive light stuck on - ribbon cable on backward to front! Also, the motherboard (logicboard wtf?!?) is what is warped, not the DIMMs, and one more thing, the K6-2 is running at 233MHz when it's actually a 300MHz part! I used to have one of those TXPro motherboards - cheap and cheerful! When they worked, they worked well.
1:07 theres something we all have in common mate. #Shrekgang
Ok, hear me out. That case would make a rather nice sleeper pc!
No
This "sleeper pc" thing is literally retarded.
The s3 Virge dx is a very early 3D card
The turbo button is only for applications dating back to the late 80s to 90s for backward compatibility. That's all lol
You can always tell a Mac techie by the way they call motherboards "logic boards" in non-mac systems too
I have a Windows Me computer that was from 2001 and is pretty powerful with a 1ghz cpu
let's call it with its proper name: windows meh
windows meth
Holy crap you really polished that old machine. Nicely done!
quite a machine back in day and "logic board" who calls it that ? like ever ..lol
Damn bro you brought me back to my childhood in a matter of seconds 😂
WHY Would you do this it Doesn't have any value
Because it’s possible.
I do it because of the parallel port (LPT) it has 8 digital outputs and 7 inputs. I control some of my equipment with Visual Basic for DOS.
The very same reason people restore record players or anything else. Sometimes money isn't everything and who knows 20 years from now like much older things it could be worth thousands to collectors. I dearly wished I would had kept mine.
Good stuff. I still have my first computer from 1995 when I was 10.
