As said in the video, Lawton negotiated the surrender of Geronimo the Apache. Lawton died in the Battle of San Mateo. The leader of the Philippine Revolutionary Army he faced was Gen. Licerio Geronimo. But serial number 1 . . . Wow!
SORRY TO HEARD ALSO, NAME GERONIMO ONE OF THE SOLDIER IN PHILIPPINES KILLED THE U.S. GENERAL H. LAWTON DURING AMERICAN - PHILIPPINES WAR, USING A SNIPER RIFLES R.I.P GENERAL THANKS FOR THE SERVICES.!
+James Lagnese Gatewood, serving under Lawton, serving under Miles, serving under Sheridan, serving under President Cleveland. Horn was an important scout for both Crook and his replacement, Miles. Horn even met with Goyaałé when Crook was still in charge. In most sources I could find, Gatewood is credited with finally meeting with Geronimo to arrange the meeting with Lawton, who would take him to surrender to Miles. Here's part two of our article which details the surrender: rockislandauction.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-prize-for-capturing-geronimo-part-ii.html
+Rock Island Auction Company It's been a long time, but I remember reading Horn's biography or autobiography and I seem to recall Horn being the interpreter involved in the surrender and he lived amongst them too, marrying an apache and having a son. It was a while ago that I read it though. Thanks for the info.
+James Lagnese Thank you as well. That is entirely possible about Horn. I have not read up on him enough to know one way or another. Looks like you've added a book to my summer reading list.
+Rock Island Auction Company I read two books. One was the autobiography by Horn and the other was a book by Will Henry (Henry Wilson Allen) called I, Tom Horn. Both good reads.
I cringed every time I saw his bare hands touch the metal...but a piece like this is well looked after, so a few salty, sweaty hand prints won't stick around for long...we can hope.
so it sold for 1.2 billion dollars? or 1.226.000 dollars? anyways its a great piece of firearms history, and i am not surprised it sold for the heavy hammer price as it did.
You imagine Gen.Lawton is credited with a great feat, now imagine the Indians with no national backing and only minimal resources holding on for so long. Interesting that the rifle has no relationship with the Warrior Geronimo. I hope other Medal of Honor recipients can sell their stuff for much bucks while they are still alive
Exterminated the apaches but when assigned in the Philippines, sniped by Filipino revolutionary... Medal of Honor killing those original in the land hehehe! That bad!.. General Geronimo(Same name of Geronimo of Apache) in the Philippines lead assassination of Henry Lawton.
More love for self-adulation than for historic firearms, eh? All I hear is ... _'We, the number One...'_ , accompanied by histrionic, tacky music.... well, that's a hard-earned thumbs down.

Pure bullshit! He got the credit for something he never done! Sitting on his ass giveing orders to real men like gatewood, The great Tom Horn and micky Free! Someone paid a lot of money for pure bullshit!
Historical documents state that Lawton was with his men on the chase. This is not to say that Gatewood and his scouts (said to include Horn) were not critical to locating the Apache and obtaining their surrender. I believe that history smiles on Lawton for his oversight of the operation after the "less-than-satisfactory" results of George Crook. www.rockislandauction.com/blog/the-prize-for-capturing-geronimo-part-ii/

VIVA WINCHESTER 1886!

Things we don't let Ian McCollum play with.mov
C.B. Gatewood captured Geronimo. Well, he convinced him to surrender. Lawton took the credit and Gatewood was screwed over by the Army.
Yes! This is SO frustrating! Gatewood did the heavy lifting, and yet Lawton gets the credit. So wrong!
FYI There is no such medal as the Congressional Medal of Honor, it is simply, the Medal of Honor.

THE SECURITY DEVICES SHOWN ON THE DOORS IN THIS VIDEO CAN BE DEFENDED, I AM SURPRISED THE USER HAS NOT UPDATED THESE SECURITY DEVICES!
And here I thought Tom Horn got Goyaałé to come in from the cold. So it goes. The boss gets all the credit.

$1.2 million. :)
FYI.. Geronimo was never considered an Apache Chief... the last hereditary Chiracauhan Chief was Naiche, son of Cochise..
Was it Lawton or Miles who lied to Goyatholay? Let’s not forget the brave men of the Wounded Knee engagement in which 25 Medals of Honor were awarded.
Well after reading the book " Empire of the summer moon " i would say it was probably General Miles !
Wonder why i wasnt consulted??
What?
