- Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, presents the features of the famous Winchester model 1886 lever action rifle in this GunTec Presentation. This large framed lever action was produced from 1886 to 1935 with around 160,000 produced. The particular gun featured in this presentation has a 26 inch octagon barrel that carries a standard buckhorn style rear sight and a German silver front sight. Chambered in 38-56 Winchester, it features a tubular magazine that holds nine rounds.

There was an old timer who had one in .40-82 and said it was hell on wheels on deer. Always wanted an 1886.
Wish I had big money like Larry so I could buy a lot of old antique firearms too.
My favorite lever-action rifle. It's not even old. It's TIMELESS. Octagon barrel just seals the deal for me. Beautifully-crafted gun.

The gun that won the west is widely considered the 1873 Winchester. People say this is the most beautiful Winchester lever rifle, but I find the 1873 to be much more beautiful.

My grandfather had one of these he bought in 1918 when he was herding sheep in Montana. Had a gun dealer in the 70's talk him in to trading for a new 06.

Hi, I have this exact rifle and I love it! however I really don't know much about its history or its value. can you help? its Winchester Model 1886 45-70 lever gun. the serial # is down by the lever and is pretty worn. from what I can tell it is 6658. only 4 digits! any info or point me in the right direction would help.

Depends on the state. NY went through them all until they got to matchlocks and banned those too. Some history teacher was pulled over in NY and was arrested and charged with felony after felony for possessing an antique flintlock pistol he uses for teaching.
NJ is worse. Guy was arrested for driving through the state, pulled over and they found a spent casing lost in the depths of his car.

We are full of knowledge regarding guns and their functions styles and history thanks to our second amendment but just think for a moment if we sought after and allowed Gods word to dwell in us richly.
