Amazing I to remember the 90s like it was yesterday .
I was 11 or 12 I remember when super Nintendo came out and F zero was the best to come out on it .
That an Firefox was a good one and I remember this one epic fantasy game called legend of mana and another one called legend of Gaia.
Another good one that got everyone buzzing that I played was chrono trigger .
      Good memories .
I'm in my 40's now and amazed how far games have gone .
One thing I do miss are arcades .
That was the thing to do back then kick back with friends and meet new ones in the arcade .
I got so upset they got rid of bears, which was a kick ass arcade center.
Would trade real money for bear tokens in order to play the arcades .

I'll be devastated if this concept doesn't return for any future entries, or at least followed up with X 99. It's how I always imagined F-Zero to be, and I'll take this over an offline GC port anyday. Patch in some more maps and add scanline filtering options and it's perfect.

I still don´t get it that F-Zero is not popular in Japan. Saleswise F-Zero was not a good series in Japan. In my opinion, F-Zero is the King of all Future Highspeed Racers. It had titles that are not really enjoyable, but the N64 and Gamecube Versions and for sure the SNES Version are Legends.

You took me down memory lane with this one.. I never got the chance to own a Super Nintendo as a kid but I remember quite well the day my older cousin and his mother walked into my Great-Grandmother's his Grandmother's house with the Super Nintendo Box with the 2 Controllers in it and Super Mario World late 1992 early 1993.. His mother also bought Street Fighter 2: World Warriors separately and I remember when my cousin plugged it up, it was like another world I was seeing.. It's that joy that only you can get just from seeing some thing of amazement.. I literally lost all sense of thought forgetting I had to go home but my eyes was so glued to the screen that I couldn't fathom on how Super Mario World looked so futuristic from Super Mario Bros. 3.. It was a beautiful time in gaming growing up as a kid.. I love the hell out of my adult life cause I can buy all the old consoles that I always wanted, the consoles I couldn't afford to get back then typically because I was poor as a kid in Alabama so like any kid in my shoes we made lists and kept them until we became adults on things we wanted as kids and now will be able to try them as adults.. The NES made me a Gamer but the Super Nintendo made me fall in love with gaming.. 👍🏿♥️🔥🔥🔥

When I was almost 12, I got my first console ever, a Game Boy Color, after a lot of crying! 😂 it was around the Pokémon era here in Portugal (April 2000), so Gbc was a big thing at the time for young kids lol...

First memories of F-Zero. I remember I was really bored in a retro game store and I saw a guy play it. He was trying to beat the game with the time he had left before going back to work. I was instantly hooked. The game looked like Mario Kart, but faster, and with a console. Not like Mario Kart DS which was on a handheld. When he beat it, he asked if I was interested in playing and of course, I tried. Sure I didn't do well since I didn't know the controls and what to do but I learned and processed it. I started drawing the characters and my own for F-Zero to better understand the F-Zero fandom.
Eventually by 2022, my friends and family got me my SNES for my birthday and it was the day I decided to get F-Zero from the same retro game store. I purchased it with Street Fighter 2, and Mario World and remembered the time I played it at the same store. I've yet to beat F-Zero but I must complete it sometime.

    Thanks for the share.
There are similar things when I was growing up that I would be super excited about and getting a new console was always one that got me excited. :)
I have a love of all consoles old and new because of it.
My viewers say I am a museum of old consoles after they say do you have this console and I start rattling off all the consoles I have and love the ones that have the light up in there eyes.
I remember my most excited freak out was when I got the N64 which was probably around Christmas.
We were not well off and as a kid I always knew that even asking for it I will not be disappointed about not getting it.
But yeah when I unwrapped the N64 I pretty much was flying at my parents giving lots of thanks to them.
And our family was one of the rare ones that kept the boxes for all the games and consoles for those we have boxes for as some were bought used and stuff.
F-Zero is one that we had here as well and I enjoyed the game and I am enjoying the F-Zero 99 that came out recently and wow I was surprised at the muscle memory I had with the game I picked it up and did well did not blow up once playing it since I had played it so much back in the 90s.
Final Fantsy II is a good one too I also had that I played pretty much all the Final Fantasies up to FFX.
I honestly got burned out on em I should try some of the newer ones.
I do go back to the old ones from time to time though.

Since a remake of Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door was announced at the Direct too, I figured I’d share my memories with that game because as a 2000s kid, the GameCube was my favorite console growing up.
I remember my grandma was babysitting me while I was home sick from school one day. She was trying to get me to take my cold medicine but I wouldn’t take it because it tasted nasty. Eventually, she promised me that if I took it, she’d get me whatever GameCube game I wanted.
Around this time I was always seeing Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door on store shelves and thought it looked so cool so I asked for that one and she promised she’d get it if I took the medicine. I did and then the next time she came to visit, there it was.
When I started playing I had no idea how the game worked because I had never played an RPG before so my first run through was… interesting. But as I got older, it’s a game I revisit regularly and I will never forget how I got it.
Sorry I didn’t have an F-Zero memory but I figured some of you would appreciate the story

1991 was definitely a special year for gaming. I got my Super Nintendo the day after Xmas that year, and the first game I played on it was Super Castlevania 4. Man, did that game set the tone of what became my all-time favourite console.

I feel like there was a different kind of excitement back then. More of a sense of wonder due to everything not being so connected like it is now. Things just seemed like such a bigger deal. Theres more of an experience around physical media. Going to the store, taking it home, opening it, looking at the manual. Your experience with getting blown up in F-Zero is hilarious because I remember that sound being scary and intense too 😂 Your dads excitement about new game stuff and filming your reaction to new stuff is so awesome. I came back to video game with the snes. I mean, born in 71, my console was the Vectrex, and I loved it so much, that when the economic crash occurred, Vectrex stopped production, and I was like depressed about video game. I continued to play the Vectrex for years, so much I did not see the video game reborn with the NES !!! I saw it but I was not interested, I was still playing my Vectrex.
Time passed and one day, when I saw Super mario world and f zero, I left my Vectrex on a shelf, and I never quit Nintendo.

August of 1991? Did you pick up a SNES at the Redmond, Wa Fred Meyer? Nintendo did a limited early release and Fred Meyer was one of the stores that had SNES's early. Fred Meyer is a lot like a unionized and higher end version of a Walmart Supercenter that's based in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
I can confirm the Redmond, Wa Fred Meyer had the SNES available to purchase in late August of 1991. I was at that store, stumbled into the electronics section because I was looking to buy Dragon Warrior 2, and they had them in stock with a TV playing the demo screen of SMW.
Wikipedia gets the launch date on that one wrong. Big retailers saw the SNES in early September. I remember that one well because it launched right after the 1991-1992 school year started.

Just here to say i'm new to SNES and Genesis era and i love F Zero. Grown up with nes clones, and psx, after many years i disregarded nes quickly (which only now i started to like again), and thought SNES/Genesis/TG16 would be too simple. Man what a mistake. I fell in love and F-Zero with Pilotwings in particular were the first two games which blew me away! F-Zero is proof that mode 7 racer can not only be playable but downright awesome! Track design, speed, quality sprites, awesome music, great handling. I like it waaaay more than any Wipeout. And F-Zero GP Legends on gba is so far my favourite with original as a second (but i have to try that japanese exclusive gba f-zero game which looks even more fun). And regarding rest of the generation i would say on average the quality is insane, there are much more great games on Genesis and SNES (TG16 not so much but it was 16bit only halfway) than great games on PSX or PSP. Not to mention GBA which is simmilar in terms of hardware but mixes it's capabilities with more modern aproach, and i consider it the best handheld library of all time (well at least old style of handhelds, excluding Switch). These 2D games were incredible, and good implementation of 7 mode like features gives me more pleasure than many bells and whistles of modern games. Jumps in F-Zero have some magic to them, whole Pilotwings suprises how awesome it emulates 3d with primitive tools, tilting tower in Bloodlines looks like goddamn magic! Ah what a great generation and i've only scratched it sufrace. Also the level of soundtracks from that generation is a stuff of legends!
And one more thing regarding F-Zero - it's crazy how good their first try was, this game just did not aged at all, it plays perfectly to this day, every single mechanic is fitting, every map feel like actual track (unlike bit too flat mario karts). Even though F-Zero in full 3d on n64 and GC is great it doesn't take away anything from mode 7 versions. Which is a crazy feat to pull of especially considering it was a launch title.

At this time I had a GameBoy, a SEGA Master System and the SEGA Genesis was coming. I followed the SEGA-path, but I remember, how we borrowed a SNES in 1992 or something and we played F-Zero and Street Fighter. I remember, how my friend played F-Zero and his car exploaded and he was like "WOAH !!", because we played that on a very big TV back then. In Street Fighter I used mostly Guile and he used Ken, and I always ducked and used the upwards-punch to him, when he tried to jump on me, which made him really mad, haha. In 1993/1994 there came Street Fighter II SCE on SEGA Genesis and I played it so often, I could perform all moves perfectly. In like 1995 a bunch of friends played at my house and I kicked them all easily. In 1995 or something, the female friend of my sister had a SNES and we went over there and we watched "True Lies" and "Terminator 2" when we didnt play "Batman Returns" or "Donkey Kong" and "Super Mario" on her SNES. ........ These memories are priceless.
