0:10 What a back panel! This is way, way older than a standard era-appropriate WinMe machine would be! Very much early Win95 or even 3.1 kind of machine... Numberless upgrades (RAM maxed to what the motherboard can take, cd burner, and so on) kind of mask that, but serial and parallel ports on dedicated plates, XT style keyboard port... really primitive.

Becuase people have been asking: the reason why Apple calls them "logic boards" is because the original Macintosh models had a CRT monitor built-in and thus it required 2 main boards to work: the "analoge board" which contained the systems' mainly high-voltage analogue electronics required to drive the CRT and the power supply. The "logic board" contained all of the digital circuitry (CPU, RAM, etc). The last Mac to feature an analogue board was the eMac as it was the last Mac to ever feature a CRT monitor built-in. Apple still calls them "logic boards" because that's what they have always called them. Hope this explanation helps :)

    Nice restoration !
I found some useful informations for your PC :
The motherboard is a PCChips M575. (Shady motherboard manufacturer, but as long it works, it should be allright). The "TXpro" chipset is actually and ALi M1531 (Aladdin IV+) so if you need drivers for it, look for that instead. You should be able to enable USB somehow, maybe you need some driver for that or you have to enable then in the BIOS.
Also check for that number, you should find some website named "elhvb" where they let you download an archive containing the latest bios, some drivers and jumper settings for CPUs ! They even show you what settings to use with a K6-2 300, so you can run it at its maximum speed :)
Also, you might want to consider to downgrade to Windows 98SE : Windows ME has many disadvantages over Windows 98. Windows ME's DOS is really really bad to run old games (almost as bad as windows xp's) while 98's is pretty much the best version of DOS. Also 98 can do pretty much all what ME can do (though you have to install everything it lacks yourself while it's packed in the install disc for ME).
Last but not least, if you plan to play DOS games, I recommend you to install a different sound card that the one integrated on the mobo. Brands like Yamaha (ISA or PCI), Creative Labs (ISA only) or ESS (ISA or PCI) should do the trick very nicely :)
Other than this, the bend on the board looks very bad, I'm surprised it's still working, hopefully you can fully get rid of it ...

About the power supply, yes you can put a mechanical power switch on an ATX one, there is one green wire that goes to the motherboard, stripe it plus one black ground cable, then solder them to the switch.
You may also make an adapter for the motherboard with a little soldering, for that, please refer to the wire colors, it's normalized!

It would indeed. That motherboard was essentially a 'sleeper' type mod in its day. It was designed specifically as an upgrade path for those still putting along with AT-type Socket 7 rigs. By swapping this into your AT box, you could keep most of your Socket 7 hardware and get the upgrade path of Super-7 chips from AMD and Cyrix. Where Intel stopped with 233 Mhz Pentiums, Super 7 chips were running much faster! Notice when he's pulling the mobo out of the case - he mentions the two different types of RAM slots, but doesn't notice that the board has both AT and ATX power connectors. Yes, it could work with either type.

For anybody watching, you can fix a warped PCB if you are very careful. With a cheap toaster oven you don't want to use as food, preheat it to 200 F. Clamp the PCB onto a flat piece of wood, and let it sit in there for potentially a few hours. 200 F won't remelt the solder, and the time and heat should help straighten parts out.

Cool video and it cleaned up really nicely! Also, ME was a bit of a heap of junk but it seemed to run quite well on this system. I'd be tempted to have it run '98 or 2000 though.
There is one thing I noticed about your voice over. Your terminology (Logic Board, Ram DIMMs, Physical power switch, drive cover plate, com port) is completely different and sometimes even false (DIMM is actually the memory stick, not the slot). It makes me wonder where you got your computer knowledge. This remark is definitely not meant in a negative way, I highly enjoyed the video but because there were so many instances of this happening I just started wondering; how come you seem to have your own terminology? :D.
Thanks for saving that computer! More people should go about doing this, really. And not just with computers.

A couple things. 1: Your K6-2 CPU is actually a 300MHZ chip, not a 233. 2nd: even if all your RAM fit in there properly it wouldn't read more than it has.
Both of those issues are a limitation of the motherboard. It is a Socket 7 system, which is limiting your performance quite a bit. What you should look for is a Super Socket 7 motherboard. It is a revision to the original Socket 7 that enables more RAM to be used as well as faster CPUs (and will allow your CPU there to clock to its full speed). Basically, when Intel abandoned Socket 7, manufacturers like AMD, Cyrix, and VIA wanted to continue to keep making chips based on Socket 7, but as performance started to lag they updated the spec to be more Super. Eventually AMD maxed out what was capable on the socket with the K6-3 550 MHz. From there AMD moved onto Slot A, and then Socket A with the original Athlons.

Thanks for the video! A few quick thoughts: You should Google "How to discharge power supply capacitors." (I would just tell you but I'm not a licensed electrician.) After I found out how easy it was to do what electricians do, I wasn't nervous working with power supplies anymore. Rubber bands will break down over time and stop doing their jobs. They will then crumble apart and/or become sticky. Zip ties are a better idea. Finally, I'm not sure the paint pen is enough to stop further rising. Most people who do refurbishment remove the rust. I believe Adrian Black covers this well. HTH!

Good job. One thing that can be said for the old hardware, they did build it pretty well to last. That being said, I recently got a reconditioned HP Z620 with dual Xeon processors and a mere (ha) 96 GB of RAM. It's a bit of a beast and a long way from my first computer, a Sinclair ZX-80 with a Z-80 8 bit CPU and a whopping 1 K of RAM. How things have changed. Ironically, the cost has come down quite a bit. The Sinclair was the first under $200 - at $199.95. The HP? $560.

How were you able to play games on DOS? I recall Windows ME took away much of the support for real-time MS-DOS functionality, which makes it less appealing for retro PC users to get since they use Windows 95/98 computers to play games both in DOS and Windows games of the late 90s to early 2000s.
